I've gotten really sick of the 'communism is a great idea meme'.

I've also gotten even more sick of someone mentioning 'oh lol communism is a great idea, it just doesn't work because of human nature' every single time the fucking concept is mentioned. It's not a profound statement you stupid fucks, I've heard this dozens and dozens of times. If an idea about the structure of human relationships doesn't work because it's meant to be applied to HUMANS then it's a shit idea, end of story.

Also I get sick of the fetishization of east asian cultures as somehow super spiritual and more earthly than western traditions. Go drink cow piss to purify yourself with the brahmins. Fucking plebs.

I don't think there was a standardised ratio of anything considering that your army composition depended on your ability to muster whoever was available.

Hence you made do with whatever you had. If your new recruits could use a bow, were professional or militia archers or trappers, then good for them. If they could afford a suit of mail or a harness, then woo hoo. If they were nobility, of the professional warrior class or otherwise somehow equipped to be cavalrymen then that they were. You'd take what you could get and only implement a minimum of training.

I don't think military commanders had the time to train archers or riders on campagin considering how time consuming both forms of training are. The best you could do would probably be to regulate the local population in peace time such that certain forms of training were mandatory.

If anyone has hard evidence that proves me wrong, please, by all means.

Basic goods were available, but anything that was any better (and people always want things that are nicer) depended on connections or on your own ability to pull strings.

Cf. that one of the most prestigious jobs was to be the salesperson at a store. When things came in you could hide some of it under the counter then people would come in and trade favors, more money, or other goods for it when the basic supply inevitably ran out.

The higher you go, the worse it gets. Everything is for sale.

Change the political system as much as you want, but that attitude is going to remain for at least a generation or two before people find new ideals to believe in.
