Exercise produces endorphins. Is it because I just finished a good workout and I know I worked hard etc. that I feel good and that's where the endorphins are coming from, or is it because exercise produces endorphins in and of itself that I feel good?
To what extent can we say our brain chemistry is just a physical reflection of our inner states, instead of the other way around?
I want to marry that handsome gorilla.
The exercise itself produces endorphins. Thusly you feel good that you worked hard.

are you the 'tfw too intelligent to lift' shitposter on /fit/?
Anyone other /his/+/fit/fags here?
What happened to male hairstyles in the 1970s? It's like having a short traditional cut was so out of style that no man had it at all. How is that possible when 20 years earlier it was the ONLY acceptable haircut for men? The left side of the image is a yearbook page from 1968 and right is from 1977. Every guy on the left has a short traditional haircut and 9 years later none of them do. Why?

Okay but they were at their height in 1968 and were dead for 7 years by 1977

The 70s was essentially the products of the successful cultural revolution that occurred during the 60s. People associate the 60s with hippies and long hair, but the true age of the mainstream hippie was the the 70s. That was why the 80s was clean cut and dominated by conservativism
Have you ever heard of the ancien Lechina Empire? If yes then what have you heard?
Here in Poland we basically start our history in 966 from the baptism. But i stumbled upon some sources pointing out that this isn't quite true....
idk know if there are some English sources of this. The pan-slavists claim that some Assyrians held the record of this empire but no one knows if thats true.

What did things look like in the Baltics between 1920 and the Soviet Annexation of 1940?
Ulmanis studied agriculture at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
I always get a kick out of that. A Latvian presidential dictator was an Ag student at Nebraska.

Lithuanian here.
It was pretty much our golden age.
>>1473268
Under his reign, Lithuania was the first country in the world to trial nazis, his reign was nationalistic, but not chauvinistic like for example Poland's or imperialistic like Germany or USSR.
Antanas Smetona said about our minorities: "Lithuanians are the creators of their own state and national minorities are the supporters of it. As we don't demand them to melt in our nation, so we let them have their own mother tongue, we let them communicate with their compatriots about cultural affairs. But they have to be our territorial patriots: love Lithuania, respect Lithuanian nation, be loyal to Lithuania and to comply to the order of law not from constraint, but from conscience.
In 1934, in his speech to the boy scouts, he stated that there are two different movements competing with nationalism: it's socialism, based on marxism, and racism. Racism, according to him, "does not acknowledge the equality of nations, it states, that some nations have to serve others. Racism is the law of egoism, therefore it rejects the absolute morality. It is warlike, for it the one who is stronger, is the more equal. Its purpose is war, not peace. For it, you have to blindly serve your fatherland and you can just destroy the foreign, fatherland of other people if you can".
He was a great ruler, he was the one who wanted to resist the soviets, but everyone denied that, so he had to run away and some soviet agents burnt his house in usa after the war.
Did this autist seriously believe he could win a two front war?
There was another country that did in the same exact war, why is it an outlandish concept to you?

I think he means the US, USSR, and British commonwealth were surrounded by enemies on all sides desu
I like the Turkish people. According to genetic analyses they have a genetic predisposition towards cognitive and behavioural inhibition, male philopatry, endogamy and friendship homophily.
And I also like their traditional family system, the patrilineal and patrilocal joint family.
What do you think would have happened if Ottomans had succeeded in conquering all of Europe? Would have history been different?
Colonialism would have either happened sooner or later.
if sooner it would have been the catholic nobility escaping t north America and if later it would have been ottoman expeditions in the late 1700's to north America. the tech rate would be reduced significantly and currently it would appear as if it were the late 1800's
>>1471425
Europe would have become an islamic shithole, but Europe is already in process of becoming an islamic shithole anyway.
>>1471425
If the ottomans actually did it the new world would become far more important for the fleeing nobility.
Also I guess the stable government would be good for europe there wouldn't be shitshows like the 30 years war happening.
What if the American and French revolutions never happened? How would the industrial revolution play out with no modern republics? How would old monarchies fare in a technologically advanced world?
who knows
>implying this would have been possible
>implying economic systems aren't subservient to technological progress
>implying the replacement of feudalism with capitalism wasn't as inevitable as the replacement of capitalism with communism

