Why was red army casualties so high?
The purge of Russia's officers by stalin as well as the lost of equipment and men/ surprise of the attack were reasons for the defeats earlier in the war. Late war battles, featuring experienced/ well equipped Russian soldiers featured the same trend of high soviet casualty rates. Why is this so? Is it because of the Russian's rush to Berlin? Well they were attacking and attacking army usually suffers more casualties.
Keep in mind Soviets were playing constant catch-up, they were caught with their pants down and decimated so they had to rebuild their army almost from scratch, and they lacked experienced officers and NCO's. They learned the hard way.
>>
Because the Reds were fighting for survival. Losing meant being exterminated.

How can you explain the Mongol Empire in any way other then great man history? Mongols were one of the weakest horse nomads. They were relatively few in numbers and had few resources, as most of their land isn't even steppes but mountains and deserts. They were inferior to their rivals both economically and numerically, and they were even divided among themselves. It doesn't follow that they were able to conquer the known world - unless you take into account that a man like Genghis Khan can completely change history just due to his genius.

What were race relations like during the Great Depression? Would you ever see an integrated Hooverville?

I've got a picture of a Hooverville being broken up by police officers with black and white destitute on the same side in my computer. I'll try to find it when I get home.

Dayum that took some work to figure out.

Apparently they are Dueling Shields.

http://myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.2991.html

>...they are specialized weapons for judicial duels. You can see them in period manuscripts such as those from Hans Talhoffer or the Codex Wallerstein...

(dafuq?)

>Trial by combat (also wager of battle, trial by battle or judicial duel) was a method of Germanic law to settle accusations in the absence of witnesses or a confession in which two parties in dispute fought in single combat; the winner of the fight was proclaimed to be right. In essence, it was a judicially sanctioned duel.

What was the Mexican Revolution? Was it intended to be a socialist or communist revolution like Cuba?
12 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Although there were armed conflicts in mexico over land and worker rights, the real revolution came from the power vacuum left by porfirio diaz and the USA attempting to control who ruled the country. Had the US ambassador not order President Madero killed, the revolution would not have happened.
>>
>>1657115
Didn't the revolution continue after Madero was elected?
>>
it was lead by peasant warlords (caudillos), its aim was land reform first and foremost and there were socialists and communists but not the main influence

Who is the biggest Xanatos Gambiter in history?

>A Xanatos Gambit is a plan for which all foreseeable outcomes benefit the creator — including ones that superficially appear to be failure. The creator predicts potential attempts to thwart the plan, and arranges the situation such that the creator will ultimately benefit even if their adversary "succeeds" in "stopping" them. When faced with a Xanatos Gambit the options are either to accept that the creator will get the upper hand and choose the outcome that is least beneficial to them, or to defeat them by finding a course that they didn't predict.

>At its most basic, the Xanatos Gambit assumes two possible outcomes for the one manipulated — success or failure. The plan is designed in such a way that either outcome will ultimately further the plotter's goals. A more complex view is offered by the study of probability in which such a gambit is known as a Dutch Book and involves securing bets such that regardless of the outcome the bookie will always pay out less than was bet.

>Since the Xanatos Gambit can involve an obvious goal's apparent failure, this is a convenient device in an ongoing series to let the villain occasionally win (preventing Villain Decay) while still giving the heroes a climactic pseudo-victory.

He who is most anarchistically inclined stands to gain the most. Totalitarian regimes don't ever last. America is heading to a socialist/communist shithole because of its mispractice & malinvestment.

If you have non hypocritical axioms and critically strategically correct continuation of intelligence-action, you'll last the longest.

I don't know who this applies too, probably something east-west.

>Pennsylvania, a northeastern U.S. state and one of the 13 original colonies, has a diverse terrain, which includes wide stretches of farmland, national forests and mountains. Philadelphia, the Keystone State’s largest city, displays its rich history in Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed) and the Liberty Bell, an enduring symbol of American freedom.

> Zhang then embarked on a campaign of terror, which was well under way by the middle of 1645, to stamp out the remaining resistance in Sichuan. In November 1645, according to de Magalhães, Zhang, after hearing that "a huge and powerful army was coming against him", announced that "the people of his kingdom had a secret pact with the enemy and planned an uprising; because of this he was determined to kill all, leaving not one person alive". The Jesuits, who now "understood the evil of this man", reported that while they managed to save a few of their people who were taken, the rest were killed. Zhang's policy of terror increased in intensity, especially in 1646 after he had decided to abandon Sichuan. By then, Zhang's government had virtually disintegrated, all but three of his principal officials had either committed suicide or were executed.
>The events surrounding Zhang Xianzhong's rule and afterwards devastated Sichuan, where he was said to have "engaged in one of the most hair-raising genocides in imperial history". Lurid stories of his killings and flayings were given in various accounts. According to Shu Bi (蜀碧), an 18th-century account of the massacre, after every slaughter, the heads were collected and placed in several big piles, while the hands were placed in other big piles, and the ears and noses in more piles, so that Zhang Xianzhong could keep count of his killings. In one incident, he is said to have organized an imperial examination ostensibly to recruit scholars for his administration, only to have all the candidates, which numbered many thousands, killed. In another, to give thanks for his recovery after an illness, he was said to have cut off the feet of many women. The severed feet were heaped in two piles with those of his favorite concubine, whose feet were unusually small, placed on top. These two piles of feet were then doused in oil and set alight to become what he called "heavenly candles".

which five Australian laws/Acts/legislations are most relevant to the financial services sector, and why? I'll start with the obvious - the privacy Act (so obvious it doesn't need explanation)
6 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1656656
The first two I'd argue are

The corporations act 2001
The partnership act

After that it gets pretty arguable for some or others though law isn't my strong suit
3rd would probably be the income tax act of 1997
Followed by your suggestion of the privacy act
Idk 5 could be any number of things
>>
>>1656656
Not really law but more of a guideline
But AASB is crucial to all forms of accounting so that's important too

> Reserve Bank Act 1959 - removed the central banking functions from the Commonwealth Bank. The Reserve Bank of Australia, on 14 January 1960, became the Australian central bank and banknote issuing authority.

Relevant because nobody knows the definition let alone differences between currency & money I guess, to banking industry and practices (obvious), and likewise to citizens, or to bankers seeking intelligence on breadth of knowledge that citizens have on the matter. Professional conduct obligation to inform clients on correct banking practices.

Unconsciousable conduct, bank runs, etc.
