Since 1974 is well outside the 25 year rule, can we have a thread about the history of RPGs and role playing in general?
My question is: while D&D was the first to popularize role playing with dice and paper, are there any instances further back in history of people roleplaying or engaging in a similar game?
>>3221961
How broad do define the term: role playing? Chess was used to simulate battle for aspiring generals. Monopoly gave users the role of corporate tycoons in order to teach the woes of capitalism.

>are there any instances further back in history of people roleplaying
There were these jews saying shit about a magical zombie jew who rose from the dead, and people roleplayed a lot around this figure, they keep playing the game these days.
So do we have any accurate depiction of how indian buddhist monks dressed and looked?
While they maybe dressed similar to modern Sri Lankan buddhists, tibetan depiction of Vajrayana (ie latest stages) monks are no different from wandering yogis. Padmasambhava, Tilopa, Naropa, etc have long hair, moustaches and the later two barely some pants like average hindu saddhus instead of long robes. Yet tibetan lamas have the same buzzcut+orange clothes style as other buddhist schools
Does any East Asian garment reflect more accurately indian monks robes than Sri Lankan ones?

King Solomon. Admire him? Despise him? Neutral. Do you think he existed, was truly the wisest man who ever lived, or his empire was as grand as described.
>>3221531
How do we know that Soloman even existed?
>>3221531
He was a Muslim.

>His writings displayed his hatred of disorder, of romanticism, liberalism, democracy, internationalism, the French Revolution, and especially, his hatred of Germany.
Is he /ourguy/?

What's wrong with liberalism?
>>3221509
It's a German invention

I thought it was an Anglo invention.
Now that the dust has settled, can we agree Saigo did nothing wrong?
What are good documentaries about Carthage?
New Dan Carlin episode was found on libsyn before it was released.

I'm not fucking clicking that OP
*falsifies your theory*
Where did the meme of 'PACT will overrun NATO with numbers' come from?
PACT never outnumbered NATO unless you somehow fit China in there and in fact were probably outnumbered 2-1 themselves.
Is it just part of the propaganda where 'the good guys are always outnumbered'?

From the deployment of active forces in Central Europe, not what people could conceivably raise if went to a war economy and fully mobilized.
>>3221045
What?
>>3221262
This chart should probably not count Romania because the Romanian People's Army after 1967 was postured as much to block a Soviet advance on Bucharest as it was to support PACT on the offensive. Bulgaria was also considered almost totally militarily irrelevant.
Still, by any metric the Soviets had local force superiority numerically and, until the 1980s, in terms of combat power overall. Where did you get 2-1 from, OP?
Was he the GOAT?
No he's a human
Anyone?
Don't know what the fuck this is but it's at least 70 years old.
I asked a lot of knowledgeable people, no one knew what it is except for a few of the markings(Saturn and Neptune).

Where did you find it (which country/city)?
>>3222998
I actually found it amongst my dad's things when he passed away. I'm in Croatia and the coin was found hidden behind one of his pictures.
I actually made this thread accidentally but it would be cool if I found out.
How do you think the rest of europe would react if vlad actually had supernatural powers and used them to beat back the turks?
Would anyone support him?
Or would they just try to backstab him?

Let's talk about *abooism and how common it is as a social phenomenon. Everyone knows there are various preoccupations with Orientalism in the West with Japanese culture being most appreciated. But how common are the lesser more obscure kinds? Do you think there is a guy in Japan preoccupied with Persian history? Are there dudes in Africa who are ardent slavophiles? Is there a man in central Tajikistan right now who can not stop reading about the empire of Brazil? What are your personal *abooisms that are incongruent with your personal background (besides Japanese culture lmao ~_~)
Discuss.
