Why are myths about Africans never having any civilization, only living in mud huts, and not using their resources, and never had metal working still spread today? Can people not open a history book? Also Africa thread

People usually say it about Bantus

Why do idiots love this so much? It has merits, but so does any religion/philosophy.
>>988011
Because it's atheist friendly.
is there a darker side to buddhism? any branch of it that advocated violence, or had otherwise crazy beliefs? from what I know, it was mostly an ok religion. regardless if you agree with their teachings or not, they at least usually left people alone.
>>988043
This, pretty much. It allows you to have some sort of religion or meaning in your life besides exploitative capitalist consumption without actually believing into anything that is too unrealistic.
I don't know much about Korean history, but I'm interested in learning more. Know anything?
Ancient Korea achieved nothing of note. It was a weak vassal state.

>Teacher talking about the Crimean War

>I bring up that the photo was from Waterloo, Not the Crimean War

Did you guys have any shit tier teachers?
>>983767
All history teachers were top tier Bro's. Literally all of them.
I can't recall anything egregious. I used to correct/add to what my Freshman teacher said to to my crush and future regret.
I should've been better Caitlin.

I remember signing up for a private tutor from a segue school after my AP European history teacher knew nothing about the Peloponnesian War.
What do atheists think of Jesus? I can understand why you might hate His followers, lots of terrible things were done in His name, but, does anyone dislike the actual dude?
>>980675
Are you asking from a historical perspective or a theological perspective? Because there is a difference.
The theists on this board have already rejected the historical Jesus.
>>980675
I'm not atheist, I'm nominally Jewish, so my perspective might be different.
I haven't really read the Gospels or anything, so I'm not a Jesus expert. I don't have a strong opinion on him either way. There are a few parts of his teachings that I like, though. I feel like a lot of the things that he says about the Old Law make a lot of sense.
I'm a lot less sure about the "being literally god" parts.
There's essentially nothing known about the historical Jesus
The History Buffs intro changed Cleopatra's skin color from black to white in the latest video. How does this make you feel, /his/?
Literally who?

Rommel

You might want to inb4 Patton as well, he gets similar treatment, and this is coming from someone who legitimately does believe Rommel was a bad general.

I'm reading the KJV of Genesis and am amazed by how amoral most of the characters are, including God. The only other book that comes to mind as I read it is The Odyssey. Most of the characters seem to be rewarded for being sly and clever rather than being good. Cain gets his mark, but anyone who kills him is cursed. Abraham deceives Pharaoh and Jacob deceives Esau. Are there any "good guys" in Genesis? The book seems mostly to be about self-preservation rather than good vs. evil. Am I reading Genesis the wrong way by looking for some sort of moral teaching in it?

Yes, you are reading it wrong.

Today is the 104th anniversary of the Titanic hitting the iceberg.
The 'Titanic: Honor and Glory' team put together a real-time animation of the ship sinking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs9w5bgtJC8 (which people are already quibbling)
Any favorite Titanic books? Myths you hate? Best/worst film depictions? Let's talk Titanic

I don't remember that anyone said the collapsible fell right on top of Harold Bride? He was washed off deck while holding onto it and he ended up underneath it for a bit but I have never heard it fell on him.

>tfw Titanic Honor and Glory will never get finished because the team behind it refuses to change they way the market the game and won't take common sense advice on how to get properly funded
Have you read "English: The Language of the Vikings" by Emonds and Faarlund?
They argue that English should be considered North Germanic (like Scandinavian languages) as during Danelaw the original Anglo-Saxon language fell out of use and in fact a dialect of Norse, scented with Anglo-Saxon vocabulary, became the lingua franca of Britain, later underwent the same systematic changes as North Germanic languages and doesn't resemble West Germanic at the systematic level. Modern English should be considered North Germanic.
It's kind of big. The most common theory states that English is basically Anglo-Saxon enriched by Nordics, meanwhile these two scholars claim that it's basically Nordic with Anglo-Saxon aftertaste.
The whole book is available free of charge here:

I want to say this is ridiculous, but Joseph Emonds is a legitimate generative syntactician
If anything English should be considered Romance.

Destroyed Christianity. Protestantism has become a mix of hippie cucks and megachurch hillbillies, while Catholicism has had the shittiest pope since Borgia.
