Why Marxist-Leninist leaders in Eastern Europe hated?

Was it because they were socialist or was it because they were representatives of the oppressive Soviet empire?

the latter

I mean there was probably division between left and right in those countries but the whole "being Russia's bitch" thing sort of soured the whole marxist thing for everyone.

Homosexuality is a decadent bourgeois disease, Soviet men will International-kiss out of brotherly love and camaraderie.

Who's the earliest serial killer we know of?

Let's define a serial killer as someone who kills multiple people for self gratification. So no assassins or bandits

Why did the Russians replace a neglecting father (The czar) with an abusive one (Stalin)? Because of the West? But again, communism is a Western ideology.

And why is this pattern repeating itself? They either go full dictatorship or full chaos with nothing in between. They either embrace the West and even glorify it or hate it and isolate themselves. They either submissively bear the yoke of the government with extreme humility and only when they are literally starving they rebel with extreme fury and violence.

What are the causes of this? Is it paternalism? Is something in the Russian DNA making them more gullible and vulnerable to exploitation? The effects of thousand years of autocracy? Or is it the opposite: Extreme rebelliousness which can only be put down with force.

As long as these questions aren't answered there won't be peace. A cold war or a cold peace at best.

The British and Germans funded a revolution to get their old enemy, the Russian Monarchy, out of the picture. See: The Great Game. Imagine what Britain could do without Russia fucking around.

Then Hitler came along and the US needed to check German expansion so they propped up the Soviet Union. Dumb Russians keep Germany occupied on the East (The work to feed, supply, arm, and equip the Soviet Union profited US industries anyways), while America and Friends whack at them from the west.

After WWII, the Soviet Union had received enough aid and gobbled up enough territory that it could more or less stand on it's own two feet, and by then it was too late for anyone in Europe to stop them.

Russians had very little to do with it. Foreign funding and geopolitics did.

Wall Street funded the Bolsheviks.
>>
>>1103580

They lost everything. In the 50s and 60s socialism was extremely popular, Russia had nukes and a ton of allies including China. If they played their cards right, they could be a prosperous superpower.

De-stalinization was one mistake. Not providing consumer goods another. It's ridiculous and hypocritical. "Stalin was a dick for being so harsh, but you still can't have toilet paper." It doensn't make any sense.

A friend of mine tells me crash course is quite ok on having a first view about things in history.
Myself having read history quite often simplistic history books(imagine Chronicle of the World by Asimov,a lot of wikipedia and highschool books) thought i had an understanding in general.
after watching 5-6 videos i found out at least one revisionistic point in every subject.
Are there others that agree these courses are way off in history opinions or is it me the man who denies to hear enything different

How true is this?

Monroe doctrine made Latin America Usa's bitch, so territorial expansion and imperial expansion are two different things.
>>
Essentially true on the numbers, questionably true on the motives.

>Americans resisted expansion for two major reasons... [imperialism seemed at odds with republican principles and integration of other peoples seemed like too much work]

This doesn't ring true. Americans had no complaints about the Gadsden purchase or the Mexican-American war. Anti-imperialism wasn't somehow fundamentally a part of America's early psyche. Rather, there were economic motives (or the lack thereof) that prevented the need for extensive imperialism like in the Old World. The US in the time of Manifest Destiny had what amounts to infinite land. Millions and millions of acres - more land than it had people to farm, rather than the reverse as was the problem in most other industrializing countries. What imperialism it exercised, therefore, was not going to be for the purpose of extracting resources (it had plenty of resources already) but to extract capital and manpower.

Does anyone ever read about the myriad of Crusades in the Medieval ages and feel annoyed at the colossal failures of the Western Europeans? They simply appear - in retrospect - to have been completely incompetent and incapable. As the Eastern Roman Emperor Leo the Wise wrote in his 9th century Tactica (a military manual), the Franks (Western Europeans) fought with "no discipline", maintained "little to no order in battle", rarely performed reconnaissance, often failed to fortify their camps, and had primitive logistics which often meant that extended campaigns would kill them off. Funnily enough, the author and Eastern Roman general Nikephoros Ouranos reiterated the same thing concerning the Franks when he wrote his own manual in the 11th century.

There are sporadic successes such as those in the First Crusade and the Baron's Crusade that can be attributed to more the products of luck and coincidence and individual efforts than actual strategics or planning.

The Second Crusade, the Third Crusade (Jerusalem was not retaken), the Fourth Crusade, the Fifth, the Seventh, and the complete embarrassments which were the Eight, the Barbary Crusade, Battle of Nicopolis, and the Varnan Crusade. In many instances, the Crusaders literally marched unprepared into desert environments (to which they were not accustomed) thinking some magical aid from either the Eastern Romans or God would arrive to save them, rather than undertake any proper logistics or planning before starting the campaign.

Contrast with the territorial gains made by both the Ottomans into Europe and those in the Komnenian Restoration by the Eastern Romans with the relatively tiny pieces of land the Crusaders were able to snatch for some time.

Werent the crusades filled with peasants trying to appease the pope and his hard on for Jerusalem? That would explain the lack of organization.
>>
>Does anyone ever read about the myriad of Crusades in the Medieval ages and feel annoyed at the colossal failures of the Western Europeans?

No. What the first crusades achiever were impressive, even if they did not achieve anything really (besides from the first). You're sending an army to foreign lands without any good supply routes or domestic support. You're essentially sending an army in and saying good luck.

>here are sporadic successes such as those in the First Crusade and the Baron's Crusade that can be attributed to more the products of luck and coincidence

Exactly.

>Contrast with the territorial gains made by both the Ottomans into Europe

Ottomans expanded continuously on land, with their main power base relatively close to where they expanded to. They could always send reinforcements, supplies, new armies etc easily.

>Komnenian Restoration

Same thing.

What would be the effects on the 20th century be if the Central Powers won the first world war and would the they be able too stay together and maybe form a long standing union and how would the world generally be? Any opinions should be backed by reasoning or some kind of proof
7 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1103087
That really depends at what point did the central powers won? Did the germans successfully invade belgium, knocking out france and then turned around and knocked russia out? Did the german plan of sinking enough cargo to make the british surrender worked and the triple entente surrendered? Did arabs rebel against the ottoman rule? All of these answers would lead to different outcomes.
>>
I really can't see how Austria-Hungary and the Ottomans could have lasted much longer. Germany would be sinking a shitton of cash into trying to keep them together.
>>
>>1103087

In reality it would have been better for everyone including the allies. Germany wouldn't have gone batshit under Hitler.

Is there really any substantial justification against suicide? What if we just went around labeling all women seeking an abortion mentally ill and discouraging them from having one? If someone wants to kill themselves there is basically null justification for anyone else to get involved or interfere with that decision. Maybe the one exception is if the person aiming to commit suicide has dependents but otherwise there is no cause for anyone to stop someone from killing themselves. In fact its morally egregious to do so, especially when it means resuscitating someone to the state of a vegetable or invalid.

No
>>
>>1102927
Committing suicide in a war to kill enemy forces when you have no escape, and know capture is going to be WWII Japs tier is just.
>>
>>1102940
personally I don't subscribe to the justifications for abortion based on a women's right to do what she wants with her body but you can't just arbitrarily draw the "muh body" argument line when suicide enters into the picture. There is probably a lot more justification to commit suicide than to enact a late term abortion.

You should look up the songs/ballads of Thibaut of Champgne. He was a crusader who upon returning to Europe, dedicated himself to writing song and poetry to be performed with the accompaniment of music. He's pretty good, and most of his works are up on YouTube, and the interpretations are pretty faithful to how they would have been performed (or so I've heard).
