Was the roman imperial cult anything more than empty propaganda?
Yeah I think there was quite a big questline in morrowind.
It's a shame none of the later games had quite the level of depth.
It was propaganda, but it wasn't empty.
>>993382
Nope.
You factor in Roman Ancestor Worship and its not. Your dead Emperor automatically becomes a fucking God of your state.
Ancestor worshipping states are big on deifying their dead Emperors. Parallel Rome to similar trends in Imperial China and it makes sense.
How did the sovereign citizen movement get started? Why has it persisted so long and doesn't seem to be affected by it's 0% track record in court? Have there been any scholarly works on the phenomenon?
Its literally magical-thinking applied to the concept of law
No seriously, these people think if you do certain rituals and write down certain sigils and runes in red ink it will absolve you of the law because reasons
Your real question should be why does magical-thinking seem to be so omnipresent in human societies?
>>992949
Don't forget the magic incantations:
"Are you detaining me or am I free to go?"
"Am I being detained?"
"Am I free to go?"

It's people thinking the government has become too big and want to unilaterally withdraw their consent to be governed.
How did cavemen clip their toenails and shave their beards?
if they bothered at all they probably bit their toenails off.
Don't know about the beards or when scissors or razors came about. I doubt they went for the clean shaven look but beard length might need trimming after a while
>>992861
How do you bite your own toenails off? Go ahead try.
Cavemen most likely took turns biting each other's toenails off.
Toenails sort of self-manage when you're barefoot and out in the wilderness, at least with the small ones. For the big toenails, a rock with a small chipped edge is good for scraping the sides and preventing hangnails.

What can science tell us about morality?
>>991992
Morality is relative. Moral is just a electrical impuls which goes through the neurons in you brain. We are just atoms moving through time and space.
The universe doesn't give a fuck if you have killed someone. You just moved atoms.
Science is an expression of our ability to rationalize.
Our ability to rationalize is limited by the fact that we are simply monkeys able to do math.
imagine this metaphor: science is all about studying the skeleton. Your are asking "What can the skeleton tell us about the skin?" It can tell us some things, but you need a whole different way to study the skin.
if you consider philosophy and metaphysics and theology sciences, then this question is pointless. These are fields of logic and scholarly pursuits, but you can't measure most topics in these fields. you can only discuss them.

This.
A live body and a dead body contain the same number of particles. Structurally, there’s no discernible difference. Life and death are unquantifiable abstracts. Why should I be concerned?
June 26, 1944. What if this was the situation on the Eastern Front, and the Western Front happened historically up to D-Day? Can Germany win the war from this position?
Note: Moscow and Stalingrad are both fairly securely in German hands. Finland was lost to the Soviets.
No. The krauts are weak down near stalingrad where they can actually exploit a breakthrough and their one local superiority is up north where they'll run smack into fortress leningrad and those miserable forests. Maybe if they withdrew a few and tried to cut off that bulge in the center they'd do some damage (with a clip!!!!), but assuming the soviets have a stacked reinforcement table those krauts are probably done

pic related. I just hope those guys up north aren't all leg infantry

Define postmodernism.
A movement that came after modernism.
It comes after modernism.
everything after modernism but before post-postmodernism
ITT: Takeda cavalry and Winged Husars clash on the battlefield.

hussars likely, but it depends on the commanders.
Mamluks win.
Best shock cavalry ever on best horses with best weapons and armors with enough firepower to repel cavalry charges who could broke Swedish pike and musket formations crush Turks Janissaries Cossacs and Moskals vs some Gok cavalry who fight another gooks.
I wonder.

Okay faggots, can we get a metaphysics thread going?
I really wanna understand how reality works. And don't give me those pleb tier Plato cave or Kantian thing-in-itself bullshit. Where do I start with advanced metaphysics? Give me some theories that'll fundamentally change my world view.
>>989143
do you understand physics already?
Read the Timaeus
Metaphysics is an effort to salvage Platonic ideals in almost every case
>>989150
Well nobody truly understands physics. But I know something about QM and GR, if that's your question.

Art threads of the past helped me discover a lot of new art and artists.
This is one of my favourites that I discovered from a previous thread featuring the holy virgin mary
Looks nice
Who is the worst ruler in history? It can mean the most incompetent, or cruel, or whatever else makes a ruler terrible.
self-described nationalist here
>lets kill off one of the most financially successful and prevalent groups in our soceity
>while we're at it lets invade all of western europe
>and while we do that, I think the USSR could be easily invaded
>and while we're doing that, I'll go extremely paranoid and totally fuck with my generals and ruin military operations

All leaders after the 1800s.
Hitler
Desired German dominance over the European/North African/Middle Eastern region, but totally wouldn't've minded the absolute destruction of Germany as long as the stronger race (Russians) triumphed. He fought the war less as a general or politician, and more like an ideologue. His policy in Eastern Europe was based on pseudo-scientific theories of race, and on a worse understanding of Evolution than most Americans get from their school system.
He halted stepping up the pressure during the Bombing of Britain to reserve a portion of the airforce to defend Berlin from counter-attacks, entirely because he promised the German people "not one bomb would fall on Berlin" during the war. When he lost interest in the stalemate he turned towards Russia because the final showdown with Jewish-Bolshevism had to happen in his lifetime.
The German high command was routinely in chaos as Hitler replaced any resemblance of organized command with letting his subordinates fight for his favor, theoretically allowing the strongest and best to triumph. Generals were never secured in their assignments, since they'd be replaced if they didn't produce immediate successes on the battlefields.
And don't forget his dismissal of the idea of building German naval power before the war. Britain was the only serious challenger on the European seas, and there's no way two Anglo-Saxon nations would ever fight each other.
He was lazy and neurotic, seized power more through bluff than brawn, thin-skinned and unable to take serious criticism, he conquered a continent that hadn't still fully recovered from the prior war.
Also, what is your opinion on "recolored" photos? Seems a lot of people hate them.

I don't know what it's like in other countries but here in the UK the only thing people think about his is "lel rekt", not that he's evil or anything.
Living outside Europe, I never learnt about him in detail. He just seemed to have tried to conquer Europe because it was there.

Mongolia used to be really sparsely inhabited in Middle Ages. How did they gather such a huge and powerful army that other countries had nothing against?
It helps when the whole country can just moves the fuck out and attacks you.
>>991516
Was it really sparsely populated? What was Mongolia's population?
It was mostly Turkic steppe folk that did most of the fighting.
