Post dictatorial nutcases and the hilarious laws they've passed.
Saparmurat Niyazov, first president of Turkmenistan
>Niyazov banned the use of lip syncing at public concerts in 2005 as well as sound recordings at "musical performances on state holidays, in broadcasts by Turkmen television channels, at all cultural events organized by the state... in places of mass assembly and at weddings and celebrations organized by the public," citing a negative effect on the development of musical arts incurred by the use of recorded music.
>Niyazov banished dogs from the capital Ashgabat because of their "unappealing odour."
>According to the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru, right-hand-drive imported cars converted to left-hand-drive were banned due to a perceived increased risk in accidents.
>Niyazov requested that a "palace of ice", or indoor ice skating rink, be built near the capital, so that those living in the desert country could learn to skate. The rink was built in 2008 and is located near the new Turkmen State Medical University.
>After having to quit smoking in 1997 due to his resultant heart surgery, he banned smoking in all public places and ordered all government employees to follow suit. Chewing tobacco on Turkmen soil was later banned as well.
>He outlawed opera, ballet, and circuses in 2001 for being "decidedly unturkmen-like".
>In February 2004 he decreed that men should no longer wear long hair or beards.
>He banned news reporters and anchors from wearing make-up on television, because he said he found it difficult to distinguish male anchors from female anchors.
>Gold teeth were discouraged in Turkmenistan after Niyazov suggested that the populace chew on bones to strengthen their teeth and lessen the rate at which they fall out. He said:
"I watched young dogs when I was young. They were given bones to gnaw to strengthen their teeth. Those of you whose teeth have fallen out did not chew on bones. This is my advice..."
the last one is pretty hilarious

That dude in Venezuela who started having people arrested for having too much toilet paper. It all started when the Venezuelan government decided that toilet paper should be free so they sent soldiers down to stores to confiscate toilet paper and distribute it among the population. This worked for a short time, expect that the stores decided not to restock toilet paper in fear that it would be confiscated again. And so while there was more toilet paper for everybody in the short term, in the long term toilet paper became rare because stores simply stopped selling it. Then end result is that they now have a black market for toilet paper. It gets smuggled into the country and sold by the same people who sell drugs.
this breaks the 25 year rule
Why were there no Orthodox monastic warrior orders like the Knights Templar?
well those warriors orders were born from the crusades and the byzantines were too pussy to help so that's probably why
>>1813268
Oh dear.
Catholicism is like an Orthodox fanfic, they could break with doctrine and make shit up.
Sikhism + Chan/Zen Buddhism would be the most redpilled patrician religion in the world. Prove me wrong, m8s
>>1812973
More like Sikhism + Theravada Buddhism + Stoicism
I've actually thought about converting to Sikhism; they're a lot more rational than other religions, but unfortunately they still require leaps of faith and following pointless rituals and codes of behavior.
>>1812973
We're fine the way we are.
>>1812995
>but unfortunately they still require leaps of faith and following pointless rituals and codes of behavior
I don't agree. I'm a Sikh and I don't feel like I'm doing anything pointless.
>>1813853
Well, you obviously wouldn't. It's just stuff like the 5 Ks, which while interesting, are ultimately pointless beyond symbolism, or the restrictions on behavior like never getting intoxicated or strict sexual and marital monogamy.
>b-but muh contract!

There's always that faggot that has to stand out

Stop spamming this, you aren't funny.

It's literally only one and if you adopt a trip I will fucking kill you. There are too many already
Why should i be moral if it doesn't benefit me?
Because that is a will of God.
>>1812909
It does benefit you. Because you are not an isolated island, and consequences for actions always result down the line.
This line of thinking is the internal justification for people who make major fuck ups and don't benefit themselves well.

>Located part way up a 400 foot high mesa in Hidden Mountain, New Mexico, the famous Los Lunas Stone (pictured with the author's wife) is inscribed in an ancient form of Hebrew and contains an abreviated version of the Ten Commandments. Many point to this as proof of cultural diffusion by Phoenicians, who came to North America for mining and trade.
Columbus and the Vikings best move out the way and make room for the true discoverers of the New World.

