What was the relationship between black servants and whites? In William Faulkner novels they're always telling grown men what to do fearlessly.

As house slaves, they were a permanent part of family life. They'd help raise the children, engage in conversation. Anyone spending years together in that manner develops a bond that, while ultimately and indisbutely founded by racism, was also a form of kinship.

Of course this is speaking generally. There was plantation owners that were completely abusive.

In a sane world all churches would be replaced by houses of philosophy with seminars and group discussions, and clinical philosophers would be sought after instead of priests.

Thoughts?

I know there's a lot of complaints from Americans mainly when classicals get cast with actors who speak with theatre RP, but surely it's a less jarring convention than Colin Farrell's Irish accent?

It's alright OP, most of the people who ever lived fell for this meme in one form or another. It's got to be the dankest meme of all time.

Recently, I read about Project Eldest Son. To make it brief, it essentially involved US soldiers mixing dummy rounds along with actual rounds in clips corpses had on them so that when the VC scavenged for materials and used the dummy rounds, their gun was destroyed or rendered useless. It was used to weaken the trust of Chinese arms. I tried looking up online if Americans placed any other types of traps for the VC and NVA, but was unable to find much of anyting. Does anyone know if there were such traps? Pic semi-related.

I remember watching something about this on the History Channel before it turned garbage. A guy talked about rigging two magnet poles so that if somebody walked between them with a gun (or anything metal) it would cause a rather large explosion. He didn't give the impression that this sort of thing was common, but when it did happen, it was very brutal. The US also used lots of good-old-fashioned land-mines for area denial.....with some unfortunate mixed results, but its not like the Vietcong's traps were any better in that regard.
>>
Not Vietnam, but in the Philippines a particular CIA agent embedded with the AFP scared insurgents out of a territory by taking corpse and draining them of blood, to make insurgents think there were vampires in the area targeting them.
It worked. Really well.

I've been playing a lot of warhammer total war as Karl Franz. So what great leader in history is the most similar to Karl Franz? Great statesman, military leader as well as a patron of the arts and sciences. Defended and united the realm. I was thinking Charles Martel but what do you guys think?

Hey /his/, I stumbled across a piece of paper with words scribbled down on it while at college a couple days ago. I had asked a friend who spoke Portuguese if he could read it, and my father who speaks Spanish if he could read it, but they both said they could only pick up on small pieces. Some of the terminology and symbols used lead me to believe it's old Latin (Ex: the use of æ), and most likely just some notes a student took on something said in an old document probably related to the Catholic Church (Crusades maybe?)
Anyways, I'm just really curious and I know sources like Google Translate likely will butcher it, and I was curious if there was anyone here who mastered in the Latin language who could tell me what it exactly says (as in a complete translation) and if it's referring to any particular event.

Deum Verum

People have a terrible understanding of the difference between wealth and income. A person who works 60 hours a week for USD 100K annual income is poorer tha someone who has not to work at all and has assets that generate USD 40K annual income.

Totally agreed. There is so little emphasis on financial freedom that it's almost like people are encouraged to work like crazy to buy tons of stuff that don't even own (leased cars, mortgaged properties, etc.)

These threads are probably really common but I'm curious of what /his/ predicts for humanity's future. Will it be a Star Trek esk paradise where humanity has put its differences aside so they may pursue knowledge and understanding? Or will it be a Distopian society where authority figures control everything? Maybe we kill ourselves? Or become a slave race to alien invaders? What do you think will happen? And Why?
