What does /his/ think of Ken Burns? Is anyone on /his/ excited for his upcoming documentary on the Vietnam war?
>>3386510
it would be best if we forgot about Vietnam
>>3386524
Why?
>>3386510
Im pretty excited for it.
In this thread,we talk about historical things that contemporary people are most likely going to ruin forever next.
>>3386497
well we know it will be something in Europe or America , they arnt allowed to comment on cultures outside of their race
>nationality and age
>what do you actually do/study
>what books are you reading atm
>what period of history interests you and why
>share something from your knowledge
Obviously forbidden: ww2 plebians
>had to flee from older brother
>had to flee from younger brother
>imprisoned for over two decades
>castrated
>blinded
>assassinated by a guy who hid in the toilet and stabbed him in the ass with a spear when he went to take a shit at night
Is this the most cucked "ruler" the world has ever seen?
he was a good friend
>>3386302
hello, /pol/ack
Not THAT cucked, but still
>Boris II and Roman of Bulgaria
>brothers
>father leaves you with a nice big country
>got steamrolled from both Kievan Rus and the Byzantines
>spend years as prisoners in Constantinople
>Boris II gets his royal attributes removes publically
>Roman gets castrated
>try to run away
>Boris gets killed at the border because he's mistaken for a Byzantine
>Roman gets to "rule" just technically
Was miscegenation frowned upon during the Age of Discovery?
>>3386298
Mostly because if you brought your kids back they'd tend to stick out like a sore thumb, which is bad is societies which value conformity (AKA all societies).
>>3386298
Of course
they probably thought brown people were man ape monkey creatures
White males could impregnate zshitskin women and then go back home unburdened to have white babies with their wife
Men don't have to carry the baby and can have many children at the same time, that's why no one cares about them racemixing
Why did Islam have a split? Why does it still exist today? What has been done in the name of the split? Any suggested readings?
>>3386280
Because A) sunnis are dumb niggers B)Shia are idiosyncratic and C) totalitarian systems/societies don't handle conflicts of interest among the leadership well
>>3386280
Is this TV show accurate enough ?
>>3386164
Yes. Some plot lines are dramatized of course, but the essential arc of Pablo's Rise and Fall is detailed faithfully.
>tfw the enlightenment destroyed European civilization
>>3386104
Was the enlightenment even a real thing? Yeah, it was a movement in literature but did it have ANY real-world impact? Probably not.
>>3386104
It actually developed European civilization beyond all others.
The whole medieval Holy Roman Imperial Army vs 1 tank. Who wins?
>>3386047
the tank
>>3386047
Tank runs out of fuel, HRE wins
>>3386055
Tank soldiers inside would have pistols and ammunition. Tank wins.
anyone read the book?
was Reed wrong? did the soviets really suck?
He wasn't 'wrong' in his reporting on Lenin's coup and the Bolshevik takeover. His bias is pretty clearly in favor of the communist cause and the comintern in particular. In reality he became disillusioned with the revolution pretty quickly, like most of the American anarchists / progressives who'd initially supported it, but he was essentially a hostage of the regime.
Who was Germany's most valuable ally in ww2? Would Germany have been better off going solo?
Not Spain for sure.
>>3385831
Poland
Unironically Soviet Union
Why didn't the crusader states train their own mounted bowmen if light cavalry was such a necessity in the middle east?
I'm sure there's no race component to it. White boi can do archery as fine as anyone.
>>3385823
They hired mercenary horse archers called turkopoles
>>3385823
What >>3385829 said
There was literally shitloads of Christian Turks and Arabs to do that job.
Heck, forget Christians, Muslim mercenaries were G as well.
>>3385823
The societies of the east and in particular steppe cultures relied far more heavily on mounted archery than the peoples of the west. The men who utilized mounted archery tactics were often trained in horse riding and archery from an exceptionally young age. Hence, they were really good at it. It would be extremely difficult for a western society to try and emulate those cultural traditions, and even if they did, they wouldn't produce nearly as many skilled horse archers as the armies they would be fighting.
Like the other anons mentioned, it's far easier to just hire mercenaries.
I know that the kimono tradition continues from the Tang Dynasty.
Also, Japan is the only place where you can find Tang era architecture.
>>3385800
Modern Japan? They abandoned the Taika reform for a western institution, no Mandate of Heaven. Unrecognised by the Ancient Chinese as the Huaxia, and referred to as dwarf barbarians.
>>3385811
Chinese culture today including it's national dress comes from barbarian culture.
>>3385827
I'm being honest here, but I think China lost there culture to a certain extent. Their Ming traditions were completely wiped off by the Qing and Qing traditions were exterminated during the culutrual revolution. I feel as China today is a hallow husk of its former self.
> haha, anon, during witch trials, if a woman wouldn't drown they'd burn her at the stake. those wacky pre-modern people
Trial by ordeal was a thing
The majority of people accused of witchcraft would die in jail, either from torture/beatings or sickness