Pseudo historic bullshit just like those "Minoan" ingots in the US, pure bullshit supported by uneducated sensationalists

Examples of political under currents from national propaganda using religion, creating giant reactionary cults that lead people to murder and commit debauchery
Examples, I'm limiting to America
Children of God, The Family International
Scientology
Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
Latter Day Church of Christ
Apostolic United Brethren
Davis County Cooperative
Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God
The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ
And last but not least
/pol/
Can we examine the potential cost down the line, of embracing the beliefs paralleled by cultish attitudes down the line? That history can be observed these beliefs go down dark places? Where the population finds fighting so bothersome they become compliant and let more and more manipulation and abuse take place? Skin heads and nationalists, religious "revolutionaries", the pious, never make for a good future when given power.
Besides LDS and Scientology, those are identifiable doomsday cults, which is an interesting parallel. Outside of personal beliefs on prophethood or interpreting scrupture, they all seem to have this obsession with apocalypticism.
Who would like to live in /pol/ government nation, here?
>>1812816
What better way to attract a following then telling people that their leaders propaganda (that most joe schmos would agree with) is not only right and correct, but it doesn't go nearly far enough and we're all in critical danger.
It's extremely disturbing that we're going down this path into whatever belly of the beast awaits when it comes to political radicalism in the internet. I'm fairly sure in the future we'll see the lessening of popularity of religious cults than political cults. I find /pol/, places like it, the spawning pool of potentially disastrous outcomes.
They hold themselves the sole bearers of the truth that everything we know is in jeopardy and they are the righteous way. It's not a good path to run with, if modern 20th century American and European history tells us anything.,
>Hans! Rudolf! Get the chainsaws!
What did he mean by this, /his/?
>>1812785
He wanted Hans and Rudolf to get the chainsaws?
He meant ERHALTEN SIE DIE FICKEN KETTENSĂGEN DUMMKOPF
Yeah i heard this guy was the one responsible for the death rollercoasters at auschwitz, he conceived the blue prints all by himself and then gave the order to build them to send the kikes on a deathly joyride

What is the most practical philosophy?

Why do most philosophers believe in moral realism?
spooks
>>1812662
Moral realism validates the only field of study within philosophy that is taken seriously by people not interested in philosophy.
The same reason why they believe in "logical realism", both logic and morality just created inside human heads, but anyone who is truly logical relativist would be laughed upon, hard.
What happened to Historical foods /his/? It seems like everything now is just processed shit and "new and modern" variations of old things.
Shit like Pemmican, Switchel and bone broth, etc.
I've made them myself and they are simple to make and tend to be delicious. So what happened? Did they get faded out? Just better alternatives?
Also general old time food thread
>>1812563
Pemmican is processed food. We have other ways of making food not perishable now. We have clean purified tap water, but there's nothing preventing you from making switchel. Bone broth is literally just stock. You can buy it in a can or make it yourself. It hasn't gone anywhere and traditionally, and currently, it's frequently still made from scratch.
>>1812563
>bone broth
is this what Americans call stock?
I miss having fucking rocks in my bread.
What is Machiavellian virtĂș?
To earn the respect of ones homies while staying true to yo hood.
>>1812539
Values which, while not necessarily being useful for a private citizen in his own life, are useful to have in a body politic for the state or other political entity..
>>1812585
>>1812539
I just want to tack on that the concept can (and frequently is) applied to the head of state in addition to just the citizenry.
So to give an example, being an accomplished liar and being able to deceive other people are not usually considered virtues in the personal realm. In the political realm of state interaction however, it can be very, very useful.
>The narrative in Genesis is not written in a literary style proper to allegory, as in the Song of Songs, but from beginning to end in a style proper to history, as in the Books of Kings and the other works of that type
What did he mean by this?
>>1812489
That the yahwists thought their folk tales were real.
>>1813900
Isn't Genesis primarily the Elohist?
>>1813900
>>1813901
No it's Priestly since the use of the word Elohim is used of YHWH, but Genesis 2 starts using YHWH-EL instead, though a consensus of it is Priestly it could suggest that the Yahwist and Elohist conflated the two make sure that YHWH is El and El and YHWH. I'm more skeptical of a separate author for J and E I conflate the two together.
