Prove me this isn't the best WWI helmet.
Protip: you can't
>>1846868
Because it's the worst one
Stalhelm was the best, and Adrian is close second
>>1846868
It's a good balance of production cost, protection and weight, but it's ugly as all fuck.
>>1846916
I would say the Stalhelm was the second best.
>Adrian is close second

If you want a brief survey of Japanese history, it's not bad
Great book on the Three Emperors of WWI and their relationships and bios.
Is he the most underrated madman in history? In Twelve Caesars he pulls of tons of stunts but you only ever hear about Caligula, Nero and Commodus
>>1856794
Why are you making so many Tiberius threads?
who cares about that lecherous old fool, make a thread about an emperor that was actually interesting like Caracalla or Elagabalus
>>1856908
Civ 6. Tiberius.
The ruler should've been Nero.
>>1856794
he was actually a pretty underrated emperor for most of his reign, he did his job
he didn't start to lose it until later on
Was the North German Federation army actually effective compared to other 1860's armies (such as Britains or the U.S Union army) or was the French army just shit?
The joke about the British army is that if they landed in Germany, then the Germans would just arrest them. The British army was significantly smaller than its German counterparts, it certainly couldn't put a million men into the field within a few weeks or months of the war starting. ON the other hand, it didn't need to do so; it was shaped for different events.
The American army before and after the civil war was diminutive in size, during the civil war an argument could be made about its effectiveness of course.
The French army came the closest to matching the North German Army, and some changes could have meant it performed better. The Germans happened to hit upon the correct operational and tactical reforms, and had multiple wars where they gained experience and learned.
The french had better rifles, but the germans had better and more artillery

>Was the North German Federation army actually effective compared to other 1860's armies
Yes, it was pretty good compared to other big armies like the French, Austrian and Russian one
>such as Britains or the U.S Union army
Troll?
The British army was a piece of garbage barely good enough to machine gun spear wielding nignogs
Remind me again why The 30 Years War wasn't considered the first world war? It basically dragged in nearly every major country of the time and changed the shape of most first world countries.
>>1855928
It never left Europe and took place almost entirely in the HRE. There's no way that could possibly be stretched to count as a "world" war. At least WW1 had the Middle East Theater and all that shit in Africa.

So, Byzantines called themselves Romans until the very end, right?
At what point did these people stopped identifying as Romans and started to identify as Greeks?
>On 8 October 1912, during the First Balkan War, Lemnos became part of Greece. The Greek navy under Rear Admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis took it over without any casualties from the occupying Turkish Ottoman garrison, who were returned to Anatolia. Peter Charanis, born on the island in 1908 and later a professor of Byzantine history at Rutgers University recounts when the island was occupied and Greek soldiers were sent to the villages and stationed themselves in the public squares. Some of the children ran to see what Greek soldiers looked like. ‘‘What are you looking at?’’ one of them asked. ‘‘At Hellenes,’’ the children replied. ‘‘Are you not Hellenes yourselves?’’ a soldier retorted. ‘‘No, we are Romans." Thus was the most ancient national identity in all of history, preserved in isolation, finally absorbed and ended.

How did the USSR under Stalin go from being a backwards agrarian country into a technologically advanced, global superpower?
>>1855763
USSR wasn't that advanced. It was developed were unevenly. Achievements is some fields were more than outweighed by chronic underdevelopment in other.

Can someone give me the TL:DR summary what caused this war and why it lasted hundred years?

The Castilian Civil War did not last hundred of years.

And then we won the war.
How come Genghis Khan became a symbol for being a brutal genocidal "barbarian" although he had a couple of things that should make him "attractive" in modern/western eyes (meritocracy, relative religious freedom) ... while "ancient asians" in general have a good reputation although they are actually often more "brutal" from a modern Western point of view than Genghis Khan.
(Sorry for bad english, hope you understand what I ask)
>>1855437
Asians lived under him after his conquest, Europe only got stories from the Russians who fought them and we're tributaries. I think the Poles and some Germans fought them too?
>>1855437
well he was a genocidal barbarian , I don't think you can deny that fact
>>1855457
Everyone who had the power back then was genocidal and "barbarian" is a pejorative term that doesn't mean anything. It's over- and misused just as the term "fascist"
I think this would be the right board for this. I don't frequent /his/.
In an attempt to escape from the complexity of my everyday life and find greater inner stability I'm considering going off and spending some time at a monastery.
Only problem is I'm an atheist, and am trying to find some level of world-affirmation.
What kind of monasteries would be a good choice for me? I'm considering Hindu, Shinto, or Taoist. I've got no issue with some spirituality, but I'm more interested in the philosophy.
In addition to the actual type of monastery, what kind of duties are expected from those who stay there? I don't expect it to be like a resort. What kinds of work are required? Sweeping? Keeping the walls painted? Kitchen work? What would the bulk of my day consist of?
Are the kinds of monasteries who accept outsiders even kinds worth going to? Or are they a kind of tourist-trap for jaded white folks?
Thanks for any recommendations and clarifications.
>>1855401
I think you should pick whatever people you get along with.
I just want to say, what a dignified form of basementdwelling.
no one gives a fuck that you are becoming a monk
if you think Shinto is a "religion" that monks "practice", you aren't educated enough to be making decisions like this, so the first thing you should do is fuckin' read, nigga. Shinto is an animistic set of superstitions, with shrines that are upheld by people who literally spend their entire lives doing so. they don't want hippies fucking up their aesthetics and taking off after a year or two. Also, they are Japanese, and you are not, and in their eyes you don't have any business standing around in the core of their culture. furthermore, good luck finding taoist monestaries that aren't tourist traps.
second, you're not going to get accepted by any monestaries that don't accept outsiders so wondering about them is pointless.
I don't know why you aren't considering mainland buddhism, it's your best bet. regardless, it sounds like you just want a change of pace. just start hitchhiking, don't mess around with this stupid bullshit. put stuff in a backpack, grab a sleeping bag, go to an interstate onramp and stick your thumb in the air and just go and explore.

I do it in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare all the time but for the life of me, I don't think blocking downwards can stop stabs.
Can it?
Pic unrelated.
>>1855189
Knock your opponents sword off target.
>>1855189
you don't need to stop the weapon from touching you, just prevent it from striking you with enough force to cause damage
it's like, you take your weapon or shield or forearm brace, you push it against the side of their weapon as it's heading towards you, and you push it in the most convenient direction for you so that it doesn't hit you. it's super simple.
in fencing, a common introductory move is to stab someone simultaneously while parrying their stab.
