Out of the Seventh Day Adventists, Mormons, and the Jehova Witnesses, Which branch makes the most sense and is the least cultish?
>>2062688
>Seventh Day Adventists
>Cultish
What?
Mormons actually make a lot of sense, relative to other Christian sects (inb4 the obvious) it's very consistent more in tune with modern ideas about cosmology and philosophy. Not to mention there's about as much evidence for the exodus or whatever as there is for Native American Israelites.
The organization of it is cult as fuck though.
>>2062865
They don't believe in the trinity, and their founder claimed to have been another prophet, thus putting them at odds with most Christian sects.
I think i get Calvinists, they believe god is completely sovereign and decides everything including who gets to go to heaven and who goes to hell. i think i get Catholics and Orthodox who believe that god is all powerful but salvation doesn't mean anything if you didn't freely choose it so he decided to let us choose to be saved or not however he wants all of us to choose being saved. i don't get Lutherans they believe god is completely sovereign, wants us all to be saved but we are not all saved?
I think it's more or less the same thing as Calvinism + Jews automatically go to hell.
>>2062668
but then why do they believe god died for everyone and not just some people

How true is the "everything is a mental illness" meme of psychiatry?
We can virtually all agree that schizophrenia is a serious psychiatric disorder, even in times when there was little to no understanding of mental illness, we would still figure that schizophrenia isn't supposed to be. But how is being a sociopath an illness more than it is a trait? Sociopathy certainly has benefits in certain circumstances, being a sociopath could be beneficial during wartime, or if you're a surgeon. It's not hard to conceive how certain selective pressures could favor sociopathy.
But it's a "disorder" because of the normative views of psychiatrists and the public?
Are normative grounds the basis for what constitutes a psychiatric disorder? And this is called science?
The reasoning goes that in order to be a psychopath, there needs to be some sort of disorder or damage with your capacity to 'feel empathy' which is actually a pretty important thing for functioning in society.
>>2062507
That's stepping into politics, and thus subjectivity. The border between trait and disorder needs to be clear.

Okay /his/, how would this calendar match up to our current one if the new years day was on Halloween?
I'm reading a book right now that states that this was on a calendar in Bronze Age Sweden, so I tried matching it up with our current and I keep getting an extra day. I'll post my attempt in the next post.

Most people would agree it isn't ethical to torture a rabbit.
What if I create a perfect simulation of a rabbit, down to the quantom level, and torture it within the simulation. Why would that be any less ethical?
>>2062343
Is the simulation of consciousness any less real than actual consciousness?
what if you make a perfect simulation of a woman, down to the quantom level, and fuck it within the simulaton. Are you still a virgin?
>>2062353
yes you are eternally bounded to virginhood.

What the fuck
I don't get how that could even happen. Even if they were all medieval additions to the stories, why the fuck did they think they used them? Or how did they even know what they were?
Everyone wants to be like Big Poppa Roma.
When you see your Celt army slaughtered by a calvary charge, you realize that chariot equals power.
If you live on a far-flung rock and haven't invented the wheel, you just pretend all your great kings and warriors had golden rides.
>>2062053
the proto-indo-europeans had chariots. maybe the myths originated with them and were carried on by their descendants who didn't use them any more
>>2062525
Romans didn't use chariots, except in ceremonies. They were surprised to see Britons using them in battle long after they fell out of use on the continent.
>>2062558
No they didn't.
