Considering that both Latin and the various Germanic languages had case systems, why weren't they preserved in modern Romance languages?
On a similar note, why and when did french begin to nasalize vowels and drop the final consonants?
Asking "why" for things related to language usually is useless, the answer is usually just "because that's how people talked".

But why?

Were all wars seriously just some guy drawing arrows on a map cause it looked like it would work in their head?
Military leaders like Napoleon are meant to have studied Alexanders strategies but literally every book i read about war from ancient to modern just has movement lines
Does anyone have actual books or other things to study military strategy with?

All the department of defense command and control research program books are free. Most of them are easy to read and bring in examples from history.

Thanks, i'm looking at it now
If anyone else can post more resources posted in this thread would be appreciated
Why does every thread on this board turn into a discussion of religion?
Has anything else really played a bigger role in history?

Religion is a theory of everything. If you believe it, it makes sense to bring it into everything.
In general, Africans - those in Africa - reject the legacy of colonialism, insisting it only brought oppression and destruction of traditional cultures with little to no benefits for the African countries.
However, it seems strange to me that Africans should still very strongly embrace religions that were imposed in them by foreign powers, namely Christianity and Islam. Africa is the only continent that sees a consistently high level of religious affiliation, unlike the declining number of religious people in the Americas and Europe or in East Asia;
Why do they espouse the religions that were imposed on them? After all, both the Christians and Muslims destroyed/displaced traditional pagan religions, seeing them as barbaric 'superstitions'. I would have thought that in the wake of the de-colonization movement, there would have been a call for the restoration of traditional pagan religions and the abandonment of Christianity and Islam, but the opposite happened - Christianity and Islam see their only real growth happening on the African continent!
to me it would be inferred that while colonialism is not fresh in the minds of most africans, religion is something taught and learned from a very young age. therefore it could be thought that although it is easy for them to reject the history of colonialism, the affiliation of that to religion is not clear or relevant enough to most of them to warrant any sort of conflict.

Let's dispel once and for all with this fiction that Peter Alexeyevich doesn't know what he's doing. He knows EXACTLY what he's doing. Peter Alexeyevich is undertaking a systematic effort to change this country, to make the Russian Empire more like the rest of the world.
Bullying Alexei was kind of rude.
But its to be expected of Russians who can only know cruelty, belligerence, alchoholism and the sufferings that result from them.

Were leather gauntlets or thick gloves common in ancient/medieval armies, or is it just a reenactorism?
>>1611104
Yes
Isabella and Ferdinand wrote about Beltran de la Cueva and his autistic fascination with collecting left handed leather gauntlets
>>1611217
Isn't that well after the use of metal plate gauntlets? What about Viking age etc. stuff?
>>1611242
Well, only a few decades before Alvaro de Luna wrote about his need for leather cuirass for his soldiers
what are some of the best texts on the 90s balkan conflict? preferably something that gives a more general historical background of events/ideologies leading up to it, and one that doesnt focus specifically on the involvement on one institution and its role in everything
also i invite a general discussion of the conflict from whichever angle you want to address it

1. Use the hook part to lock the enemies weapon
2. Bash them with your shield
3. Stab them with the pointy edge
Or just bash their limbs
Start high and swing down.

>1. Use the hook part to lock the enemies weapon
Protip:
Hooking is massively overrated.
Can you guys suggest some history related literature?

"Chevaliers du christ" by Alain Demiurger.
A treaty on the history of military-religious monastic orders of the Holy Land, Reconquista and Prussia. Looks pretty well done so far.
Did prudeness and chastity help advance society or did just make a time bomb of sexual perversion?
>>1610586
ask japan
>no reliable birth control
>childbirth is frequently fatal
>no social safety net, so if you don't have kids, and you get to old to work, you are going to end up as a beggar, best case scenario
>social norms evolve that place extreme emphasis on conserving sex to situations where it has the highest possible chance of resulting in successful procreation
>sexual revolution results when progesterone birth control makes sex a safe, unlimited commodity
>>1610586
In times of prudeness, sexual deviance would go on a rise. That said, I'd argue most of history was mostly sexual deviance. Most notably the middle ages and the 1700's.
The Victorian period was full of prudeness but there more whores than there are now in that time period.
Really, its all about hypocrisy of the society.
Discuss relationship between National Socialism and Islam.
Hitler admired Islam. Muslims volunteered to fight in WWII.
Is it true that Nazi officials helped train Palestinian fighters? That Hamas makes the Nazi salute to this day?
Mein Kampf is a best seller in Muslim countries.
Syria currently has a national socialist party with elected officials and over 100,000 registered members.
Why did the Christian God command it's believers to be such shitty artists with no sense of depth or perspective?

Christians are known to be shit be shit at everything they do
>b-but muh newton
Statistical outliers, you dumb christcuck
It didn't have anything to do with religion as much as the economic realities of the time and place as well as some scientific limitations.
Hence why later Christian artists produced some of the most enduring works of art in all of history.

Gommunist. It would have been taken over by the Soviets because Britain and America were the only thing that kept them from annexing all of Europe. Nothing would have sparred a Britain on the side of the axis.
