One of the great mysteries of European history in my eyes is the complete reversal in character between the ancient Romans and medieval or modern Italians.

The Romans were very organised, disciplined, serious, rather stern and stoic, military-minded, cared little about family ties (they frequently adopted people unrelated to them or murdered their blood relatives), and were unusually ready to sacrifice themselves for the common good of their nation (as legionaries).

The Italians are just the opposite in all these respects. They are possibly the least organised Europeans, among the least disciplined. They are fun-loving hedonists. They have made terrible soldiers ever since the Middle Ages (Italians haven't won a single foreign battle in history, except in Libya and Ethiopia where their army far outnumbered the locals in number and fire power). Italians attach a lot of importance to family relations, and often place loyalty to family and friends above that of society or the whole nation. One of the main problems of modern Italy is tax fraud, because people don't feel enough solidarity with other Italians.

Nah, I think they're still roman, in some respects. Their traits simply do not translate well into the modern world.

A roman work day was very short and many romans just spend their entire day begging from patron to patron of some food/money. Not to mention they have feasts/holidays for everything. By modern standards, classical roman civilians are /lazy/. In our modern standards, their system of patronage, tax-collecting and other things are corrupt, the same way as Chinese Patronage and Bureaucracy.

The roman patricians also care about the family, whether it means lineage or not, and whether they're adopted or not. In fact, there is a big focus on surnames /because/ their family is a source of prestige, legitimacy and class. This carried over as various Italian families and even republics way after Rome fell and into the middle ages and the Renaissance, which was almost fueled by Patronage. If fact, you can see the resemblance of this carry-over to Mafia Families, and in which joining essentially adopts you to their family, with the GodFather acting as the old roman Pater Familia.

And as for fun-loving hedonists? Have you seen how hedonistic Romans can be?

So I'm a very socially conservative person and one day I was discussing homosexuality with my friend, when I said that Homosexuality is a learned trait, that it's not natural, so he told me that it was impossible to completely change your sexuality and that you are what you're born as and that if it were that easy they'd just switch back to heterosexuality. So I decided to prove to myself and him that you could "adopt" new sexualities by training.

I had my hand on my groin one day, just out of habit, when I was looking up Napoleon and a map of Europe in 1807. I opened it up in paint and edited it so France extended to the Rhine in the Netherlands. All the time I was doing this I was slowly stroking my penis, then faster, and I came to the Rhine borders. This was my first time.

After that I decided I was committed enough to this experiment to continue, so I edited bunch of pictures of France to have the Rhine border and solely masturbated to them. The issue was that I couldn't do it again, so I waited a day. Then I tried again. And whenever I couldn't cum to the Rhine borders I'd just try again the next day, only allowing myself to masturbate to this and this alone.

I didn't want to be "bisexual" so whenever I got a boner from a girl I'd flick myself in the balls. At this point I was cumming pretty quickly to the Rhine but the same few images were getting a bit stale so I devoted quite a bit of my free time to making sexier ones.

I decided this was stupid and that I couldn't tell my friend about this, so I delete d the images and went back to normal stuff. Only when I tried I couldn't get erect, I physically couldn't get it up to girls anymore.

A week later I was desperate for release but still couldn't get hard, if I tried to masturbate to women when I just got hard by accident (or by thinking of the rhine) I'd just go soft in my hand. So I bought a pretty expensive file retrieval program and got my France images back, and I can now only ejaculate to these.

What are the salient differences between Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholicism? Why did the Protestant Reformation occur in the part of the world under the reign of the Roman Catholic Church and not the Orthodoxy? Why are there so many ethnic variations of the Orthodox Church e.g. Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, etc.?

The primary difference is succession. The Pope in Rome is the sole Patriarch and absolute religious leader of all Catholics, whereas the Orthodox church still follows a system that developed from the Pentarchy, with the Patriarch of Constantinople as the most important living figure.

This is though if you're asking me if this image's point, in my opinion, is correct, my answer would be absolutely not. Yes, white people as a whole have made many mistakes as a people such as westward expansion, which is a great example of that, but did native Americans live in "harmony?" No. there was genocide war disease and fighting among all. Fuck this fact ignoring shit.

Two hypothetical situations, for both atheists and believers alike. I would like to know whether these two situations would change your minds, and if so or if not, why?

Situation 1
FOR BELIEVERS:
What if, some day in the near future, we were contacted by a hyper-advanced race of aliens. They have mastered technologies so advanced that to us they seem like gods. They reveal to us that the only way forward is to throw aside all religion and superstition, like they did.