Fuck off Marxist
Alright, without turning this into a today's immigration thread, is there any society that went through a change of the dominant ethnicity without collapsing?
eg
Roman Empire
dominant ethnicity: Italics (Only Citizens of Rome until the Constutio Antoniniana -212 BC - non citizens could acquire citizenship by serving the Roman cause in various ways, but not by birth)
With the Constitutio Antoniniana, everyone within the borders gets the citizenship and Rome starts struggling with military recruitment--->hires people outside the borders, barbarization of the legions, collapse of Rome
Moving elsewhere,
Rashidun Caliphate: dominant ethnicity: arab
eventually arabs are overwhelmed in numbers by Syrian converts-->First Fitna--->Ummayad Caliphate
Ummayad Caliphate: dominant ethnicity: Syrians
At the Second Siege of Constantinople 200k ethnic Syrians die, the core of Ummayad support--->new civil war
Abbasid Caliphate: dominant ethnicity: mesopotamiam/Iraqi, subjugated by Turks, basically destroyed by Mongols
>>1471342
The United States
>>1471345
Hasn't happened yet.
Anglo-Saxons are still the dominant ethnicity
I don't think that works. All societies, nations, empires, have collapsed at some point, it would be extremely hard to blame it on the change in dominant ethnicity and not the other reasons, especially when you consider the change in ethnic dominator is usually what leads to a rise in that nations power.
Arent nihilism and depression the same thing?
Well yeah sort of. Those who are philosophically inclined or want to think themselves as such often explain their depression to themselves as something to do with objective meaninglessness of life, when really it's more about something being physically wrong in their brain. When you are not depressed, you do not give a fuck whether things you value are 'objectively' valuable or not.
>>1471305
No. Prooftext: I'm a nihilist and I'm not depressed.
>>1471305
I have been depressed although I've never been a nihilist.
How did Julius Caesar tie in with the Gracchus brothers?
they capitalized on the rising discontent of the plebs as their justification for trying to usurp the existing power structure.
>>1471158
The reforms and assassination of the Gracchi brothers was the starting point for the whole optimates-populares feud
>>1471158
The Gracchi started the end and Caesar finished it.
Which Pope was it that said essentially "We can either convert pagans by taking their rituals and celebrations that they are already comfortable with and just tweak them a little so they worship the actual God, or we can start fucking killing them. I'd prefer to do the first".
I heard the actual quote a while ago but I've never been able to find which Pope it was an d the exact quote.

Have you guys done this yet?
And what exactly is "this?" I'm guessing by the content that it's a look at religion from a psychological and anthropological angle, but to what end?
Please post more of these.

Pretty sure. It was posted on lit.
Hi guys. I have one Audible freebie left and I want to get a book on Augustus. The Williams book was recommended to me, but i've read reviews favoring the Goldsworthy book. Any preferences or opinions? Thanks.
Life of Deified Augustus - Suetonius
Adrian Goldsworthy is pretty based, though "Augustus" is far weaker than "Caesar: Life of a colossus" IMO
It's a fairly well-worn topic but how can we be sure that Satan is actually evil and assured defeat when we have only a book written by his enemies.
Or what if neither God or Satan are evil but rather two parties in a cosmic civil war that we as humans are unable to make a moral judgment upon.
Is it accurate to characterize Satan as the first revolutionary?
Did his wings turn from bird to bat when he fell from grace or were they always like that?
>>1470877
Failed revolutionary, sure.
>>1470877
The Biblical account doesn't make sense. Satan knew the mind of God, so he knew without possibility of error that he would lose his war and be punished horribly for it, forever. Yet he did it anyway? Something is missing from this account.
