So a while back, I was talking with my white friends and somehow I brought up the Falklands war cause I deemed it relevant.
I was surprised when absolutely none of them knew what the fuck I was talking about.
I am a Mexican immigrant, and knew about the conflict thanks to watching latin american natgeo back when I still went to school there, and pretty much, any read person in Mexico my age an older knew that the conflict had at least happened.
Me and my friends were all 21, and it got me thinking about the fact that people around this age, and older, probably don't know about a lot conflicts that occurred as recent as 40 years ago, like say the Sino-Vietnamese War.
What do you think /his/, was it just my friends being dumb, or is it linked to lack of foreign cultural and political knowledge by college educated americans? similar to what happened during the early days of the cold war
>>1190133
most Americans haven't heard of the Falklands war. I only found out partly because I was always interested in history and partly because I'm a BR and it's a great way to piss off Argentinians
this isn't even exclusive to America, most Anglophone countries are completely disinterested in history that doesn't directly involve them somehow and don't bother to teach it or learn it unless they're nerds. the only reason America stands out in this regard is because America is a relatively young country with a relatively short history. Brits are more educated, but that's only because they have a longer history than America and because much of European history is fundamentally intertwined with Britain - the vast majority of Brits couldn't tell you a single thing about the Franco-Prussian war, for example.
Australians are by far the worst though, for obvious reasons
>>1190208
what do you mean?
>>1190133
They don't teach it in school so you'd never know it unless you researched it yourself. Very few people research much of anything themselves.
I know lots of people whose entire knowledge of world war 1 is that it came before world war 2.
One of the biggest struggles I have with fully commiting to Christianity is not with the idea of relativism. The fact that two people who fully believe in Christianity can come to radically different conclusions about their faith, and there is no clear-cut way to discern who is in the right and who is the wrong.
Many Christians will harp around the fact that Christianity provides 'objective morality', however people's views on the Christian doctrines change as societal laws and culture change.
There is no doubt that the early Christians believed in their faith way differently than the Christians of today do, and because of this, I don't really know how to view things. Does Christianity just end up becoming a coping mechanism to circlejerk over what we think is, or should be, 'objectively' right?
Roman Catholicism is early Christianity
>B-But every denomination claims that
We actually have writings by early Christians and ecclesiastical documents that demonstrate what early Christianity was like so it's not hard to show that Orange road Baptist Convention founded in the late 19th century isn't the same church that people like Augustine or Origen were part of

>Many Christians will harp around the fact that Christianity provides 'objective morality', however people's views on the Christian doctrines change as societal laws and culture change.
This is not a problem at all if you're an actual Christian.
Pro-tip: A lot of "christians" are influenced by and actually worship demons.

>A lot of "christians" are influenced by and actually worship demons.
I can smell the bullshit from here, but in the end fake gods and fake demons aren't very different.
Who used horse archers before? Assyrians or Persians?
>>1189907
Before who?
>>1189920
Did assyrians use horse archers before persians or persians used them before?
>>1189907
The blonde barbarians from the north who terrorized them.
Once again, aryans invented everything
Let's talk about Gnosticism lads.
You donĀ“t talk about it
It talks about us.
Look for what seems out of place
What does /his/ think of Gnosticism?
malarkey, like all religion
>>1189629
Very interesting.
>>1189629
Seems deeply interesting on the surface but is actually shallow garbage upon closer examination.
How did the Khmer Empire, the most powerful nation in SEA with the largest urban centre in the world for the time at Angkor become the modern, impoverished Cambodia?
They collapsed Maya style and never recovered.
>>1189599
Didn't they suffer a thai barbarian invasion from the north?
is it true there were snake people?
I've seen this series recommended for self study on here and /lit/. Anyone have any personal experience learning Latin or Greek?
Just started LIngua Latina seems ok so far.
Rec'd only if you know your grammatical concepts.

Patrician tier
>>1189606
>>1189622
Pleb tier.
Learn to Read latin is extremely comprehensive to the point of sometimes being meaningless. You don't need to learn rhotacism or 1000 different datives or how old latin caused such and such irregularities in verb-noun forms. But it is very comprehensive. The vocab, the excersizes, the reading. You REALLY learn latin. If you follow the book, the authors basically hammer it into your brain.
I think you should use both, use a pleb-easy tier book first, after few units move to the first unit in learn to read latin to really hammer it down.
So /his/, what was the mortality rate for tankers in the Second World War? How difficult was the tank academy? How difficult was it to be accepted into the tank academy?
>>1189555
>what was the mortality rate for tankers in the Second World War?
The general rule of thumb was 1 KIA and 1-2WIA per tank knocked out.
> How difficult was the tank academy?
More difficult than infantry school as all crew members are cross trained into other roles and they had to do most of their own maintenance.
>How difficult was it to be accepted into the tank academy?
For US, not hard. For slavs, be a manlet. Not sure for Germans but they always had a shortage of tanks to crew members.
Can anyone recommend any good books on the life of tankers, particularly German ones.

What does /his/ think of Evidentialism i.e. the philosophy that you should have evidence for your beliefs and reasoning.
Are there any good arguments for anti-evidentialism?
Lol do you mean logical positivism?
It's dog shit, bourgeois epistemology
>>1189460
>Are there any good arguments for anti-evidentialism?
Does self-evidence counts as evidence?
>>1189585
No, he clearly said evidentialism, you cretin.
Many philosophical debates can be boiled down to the basic conflict between common human interest from a societal stand point and the often times selfish biological nature of human beings. Sub-conscious behavior obviously heavily influences conscious behavior. But another question we arise at is how much of our sub conscious behavior is socially conditioned vs biological. Of course even those to things are related to each other as being socially conditioned to partake in certain behaviors is ultimately the result of our Evolution as human beings.
Please help me understand 4chan
>>1189402
You mean "unconscious", not "subconscious". Subconscious processes occur unconsciously, but not all unconscious processes are subconscious.
Anyway, it seems that you need to acquaint yourself with the basics of philosophy, so read, instead of starting inane threads that only serve to evince your ignorance and lack of insight.
>>1189402
everything is a simulation, you're not even talking to real people
>>1189421
yeah basically this
Can we get a Swiss History thread going?
Would really like to hear what you think about Switzerland.
They ahve no excuse for not joining Germany DESU.

Wanna know about badass factors tied to the cossacks. What did they do when they weren't busy kicking ass or raiding? How was life in their community? Did they have leaders/kings? Were they as fiercly loyal to Russia as they say and why? And is Cossack just being of their blood being Russian or Ukranian or is it more of a lifestyle and philosophy?
Throw in random fun facts about the lot aswell if you fancy.
they got fucked pretty hard and don't exist anymore
pretty badass lmao
>>1189055
>Kicked some major ass themselves
>still exist though
Try again, you failed to deliver answers.
>>1189067
Not the guy you replied to but they aren't very numerous nor do they have their own country so I wouldn't really call them badass.
