Why did Europeans end up on top of the world?

I don't think Europe has been on top of anything for a while now.
>>
>>1324684
True, but you do agree it was the center of world civilisation when it mattered? Don't know if it's a coincidence but seems like Europe only got worse once it started importing too many migrants.

Latvia in 1938 had the 10th best economy in Europe, a few hundreds behinde Norway.
Latvia in 2016 is barely Greece and Portugal level and its economy is ruined and will never return back to its potential as one of the best in Europe.

This is the effect of a USSR "liberation"

How many Roman Empires were there and when did the last one fall?

Only one, the Roman Empire. (27 AD - 1453 AD)

>Wheh did the last one fall
May 29, 1453.
>>
There was one, administered by two different governments. One of these collapsed in the 5th century, the other in the 15th century

It's been 75 years so let's discuss Operation Barbarossa or Eastern Front on general. Like, why were the Germans so goddamn brutal?

If Guderian would have had his way, the war would have been very different. Right from Barbarossa...he petitioned for an all out run for the capital with all the armor he could muster, supplied by airdrop and 1000 trucks following him with supplies of food fuel and ammunition...2 weeks was his time frame to get to Moscow and then take the capital. There were other varitions of his plan, but it was far to bold for Hitler and his generals to even consider.

As part of the plan, for the offensive, Guderian wanted every Panzer 4 and Panzer 3 he could lay his hands on, for an armored spearhead to lead the way!

Actually, phalanxes tended to be pretty arrow resistant, at least to the sorts of bows they were facing when it was a thing.

How can a person who believes they are going to stop existing be psychologically stable?

As far as I can see, people who believe they are going to stop existing don't have the sort of eternal grounding to really care about anything. Everything, to them, should be an infinitely trivial issue.

How can I explain this new wave of materialists who say they aren't bothered by this? Is it just bravado? Lack of thought? Or are their minds different to mine?

How can a person who believes they are going to continue existing be psychologically stable.

People keep wondering if the mind exists after death, and I don't think it sticks around after lunch.

Did Protestantism sow the seeds of gluttony acceptance?

I know Aquinas was far fatter than any female saint could get away with, but even so he wrote of gluttony as a sin.

I'm not saying we should judge gluttons anymore than any other sinner, but the idea that we must accept gluttony as beautiful seems to go too far. True, beauty, since the decline of Christianity, has become increasingly seen as totally relative and therefore anything can be beautiful if you call it that (what is avant-garde is seen as the main element of aesthetic superiority, and current year politics ties in heavily with that, hence was is current year ideologically is seen as most aesthetically commendable.

1) Not everyone sees the world through a Christian lens
2) Seeing fat chicks as cute and "accepting gluttony" are two different things.
3) Nobody is insisting you need to find fat chicks attractive, just like nobody is insisting that chubby chasers need too find anorexic twigbitches attractive, either.
4) UUUUUUUUUUUUGH

Old feminism yes, or at least kind of.
Today's feminism no.

Is fried rice really that exotic to Japanese? Is it also really that limited to Central Asia? I always associated it with American Chinese restaurants.

Always been interested in the area since reading about people like Genghis Khan and Tamerlane when I was a kid.

Theres a biography of Genghis Khan by Frank McLynn that I recently read. Gotta say, it was pretty good.

The Horse the Wheel and Language by David W Anthony is a good one too.

Can't say I've ever been. Traveling is fuckin expensive.

Hey, /his/. I am considering making a Youtube channel and one of my ideas was outlining some misconceptions when it comes to blacks in America and their history that largely inform their political values. I wanted to clarify some things with you, because I don't want to just spread memes. A big part of the presentation was going to center around the idea that there was a communist strategy around the time of the civil rights movement to aggravate race relations. How grounded in fact is this, and are there any clarifying details that defy this narrative?

Aren't the Boddhisattva vows of Mahayana sort of ridiculous? The vows state that the individual in question who strives to become a Boddhisattva will postpone his own Buddhahood and paranirvana until the sentient beings in all the worlds and realms have been 'liberated'. And yet, I thought that in the Dharmic religions, there was the concept that the universe is eternal and unending: that is, even if one were to liberate all beings in a certain kalpa (which is being generous), the next kalpa and the new universe would again be filled with uncountable sentient beings. That is, the Dharmic religions - in contrast to the Abrahamic religions - time is circular, rather than linear.

So, in effect, Mahayana practitioners are vowing to never reach Buddhahood and to forever remain in Samsara?

Most Mahayana vows are for something like 10,000 people, not everyone.

How come did Soviet Union fuck up something so simple so badly? They couldn't conquer Finland even in the Continuation war even though they had all the time.

Winter war was basically a big blunder on the soviets part. Their intel on the country was decades old, they insisted on trying to conquer the whole country in 2 weeks and their leadership had been purged so they didnt have a lot of experienced leaders.
