Was European imperialism neccessary to industrelice the world?

Couldn't non-europeans have gotten their technologies by traidng, like Japan?

Japan had a centralized goverment and tradition. Niggers didn't even reach the bronze age. How do you expect them to trade when they were not even capable of mining or grow crops?

I'm not just talking about Africa. India and some of south east asia had complex societies that could've traded with europe instead of being heavily taxed and in some cases starved just for a railroad.

So how do you say it correctly? I would say:

"I have facts and reason on my side"

There seemed to be a ton of Orthodox lads on the board not long ago, so if any of you are still around, please present solid arguments as to why I should look into the Eastern Churches as opposed to other forms of Christianity, namely the Roman Catholic Church.

Philosophical and Theological arguments are preferred; not >muh Catholicism is not Christian or >muh Pope is a cuck.

I converted to Eastern Orthodox aftr watching George do it on Seinfeld. I liked it up until 9/11 happened. Thats I became agnostic.

Why do you think they felt the need to have power over other people?
>>
>>2054483
power over other people is a useful thing to have
>>
>>2054483
Because they had alot of confidence, insecure people dont do the things the historical manlets did.

Could you recommend some good books on christianity and christian theology? What are the most important early christian works? What are the must-reads? (>inb4 the Bible) Or some novels written by christians that show their worldview? (I know about Dostoevsky and Lewis, but can you recommend any of their works?)

Also religion general thread. What do you believe in and why?

This documentary made me finally see that

1) Race doesn't matter;
2) Religion matters;
3) Fundamentalist, Bible-believing Evangelical Christianity is the true religion;
4) Judaism is the religion of the Anti-Christ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=typ2pl2L47k
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4532404/

In fact, there are only two races, Abraham's sons according to the spirit and the sons of Satan; only two nations, the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world; only two cities, heavenly Jerusalem and Babylon.

Discuss.

Are mystical experiences genuine or do we make them up? I had one the other day where I was completely sober laying in bed and began to feel like I was outside of my body and feeling the presence of God or some divine power. It felt good and I was self aware the whole time. I'm not sure I could have stopped it. It just gradually ended after about 30 seconds and I felt normal again.

Is there a rational explanation for these sort of weird spiritual occurences?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
there's a 'rational' explanation insofar as you feel the need to identify what you experienced as mystical, because that's what your culture tells you these kinds of things are. whatever you actually think it is is your call.
>>
>>2054329
What's the scientific reason for feeling this way though?

I was thinking back to almost 10 years ago when I was in the English class everyone has to take at my university, and my writing course about revolutions. I wrote a paper describing how the civil rights movement was a revolution. The sweaty overly nervous post-doc who taught our class said that it was not one. While it obviously didn't upend any governmental bodies or anything it lead to a very slow changing of social classes and power structures though there is still inequality in the US.

You're not supposed to be racist, anon.
>>
>>2053910
Per O'Neil's Essentials of Comparative Politics:

"Revolution is a public seizure of the state in order to overturn the existing government and regime. Unlike a coup d’état, where elites overthrow the government, the public plays a key role in a revolution. Revolutions often, but not always, involve violence."

Rome was the greatest republic though, no question

In regards to ancient Empires, absolutely.

Though I would say that the British Empire was pretty amazing

Legitimate question: Do you /his/tory buffs happen to think religion (in general) has caused more conflict (and war, and death, etc) then it has prevented or resolved? Do you think religion has had, ultimately, a net positive or net negative effect on humanity?

I was just wondering, and while all anecdotes I can think of point one direction, I figured I might swing by and ask people who'd probably know better.
32 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2053711
That's difficult to answer because you have to be familiar with the history of the entire world for all time
>>
>>2053711

>do you think religion has caused war

Yes.

>has it had a positive/ negative effect on humanity

debatable. Most western culture derives from Judeo Christian beliefs which has been a bench mark for western society in granting people rights and liberties, and as it progressed, and reformed so did the faith.

You can be a gay catholic in the west for example.

On the otherhand, if we're talking about religions like Islam, which has led to totalitarianism and Muslims advocating for its reformation, then it's certainly had a negative effect.
>>
>>2053718

For a completely and totally 100% accurate answer? Yes, undoubtedly.

But being more passingly familiar with history then I am can give an inherently more correct answer then just speaking out my ass. Knowing better, even if it's not knowing BEST, still sounds good to me.
