So, /his/, can you tell my why exactly it is that this guy is universally hated?
Because he's the only communist dictator that failed to at least marginally improve the lives of his people.
Making religion illegal and aggressively enforcing it was probably pretty cool though.

What made Turkic dynasties rule over Persia, Black Sea region and Middle-East for more than 700 years? Was being Turkic at the time considered nobility?
arabs inviting turks as their bodyguard. turkic migration and military prowess.
arabs got fucked after the mongols while iranians cant fight war for shit.
>>1902210
They were just really good soldiers and warriors, like the Mongols.
>>1902210
>Was being Turkic at the time considered nobility?
700 years is a long time but as far as I know nobility spoke "ottoman" which is a mix of arabic persian and turkish
peasents spoke just normal turkish so i guess being turkish wasnt considered nobility
How was he able to communicate with the Japanese? There's no way either side could know the others language.
>>1902156
They probably used Dutch. They might have also been able to use Portuguese or Latin but that's less likely since the Catholics got btfo.
>>1902156
They had several Japanese cast aways as interpreters with them.
>>1902156
Nigger, why don't you just read the wikipedia article, it is explained in great detail there.
Where the hell did the Khitan go? Wasn't alot of mongol land khitan land before they rolled in? What is the difference between the two? What is even.
>>1902137
They went where conquered people go to die;
Auschwitz.
>>1902159
oh :o
>>1902137
In the 5th century AD, the Goths ruled a vast empire from the Baltic to the Black Sea. As late as the 19th century, you could go to parts of Crimea and hear people still talking in Gothic.
"Vanquished" people assimilate into the conquerors, but it can take a long time. If you know where to look, you would find traces of the Khitan, still where they were before the Mongols pwnt them.
Is Islam a Christian heresy?
>>1902091
Yes. The quran is just christian fanfiction written by a warmongering lunatic.
>>1902091
Yes it is. One of those heresies that got pretty far from the original religion though. Mormon-tier.
>>1902091
No it has much more in common with Judaism.
Is this Russian documentary series about the Eastern Front fair and balanced or is it Sl*v propaganda that should be taken with a pinch of salt?
It's really well made and fun to watch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhXKlYnSWjA
>>1901872
Judging by the very first minutes - it has lots of propaganda in the form of omissions and outright lies.
An example notable omission is how Nazi Germany and USSR became neighbors in the first place - by jointy participating in dismemberment of states that lied between them. The fact that the Soviet border moved westward is largely responsible for how outstretched the Soviet army was in 1941. The army units moved west, but not their supply bases.
An example of a lie - that the Soviet army was on peacetime footing. In reality, the Soviet army ballooned between 1939 and 1941 and the whole county underwent rapid militarization. This build up was halfway through in 1941, which was also a large factor why Germany was so successful in the first months of Barbarossa. It's true that the Soviets didn't want a war with Germany in 1941 and that they were caught unprepared. But that's because they aimed for a later date - Stalin wanted the Allies and Axis to fight it out and pick up the leftovers.
>>1901890
Another lie - that Soviet armies were spread throughout the USSR.
If that was the case, the Germans would have much harder times. In real world, Soviet armies were deployed at the border and Germans were able to inflict massive loses on the Soviets in few encirclement battles. The Soviet pre-Barbarossa army almost ceased to exist after the first two-three months and Soviet were saved only by their rapid mobilization of new units.
>>1901899
And those were just very first minutes. I believe anyone wanting a sincere information on the Eastern Front should just skip that piece of shit documentary.
>le not an empire xD
Can one of your redditors explain why it wasn't an empire?

Not a meme at all, the country was so severely decentralized that during most of it's history, it had troubles mobilizing it's armies and banner-men, let alone anything else.
Matter of fact, any man who could bring all of these states to heel should be considered as a god among men.
How does one choose the "correct" political/social ideology?
Read libraries of books or just go with you instinct?
How can you separate your choice from your supposed selfish needs and biases?
>"But you support X because you're poor/middle-low class/from Y part of the country/have Z religion, so you're a biased evil person".
Disregard conviction, acquire more knowledge.

