Why was the global liberal revolution more successful than the global socialist revolution?

Both were radical shake-ups of the social order that strip power from the elites. Did socialism simply come too soon?

So /his/ I was wondering with myself quite a lot over the past few days on the question of forced euthanasia and its relation to abortion. (I apologize in advance for my English)
For quite a while now the question of abortion has been a subject of public debate, and while it has now shifted toward "women's right vs. pro-life" (and atheism vs. religious), it's still a hot subject when dealing with the limits of human life and value.

To get this out of the way, I think abortion is murder but that it's useful ; the main arguments my friends have been opposing me when I share my views were that it was a threat to women’s freedom, that a fetus wasn't a human being, or that considering conception as the beginning of human's life was arbitrary.

Those arguments felt weak, in that truth can sometimes be inconvenient, that a fetus was a human being "en puissance", and that the conception felt less arbitrary than the limits governments made in terms of weeks of fetus development (not even taking into accounts "special cases" where it's allowed later because of malformations, i.e. some lives are not condoned as worth living).

This got me thinking about the elderly with Alzheimer, or people that are not in possession of their mental faculties (vegetables), and that will probably never be again. If abortion is authorized, as a cessation of life by a third party, shouldn’t euthanasia be legal for those extreme cases, which are a strain on their family and society? Can those being be considered people anymore?

>It’s inhuman to treat people that way! Just because they can’t think or we can’t prove they’re conscious doesn’t mean we have a right to end their lives for our convenience!
Well, how do we account for abortion then? Is it illogical to approve of one, yet oppose the other?

>murder is just plain bad! Human life has inherent, inqualifiable value!
Sure, but there are still exceptions. Death penalty, killing an enemy during war, murder in self-defense, abortion, are all murders that society will let you walk away from because they're useful or seen as righteous. Should we add euthanasia to the list?
>>
Yes, there is no reason to keep a permanently braindead body alive. I think you'll find that's a popular belief, so if you were looking for hypocrisy I think you'll be disappointed.

Oh, can I order my doctor to euthanise my alzheimer ridden father?

Why the fuck do legit scholars and professors get involved with these types of pseudoscience hacks? First season, sure I get it, they didnt know they were gonna be edited to look like fools. But at this point you gotta feel huge blowback from your peers for getting suckered in like this.

You really think that the History Channel is cutting big checks to professors for their 30 minute shows? If anything this type of shit would hurt your chances for grants authorized by boards of your peers, assuming you arent writing a pyrimidiot book yourself.

Do we know anything about Neolithic civilizations that isn't just wild assumptions?
34 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>1622498
Yes that they built megaliths.
>>
>>1622498
Great reasonably current well narrated well sourced book on the subject.

Short answer: yes
>>
>>1622498

Yes quite a lot, we've found their houses, we've found their trash pits, we've found their fields and their domesticated animals, we've found their tools and weapons. Only a couple of neolithic societies had writing so we'll never know lots of stuff about them, but we certainly know a great deal more than you might initially think possible.

The world is scary. People with tough constitution can face the intricacies and ambiguities of the world. Weakling cant.

These weaklings spin many moral systems to ease their perspective on the world. This creates what Kant called a "space of reasons", which are explanations for why things are the way they are. You honor your mother and father because you now have reason to after this invention, which helps shield against how scary the world is.

Christianity is a myth with tons of effort put into making these reasons really convincing. However they ultimately failed and God died, except for Protestantism, the second worst German invention. The myths for a new comprehensive world view have not been fully constructed, though, so society is in a weird state where people often don't see reason and purpose in the world, science is anti-teleology. Autists and fedoras cling to the old myths because they're uninventive, unoriginal and most importantly, terrified of life.

That's why their faith appears so utter insane. The truth is, fear and weakness drives the need for mythology of reasons for existence.

Characters of the Inquisition by William Thomas Walsh. It's a pretty old book, and the old professor firmly believes Torquemada didn do nuffin

The Spanish Inquisition: A Historical Revision by Henry Kamen. This one takes a lot of heat from the media, but it's well reviewed by academic journals

Meet Lee Archer, the only black flying ace. His obituaries mention an Air Force investigation that confirmed a 4.5/5th kill (fatally disabling a German aircraft). It doesn't seem anywhere to be found, however, and as it directly contradicts the two researchers - (both old white men from the South, for what it's worth (it's worth a lot)) who claim to have gone back into official records to disabuse us of the notion that the 5th kill exists - and in so doing informs a good number of articles about the dude, it's kind of important. If the investigation took place later, obviously going back to original (flawed) records would be futile and counterproductive.

I need the receipts, /his/. (And not just the original research of old fogies with an agenda.)

Anybody have an insight to why the capital of the Roman empire changed a few times?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1621574
The emperors would move sometimes
>>
>>1621574
Rome because ROMAN empire.
Tetrarchy meant four capitals (Milan, Trier, Sirmium, Nicomedia).
Constantine wanted to have a single one, but more central and more defensible than Rome, so he chose Byzantium, already a basically impregnable site due to geography and centuries of fortifications.
Ravenna because Milan had become too exposed to barbarian attack, so they chose a more defensible site while fortifying Rome.
Syracuse because Constans II wanted to move the capital back to Italy for symbolism, but Rome wasn't adequate anymore.
>>
Rome was too far from the Rhine-Danube frontier. Milan was closer to the frontier while still being located behind the Alps. Trier, Belgrade, and Nikomedia were located directly next to the frontiers. Ravenna was located next to the sea for easy access to reinforcements and was surrounded by swamps.Constantinople was easily defensible and was located on an important trade route. Syracuse was far from the frontier and was more adequate as a capital than Rome.

So the historical perfection game Titanic honor and glory released a new demo last week, the first one in over a year. Thoughts?

So far I'm impressed with the accuracy of the model, and the UT engine makes lighting and textures look good. Still surprised that some of the corridors in the ship are only 2' wide. Aside from the Cafe Parisienne and the a la carte cafe, nothing really interesting to see other than corridors
