I like to think our warfare has reached a new level of secrecy and espionage.

That being if there is a war it would be almost totally economic, with enemies of the state plotting the execution of the whole state. (taking out the leadership).

Technological advancements has happened at such a rate we can really not know what the next 'big' war will be that, that being a war featuring the big powers of the world.

I know how ever if I had all this technology at my fingertips, it makes it A LOT easier to target the leaders solely, much more effectively cutting the heads off of snakes.

I mean how can Russian. China, America, England war when the threat of total destruction lies at almost every turn? SUpply lines can be severed before they are even placed due to destruction of environments. Not nukes, but the world has so many missiles, and such little missile defence (comparatively) the next war will be utterly massive. It will rely on almost no actual personnel, as they will be essentially useless.

Age of counterintelligence and espionage is a scary fucking thing.

Yeah that unused extra division was to take the longest path all the way around from the very North - It only really prevented them from taking Paris requiring them to move south and try to crush the Entente's army. Although a victory at the Marne I don't think would've demolished the army, it would have 1. prevented/stalled the emergence of trench warfare (something in which the German's were doomed too lose over a long period of time) 2. Destabilized and Demoralized the Entente's coalition continuing their 40 day retreat while leaving Paris virtually undefended. So... yeah by then either Moltke goes crazy again or they win the war.

Well, considering that the Marne's approach was already deviating from the Schlieffen plan considerably, no, it would not mean a successful implementation of the Schlieffen plan.

That being said, a major German victory (although I have no idea how you'd pull one off) would really mangle France and might lead to the fall of Paris, which would probably be the deathblow, and thus a quick win for Germany in WW1.

Today's Arab armies are useless because they're designed to be useless - competent military leaders get sacked lest they become too popular and stage a coup, each section of the military works in opposition to each other section, again as an anti-coup measure, and each country has 5+ intelligence services which devote their time to spying on one another rather than on external enemies. Also, most have top-down command structures which don't reward initiative, e.g. in the 1973 war Sadat basically running everything from Cairo and not allowing commanders any leeway to make their own decisions and react to changing situations. There're other reasons but I reckon these are the main ones. Contrast this with how the IDF works, or indeed how Hezbollah, the sole competent Arab army, works.
