Why did Europeans decided to ruin Middle East and divide Muslims between Shia and Sunni?
>>1461951
Because the opinions of people on the ground didnt matter to the victorious world powers?
Few people at the time outside the foreign office, academics and eccentrics would be able to properly distinguish the differences between the sunnis and shiites and to be fair, there was relative peace and tolerance between the sects at the time of sykes picott.
You did that to yourselves. Don't lie.
>>1461951
The Muslims divided themselves between Sunni and Shi'a within a generation of the death of the Prophet.
The European powers drew lines on a map that did not respect the natural geo-political divisions which had taken place over the ensuing millennium.
Why? The arrogant assumed superiority of the White Man and their ignorance of the Sunni Shi's divide.
Pretty simple really.

Yeah fuck rome.
Why are Sunni Muslims so violently expansionist and intolerant while Shia Muslims, for all their weirdness generally seem content to just mind their own fucking business?
Islam might have been an okay religion were it not for the stupid caliphate idea
because mohammed was a conqueror and the exact thing that differs shia and sunni's from each other is that the sunni follow sunna (mohammed's life story basically) to the very letter while shia follow imams in a similar way.
Is there still a big Shia population in Egypt? I remember Cairo was the main seat of Shia power during the Middle Ages

If you want to start to get into History, you should at least get into the theory. You could check Burke's What is cultural history? for that
My reccs are:
>Howard Zinn's Peoples history of the USA
>RĂ¼diger Safranski's Schopenhauer and the wild years of philosophy
>Marc BLoch's The royal touch
>Jacques Lafaye's Quetzalcoatl and Guadalupe
>Fernand Braudel's The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II

US military on the 27th of July 1991, maybe the Soviets had more nuke power though
Probably the Soviet Union. With 50 000 nukes or whatever I'm pretty sure they could take Rome or Alexander the Great.
Shit thread.

Are we talking relative to its time, or on an absolute scale?
Are modern, young monarchists just in it for the aesthetics and special-snowflakeness of it all?
Honestly, those people on Twitter with a profile image like pic related and a bio something like:
> Monarchist, traditional Catholic, neoreactionary, neomedievalist, and sedevacantist. #DeusVult
They are just as ludicrous as the otherkin, transracial tumblr-ites.
how even can anyone be a "monarchist"
also is self-labeling considered advocating? or do you actually have to work politically to support an ideology?
like if you say you are a monarchist but you are not literally attempting to install a king in your government, what are you really?
>>1471228
Yes they are just edgy neckbeard losers who don't want to adopt a rational and much more mainstream socially liberal, fiscally conservative ideology like libertarianism.

>Are modern, young monarchists just in it for the aesthetics and special-snowflakeness of it all?
Yes.

What long term effects did the Vietnam war have on American culture?
"It aint me", by the Fortunate Sons
half the country has been made extremely cautious about going to war and half has been made bloodthirsty for more war

where the fuck was the other half during the 90's, or 2000's then
the long term effects are probably the heightened soldier worship in american culture
okay history nerds, explain something to me
>molotov-Ribbentrop pact
>USSR and Nazi germany agree to a none agression pact, and to slice up eastern europe into spheres of influence, and on the condition that they cant help the sides they might fight (ex. Russia cant supply western Poland, and Germany cant supply estonia)
>invade Poland and everything is fine
>but now Germany has to face France and England in the west
>Russia knows Germany is in a bad situation and tries to use it to their advantage
>???russia demands a bunch of unrealistic things from germany, believing they have them by the balls???
>Germany says fuck that and invades them
So is this what happened? And if so, what were the demands Stalin made that were just so unreasonable for Hitler?
he didn't make any demands, the invasion was precautionary to an invasion by the Soviets I'm guessing
You're forgetting the part where both dictators were idealists, and sincerely believed that the other nation/ideology had to be destroyed to achieve their goals.
Stalin believed that Nazi Germany was another racist/capitalist tool that eventually had to be dealt with (like Poland in 1919), before the communist revolution could be brought to liberate the people of Europe.
Hitler believed Soviet Russia was another front for international Jewery, and embodied everything "poisoning" human improvement; from communism to race-mixing.

Why didn't they just become allies? They were both edgy socialists and both hated capitalism and western liberalism. It wouldn't have been too much of a stretch for them to team up.

Friend of mine does belly dancing and I went to see her show the other night. While eating dinner and watching her and other dancers entertain guests it got me thinking about how completely haram belly dancing must be for Muslims. But then I wondered about Arabian culture other middle east culture BEFORE Islam was a thing. What was it like? I am sure that it wasn't all fun and dancing constantly but it must have been better than in currently is at least. Did women have more freedom and rights? What did the men do? I think the Babylonians were polytheistic, what about other cultures of the time?
Can any history buffs in Middle Eastern history help me satisfy my curiosity?