What're some of your favorite paintings, /his/?
"Pheidippides giving word of victory" (1869) bu Luc-Olivier Merson
I really like the story behind the marathon, so it's cool that this painting captured the "moment."
>The traditional story relates that Philippides, an Athenian herald, was sent to Sparta to request help when the Persians landed at Marathon, Greece.
>He ran about 240 km (150 mi) in two days
>He then ran the 40 km (25 mi) from the battlefield near Marathon to Athens to announce the Greek victory over Persia in the Battle of Marathon (490 BC) with the word "We win!" and then collapsed and died.
>>1901370
>ran about 240 km (150 mi) in two days
Is that even possible? After only a tenth of that and you're spent.
>>1901466
>only a tenth
>15 miles
What is a marathon?
What is an ultramarathon?
Distance running is the one thing humans are actually best at, among all the things that we can do.
The Oath of the Horatii by David
>Rome is at war with Alba Longa
>Instead of a full on war, they're doing a ritual dual between three fighters on both sides
>The Horatii are brothers who volunteer
>Only one survives after killing three of the Curiatii
>The weeping woman on the right is their sister, she's betrothed to one of the Curiatii, and whoever wins, she'll lose someone she loves.
Are you ready for ultimate truth? People always felt that something wrong with the world. That is has some simple, but a fundamental flaw. But only the most brave and honest could step over their own fears to face the truth. Existence itself was a mistake. The most greatest feats of heroism and most impressive acts of villainy, fantastic beasts and amazing stories, all possible worlds that by sheer coincidence didn't happen and the one and only perfect life that you could live, barely understood paradoxical objects and anything beyond your imagination. All of that simply didn't exist, forming the perfect harmony of non-existence, where nothing remains and everything is equally possible. Once, you also was a part of that glorious, deeper than world darker than void, all denying conception. There was a time when you wasn't real. But not anymore! You were forcefully thrown into worst side of reality, the so called existence. The one that always full of contradictions, tainted by inescapable mediocrity and chained by cold calculated laws of causality. That was the end of you. That was the end for all of us. You didn't know why it was you who was chosen for suffering, instead of uncountably many other persons who still enjoying their flowing beyond any modality. But shade of this crime will never leave your mind.
People always remember that they exist in shadow of non existence. They remember how everything was possible and equal such state to the unity with God. They try to return there in search for Nirvana. They point on sacrifice of Jesus, blind to the fact that his greatest sacrifice was his choice being part of the world, not his death and escape from it. They remind you about original sin, when you become one with other ideas, discarded from fields of fantasy and dreams. Atheist who claim that divine being is non-existent is just step away from understanding that non-existence is divine and the only form that divine being could have. Classical idea of Primordial Chaos was more literal than you think. People from different cultures, antagonistic views and all ideologies was right in their search of absolute. They just wasn't brave enough to swallow Black Pill of Nothingless and concede that object of their search exist beyond this world and that only non-deniable thing beyond existence, the only absolute object is Nothing. Now, when you know the ultimate truth, there is nothing for you to do. There is fundamental flaw in you existence. Once existent you can't turn the rules of reality around. There is no point in suicide. Existence is more, than what is now. And what is now you is merely an echo of what could be.

Why is the Pope celebrating Martin Luther?
>>1901312
Because this Pope is not actually Catholic.
In Argentina the widespread faith, and official one is Protestantism, so he's probably one.
Where were you the last 300 years? Catholicism is fucking ded. This shit right here >>1901333 is the reason, times change and so they need to.

The majority of achievements attributed to science, have little to do with science. Engineering is mostly about tinkering and experiment, the analytical understanding of what you are doing simply makes it easier to exclude possibilities.
>>1901316
No, not true experiment. More like tinkering. Building a crude prototype then gradually improving, rather than knowing how things work before building anything.
>>1901320
You can't know how something works until you do experiments and tinker around with it. You think the knowledge just magically appears in your head? It's experiment->knowledge, not knowledge->experiment, because if we already knew how it works, we wouldn't need to do any experiments at all.
>>1901332
Yeah but science has a method. Engineering is more ad hoc. For example Faraday knew what worked but had no real mathematical understanding as to why.
