To quit
Trying to write a fantasy book. Not to bore you with the details, but how far would society have been able to progress with no or VERY limited access to iron? Would we not start seeing the strain until industrialization and would be able to make due with inferior bronze up until the middle ages, or would access to only bronze at best make it nearly impossible to even progress to where we were in the middle ages?
>>1210450
I don't know the answer to your quesiton, but I've been writing fantasy novels too, and in my studies I found that Inuit (if I recall) tribes were able to make rudimentary iron tools without mining, from meteorite iron.
We'd actually be more advanced
Bronze production required extensive trade routes, and it's a stronger material than iron
Only downside is the lack of weapons which can be mass produced
>>1210477
>bronze is stronger than iron
Why is there so much human suffering?
Is there a God?
If nothing lasts, why am I bothering to make films, or do anything for that matter?

We enjoy your films. Particularly the early, funny ones.

So far I've got the simple pleasure of food + enjoyment of movies/TV + masturbation, but that's about it, and it's not enough anymore.

What's up with this book? Is it basically a forgery?
It's a collection of Nietzsche's notes stitched together and published posthumously.
You could say it's "not canon", though it is studied, kind of like On Truth and Lies in a Non-Moral Sense.
No one considers it a forgery, it's in Nietzsche's handwriting. Part was forged, but that isn't published with it, that was only in the Naziboo editions. The edition in the OP is strictly Nietzsche, no forgery.
>>1210212
It's not only "canon", it's crucial to understanding Nietzsche. 99% of misconceptions about Nietzsche are due to not having read The Will to Power. They are not just diary entries, they were notes specifically for a work with that title that Nietzsche planned to publish, meant to be his magnum opus `
>>1210212
Basically this. It was edited by Nietzsche's sister, who was a huge nazi supporter. It's basically all the parts of Nietzsche's thought that might be misconstrued to support Nazi ideology out of context stripped of that context and put together.

How the hell did our mastery of fire happen, what convinced multiple people all over the planet to look at sticks and say to themselves, "I better rub that shit together pretty fucking fast."?

Autism? I can see all the schizos becoming shamans while the spherglords are busy playing with objects until one accidentally makes fire and the chads steal his technology

That's my point though, you don't "accidentally" make fire, it's an involved, arduous process

It was tinkering yeah, not some kind of rationalization, at least that's what I assume
Even some modern inventions arose out of toying and tinkering around
Nassim Taleb claims this how most inventions arise, or at least some of the inventions thought of as arising out of knowledge arose out of random tinkering

Who says that. I've never seen Jews proudly declare their heritage in another religion.
>>1209605
I don't think I'd academically run with "Jews were Zoroastrianists". I can go with the argument the Jewish faith was influenced by Zoroastrian conjecture, but I can also explain that away with the concept God intended for this influence because He anointed his assigned deliverer, Cyrus (Isaiah 45). In the wider scope, yeh, many judeo christian people would consider that heresy, but it's not the worst contention to have.

Holy because the Emperor was crowned by the Pope.
Roman because it was created to be the sole sucessor of the Roman Empire.
Empire because it had an emperor, it was a dominion that collected taxes and was, to certain degree, an unit.
>>1209573
>Holy because the Emperor was crowned by the Pope.
Pope had the exclusive authority to crown all people, that doesn't mean every single kingdom was "holy".
>Roman because it was created to be the sole sucessor of the Roman Empire.
With ERE still firmly in place. On the lands Romans considered absolutely barbaric.
>Empire because it had an emperor, it was a dominion that collected taxes and was, to certain degree, an unit.
Being a unit and collecting taxes doesn't make anything an empire, and claiming it's an empire because it calls itself an empire is quite ironic, don't you think?
fuck, that be a hairstyle?
This is gonna sound stupid but I'm wondering. After the Roman Empire fell apart, the Frankish Empire (Who spoke Germanic Languages) came in to what is now Modern-Day France (Which I assume most of the peasants still spoke Gaulish and the higher-class folk would speak Latin.) Anyway, Why don't they speak some Germanic Language or Gaulish?
Vulgar Latin was by far the more common tongue, as the invaders were actually small in numbers and France had an extremely high population density historically. Couple that with Latin's use in the church and the general prestige that the language carried, and it's only natural that Latin and it's descendant languages would dominate.
>>1209427
Thanks!
>>1209427
I would also say that latin was the language of the imperial administration (which the Franks and visigoths and others tried to maintain) and that the celtic language in Gaul wasn't that different from latin, it would seem, so the two languages appear to have blended to an extent. Current french is essentially derived from latin, but with celtic influences (and some germanic influences as well).

I wanted to lol at seeing this OP. Why would you want to read any philosophy pre-Socratic? I understand that there were thinkers before him, but not that many in all honesty and not measuring up to him. I'm genuinely curious. Also, hope you get the info you want in this thread.
