Why did philosophy separate itself from science?

Philosophers of the past used to be almost polymaths, educated in science, math and the humanities. Modern contemporary philosophers on the other hand are mostly pseudo-intellectuals who want to feel deep over holding opinions while not producing anything substantial or new. Philosophers of the past were searchers of unified truth, but philosophers of today are rather taking an anti-science stance and dedicating their careers to the propagation of whatever political agenda is currently trendy.

How can we get back the old way of philosophy?

probably the philosophy of science, determining what standards of proof are needed, scientific method and such things, we could improve peer review, reduce fraud and plan R&D better
>>
>>1344197
Philosophy of science is useless. I meant real philosophy.
>>
>>1344180
The current academic climate is one of specialization.

That's only a fraction of philosophers: the postmodernists and continentals. Most Anglosphere philosophers these days spend a lot of time jerking off to science.

Is it true that Jesus intended his message for Jews only, turning away Gentiles?

Is it true that Christianity only became a thing as a result of the Jewish priests resisting Jesus and his believers, forcing his believers to move away and to transfer his message from the Jews to themselves?

>Is it true that Jesus intended his message for Jews only, turning away Gentiles?
He calls gentiles "dogs", but he does help that gentile child.
>>
Christianity only became a thing because Paul came into the picture and appropriated whatever he could and mixed it with a mixture of his delusions and pagan influence.
>>
No, Jesus preached to gentiles, it's just there weren't a ton in Israel. He does go to the area they inhabit though, Gergesa; it should be a dead giveaway when sends the demons into the herd of swine, since Jews didn't keep swine obviously.

is there a name for this? i believe that there are certain "idealisms" within human civilization that make it thrive. I support religion, the family unit, the concept of nation state on the basis that they are romanticized ideas that humans strive to achieve, even though i dont necessarily subscribe to them. I believe when you take these ideals away, you take away what it means to be human, and humanity simply becomes rats running around in a lab for the elitists

>Within 200 years
>Texas takes the farming states and forms an agricultural powerhouse

Rousseau:
>Debates the nature of government, going back to a theoretical pre-civilized stage to seek a philosophical justification
>Proposes the radical idea that all men are inherrently equal and aristocracies of birth are an injustice against human nature
>Extensively writes about various kinds of freedom and what differentiates for example natural freedom from freedom granted by government
>Thinks up the fundamental principle for a democratic society: the difference between volonté générale and volonté de tous
>Criticizes religion in a respectful way, concluding that true followers of Christ would not make good republicans (something that created a friendly rivalry with Roustan)
>When brought at odds with the Archbishop of Paris, he claims that a free discussion of religion is more religious than conversion by force
>Also writes extensively about children, creating the field of pedagogy
>Also finds the time to write plays and novels, his masterwork Emilie being so good Kant read it multiple times and could not put it down
>All of this done by a man who's self-educated!
>Universally derided and remembered as both a proto-Communist and a proto-Fascist simply for believing in the neccessity of a national identity and patriotism for egalitarian republicanism

>Voltaire
>Can't shut the fuck up in theaters
>Wanks off over England and Prussia even though they're both more of the same
>Praises the aristocracy
>Thinks shitting on Shakespeare somehow makes him a good playwright (spoilers: it doesn't)
>Argued in favor of the status quo (aristocratic monarchies)
>Whined about free speech, but was willing to let Rousseau's books be burned because he disagreed with them
>Mostly remembered for his "witty" sayings rather than his ideas, which weren't all that original to begin with
>The Enlightenment is called "the age of Voltaire"

How? Why? Rousseau was a thinker whereas Voltaire was just a superstar. It's like calling the 21st century the Age of Kardashian.

Born and raised in Miami. I'm from slightly different stock than the average South Floridian (usually, my peers will have at least one Cuban parent, especially if they're white or mixed native), but my dad thought it would be neato to vacation a week in Cuba during the 80's so I've got a unique perspective on it, even if it's somewhat skewed. I've also talked to a lot of native Cubans who are practically fresh off the boat. The times haven't changed that much, from what I've heard.

THE PEOPLE:
>Usually white or black, rarely stereotypically Hispanic looking
>Speak the fastest, ugliest Spanish
>All of them hate their life in Cuba if they came over
>Most of them have left wives and children behind if they came over, one trying hard to bring them over

DAILY LIFE:
>Diet is boiled white rice, beef or pork, kidney beans, coffee and small cigars
>Food is extremely cheap for a middle class American budget
>Most of the housing is in shambles, buildings haven't been renovated since the revolution
>Most learn English from pirated DVD movies and TV shows
>Most people are poor, as expected. From my dad's account, they also have a large homeless problem

ARCHITECTURE:
>All cars are beaters from the 50's
>buildings are old and dirty, but look straight out of the 1800's
>most of the cities are kind of dirty
>most of the cities are kind of empty

Pic related. This was taken within the last five years.

>>1344462
Most of this is the Cuba everyone already knows though, the shitty communist turtle state 90 miles from Florida.

But the Cold War's been over for 25 years. That image of Cuba now seems like an anachronism. What's Cuba doing today?

Sweet cars though.
>>
>>1345784
Different South Floridian here with a Cuban ma and a buuncha Cuban cousins and family still in Cuba.

The same shit, but once in a while a guy has a concert in lil Havana and kids get piercings and shit now. But they're still wiping their ass with news paper in the country side and you can buy a woman for a day for like $5 us dollars. But the people are okay. Doesn't have the highest off crime rates compared to other Latino American countries. Also we speak the best Spanish meng.

But people are still leaving because because it still sucks.

I'd like to address two things here

First, the incorrect Protestant exegesis of Paul: when Paul talks of works, he's not talking about things like visiting prisoners or helping the poor, he's talking about works of the *law* (Galatians 2:16), such as circumcision (Romans 4:10).

Second, I'd like to address the misconception about Peter as the rock: yes, Peter was the rock (and Jerome adds, all Apostles were), but the "rock" is not an office, it's not Peter's chair which is a rock, but Peter himself. The "rock" has to do with Peter's role in the *founding* of the Church, not some ongoing authority. Peter's authority is given to the other Apostles (Matthew 18:18), and Peter himself appeals to elders (a translation of "presbyter", which is anglicized as "priest"--not to be confused with priest as in "pontiff", which all believers are; back then, an elder and an overseer--episkopos, anglicized as "bishop"--were the same office, since there was only one parish per diocese)...what was I saying? Oh yes, Paul appeals to elders purely as a "fellow elder" (1 Peter 5:1), this would be like the Pope appeal to bishops as a "fellow bishop", very obvious here that the "rock" is not an office. The "rock" is a role in founding the Church, not an office that is passed down. The Pope today is no "rock" of the Church, because he had no role in founding it.