FOR ATHEISTS/AGNOSTICS:
The same situation, only the hyper-advanced aliens reveal that they are an incredibly pious and religious race, that they believe in a God with a theology not unlike that of Christianity, and that they believe they have in fact proved his existence through their study of the very fabric of reality.

Situation 2
FOR BELIEVERS:
One day in the future, we have invented FTL travel and are exploring the universe at great speed. We discover, very rapidly, that the universe is in fact FILLED with life. Nearly every solar system we visit has at least one planet with advanced life on it, and every few solar systems have an intelligent, sapient species.

FOR ATHEISTS/AGNOSTICS:
We branch out into the universe only to discover... we really are alone. Out of billions and billions, possibly trillions, of solar systems surveyed, not one of them has life in them. Not so much as a single bacterium, or even an amino acid. We, as a planet, are truly alone in the Universe.

I'm very interested in hearing both sides of this. I imagine that for both, it would be an incredible test of faith.

>They reveal to us that the only way forward is to throw aside all religion and superstition, like they did.
I'd immediately ask to see their ethnographies of other civilizations. There's nothing stopping Gods from propaganda.

>The same situation, only the hyper-advanced aliens reveal that they are an incredibly pious and religious race, that they believe in a God with a theology not unlike that of Christianity, and that they believe they have in fact proved his existence through their study of the very fabric of reality.
I'd want to facilitate their research into not just Christianity but all claims of Attainment in history.

>One day in the future, we have invented FTL travel and are exploring the universe at great speed. We discover, very rapidly, that the universe is in fact FILLED with life. This is would not bother me in the slightest.

I'd be rather tweaked. I'd want to know why. This wouldn't immediately imply to me that any given religion's theism is valid.

What would it take for America to suffer another civil war? Will there ever be another issue as divisive as slavery? I can't imagine it. Maybe abolishing welfare might do it, but it's hard to find an issue with the same impact and scope as slavery, which was not only at the core of the south's economy but also their very society.

These are tensions, sure, but I don't see a war happening from it unless there's a real push from one side to permanently infringe upon the others. And I can't see that happening.
>>
>le civil war was caused by slavery
The Civil War was caused by lots of things, slavery was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

We're seeing a lot of that today, too. Though at this point, governments have consolidated so much power that it would take something more major than outlawing slavery in territories to be the deciding factor.

My guess would be something like globalists overthrowing a democratic election in favor of their personal agendas. Like if the electors picked Hillary instead of Trump, or if Parliament chose to stay in the EU rather than leave. Something like that.

The reason revolutions in the West don't really happen anymore is because they've gotten very subtle about their subversion. I mean, just look at Europe. People will tell you that they would rise up in revolt against their government if they ever censored their right to free speech, and yet it's happening all over the place. In many countries in Europe, "hate speech" is illegal. Talking shit about migrants or calling someone a nigger can land you jail time. Even asking the question about whether or not the Holocaust happened exactly as it is often taught can land you in prison or with a hefty fine. The governments over there are free to censor websites at their leisure if they deem them to be "hateful" or something along those lines. It's starting to happen in America too.

That's the problem with a lot of these laws that people vote in with the best intentions. Sure, censoring hateful rhetoric that incites violence, or banning people on terrorism watch lists from purchasing firearms seems great in practice. Until you realize that it's completely arbitrary, and that the government gets to decide those things without a day in court to prove that they're justified. Today, maybe they ban Muhammed whose uncle is in ISIS from buying an AR-15. Good idea, right? 10 years down the road you make a nasty comment about the gov't, and now you're on the same list.

The Bogomils are of much interest for me.

It is believed the Bogomils were offshoots of the Paulicians, after these were relocated to the European parts of the Byzantine Empire following the Byzantine-Paulician wars, in an attempt to strengthen the borders with the Bulgarians.

We actually don't know whether the Bogomils were an actual heretical group, or whether they were truly as prevalent/radical as the sources present: with the research being done, it is a possibility that the 'myth' of the Bogomil heretics was born due to the refusal of the Bosnian (Catholic) Church to accept a Hungarian bishop and temporal authority, as decreed by the Pope. This Bosnian Church would have been orthodox in its practices - essentially Catholic -, but its refusal to fall in line with Papal mandates meant it was marked as being "heretical".

But that's just one hypotheses: it is likely there WAS a Gnostic-inspired sect in Bosnia, along with the orthodox (Catholic) Bosnian Church, but that their radicalism and number of adherents was exaggerated.

Also, it is very likely the Bogomils influenced what would become the Cathars.

Hoped that helped.
