Why does everyone virtue signal their hate against the Confederacy?
They weren't really that bad, yes they owned slaves but everybody else did also.
You never hear "Those damn Ottomans" or "That guy had a brazilian empire flag i cant believe it"

Well the Confederates did cause the deadliest war in US history when they decided to secede from the nation because they lost one presidential election.

I guess the 30 years prior where the Supreme Court ruled in the favor of slave owners to an absurd degree, and where the Congress bent over backwards to appease them on every slavery issue, wasn't good enough.

Why did Hitler choose him to succeed him?

It was either him or Goering.

He didn't, he chose Goebbels to succeed him, and Donitz to succeed him. Goebbels just killed himself after a day because he didn't want to get hanged by the Russians.

No, he chose Donitz to succeed him as President, and Goebbels to succeed him as Chancellor. When Goebbels' an heroed, Schwerin von Krosigk replaced him as Chancellor

I've recently came across a claim that ancient europeans hunter-gatherers hunted animals by wrestling.

Do any of you know anything about that?
Thanks.

I could see it happening. Persistence hunters are still a thing.

Chasing an animal until it collapses of exhaustion is one of the coolest things prehistoric humans did imo

This is what I came here to post. A more common method for an individual or pair to catch an animal was just chasing it until it collapsed of exhaustion then simply taking it back to the camp with them. This was definitely a better plan than wrestling an animal. Virtually no chance of sustaining an injury that couldn't be treated and could easily become life threatening

Help the French, duh. It's not about ideology, it's about not allowing one country to dominate, and France realistically can't beat Germany.

ou see, indexes as a means of measuring the approximate value of a basket of commodities that match the Fisherian 'real interest rate' make their way into early 20th century economics. You see the theory of indices as a measure of value was deprecated severely by Von Mises because of the innacurracy of measuring exactly how subjective valuations of individual commodities stacked together would move. So the index, in Von Mises' opinion, if employed at all, should be employed with extreme circumspection. Now tell me exactly why this inaccurate measure should make its way into the economic philosophy of Irving Fisher, who uses them to determine the definitive 'real interest rate', on which his 'money rate of interest' is based upon.

The idea of matching the progressing or regressing real income of individuals against a basket of commodities has been going on in economics since time immemorial. Since the days of Smith when he would essentially equate wages in gold to corn, whether paid in kind or not, to the days of Ricardo, when he renounced all methods of Smith as futile because grossly innacurate, and said that a matched basket of commodities would do better, has the concept of an 'index' been the subject of much debate. What should a basket of commodities be? Do you think the interest rate varies so much for different goods and for different goods having different covariations the concept of an index to determine the effect on wages and interest rates is, like Von Mises said, pointless?
The idea of matching subjectivity in individualist valuations in this sense versus an objective, clean stance of objective, nominal valuation seems obvious and even practical. The issue, no doubt, becomes a theoretical on, not one of practicality: are you willing to accept some variability of an individual's judgment for a valuation which becomes objectively valuable, or are you going to take a conservative approach to measuring average real costs of living and say that it is inconsequential because the central bank, as opposed to the value of money, is the facility that sets the rate of interest.
>>
This is brings us to another discussion entirely consisting of whether or not the unit of measurement and what is being utilized for money has a tremendous effect on the interest or not. My determination in this area is that whether you take Mises' or Fisher's approach to the interest rates, what comes out on top is ultimately theory and nothing more. For instance, the application of a central bank-of-issue approach to the Currency theory implies that you will derive a top down approach towards interest rate determinations, and deriving the interest rate from the amount of real interest applied to a basket of commodities plus the expected depreciation from the monetary unit implies an interest theory which is more determinative, that is dependent on subjective valuations of other goods matched against others in the first place. Ironically, it seems the second theory is more practical, but idyllic, since the Federal Reserve is ultimately who sets the interest rates. Theoretically, no matter how basic and fundamentally simplistic an idea this is, it must be respected in economic theory due to the effects the institutions who control the monetary supply might have.

>>
>>2046980
But if you have to "choose" between imperialism and nationalism, to be tha main reason? Which one? and why ?
>>
>>2047126
Imperialism.
Because nationalism of various Slavs was prompted by Russia. Because of the conflicting imperial interests of Russia and Austria in the Balkans since 1878 that re emerged with the dissolution of the league of 3 emperors.
Because the dynastic change in Serbia may or may not have been instigated by Russia, however there is no clear evidence, before this Serbia was an Austrian proxy, shortly after the dynastic change Austria, which was the destination for over 90% of Serbian exports embargoed Serbian goods (pork in particular).
Add German interests on the global stage.
Italy only entered the war for territory (which she was cheated out of by Slovenes, Croats and Serbs).
Because Austria created the Ukrainian national identity, and planned to put Ukraine under it's sphere of influence after Brest-Litovsk.
2 Moroccan and the Bosnian crisis

In short, nationalism was the tool of imperialism.

Why dont there seem to have been mercenaries in the Islamic world?

Who are the Kwarezmians?
>>
>>2046912
I don't know about the East in general, but Islam encourages Jihad fi Sabil-Allah, so it wasn't really necessary. Besides, mercenaries were reviled, fighting for the sake of wealth (fi Sabil al-Mal) was harshly criticized in the religion. If a caliph or Emir did something like this, it would be a sign of corruption and breaking God's commandments.

It's 1933. Comunists win elections in germany with majority of votes.
How would europe look like?
Would hitler start a civil war?
Would germany ally USSR?
How would other european countries react? Would they intervene?

For the KDP to win that means the votes must've been redistributed greatly, implying NSDA wasn't as strong as they were to even invoke a civil war

USSR managed to screw international relations with Yugoslavia and China, wouldn't be surprised if they did it with Germany too
>>
Soviet Union would invade germany until finally the United States invades Europe with the help of the english puts down the Soviet Union and destroys and installs Hitler as the fascist dictator of Europe and a cold war starts until fascist Europe collapses in 1991 and /pol/ is full of stalin worshipers and /leftypol/ is full of people saying fascism hasn't been tried
