This is the first public release of what I call the /his/ Compendium of Resources, a Google spreadsheets file on /his/-relevant resources.
Many of the resources have been gathered from threads on 4chan, as well as from affiliated people and their databases such as the early /his/ guide (RIP), the /lit/ wiki, scanlators from /a/, the /sci/ guide and more.

Anyone can participate by posting in these threads, using the comment function (you need to be logged into a Google account) or requesting edit permissions (for dedicated people).
Note that especially the sheets "Recommended Reading: Books", "Requests" and "Music" are still under construction, which is why the former has only historiography resources right now - but it isn't limited to that. The Philosophy section at the end, for example, will be expanded. I'm still trying to think of a better layout, though.
So, post away, if you have any recommendations in the following sections:
Recommended Readings (especially books)
Games
Manga & Comics
Film & TV
Podcasts
Music
Autodidacticism
...or other suggestions on how to improve the /his/ Compendium of Resources.
>games
>mangas
>podcasts
>no journals
>no encyclopedias
>no online bibliography/research tools
>no sources
Ugh now I know why the level of discussion here is so low...
For starters add: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/
Add the mandatory Cambridge and Oxford compendiums and Handbooks at least (like: https://www.cambridge.org/core/series/cambridge-ancient-history/010C506409EE858277F898C129759025) Those recommend reading lists are totally random.
Also you will never be able to finish this project without including thousands works which would render the project useless.

There's an amateur historian on Youtube who's pretty good.
>>2080262
>games
>mangas
>podcasts
They may not interest you, but they are very interesting to a 4chan audience. In fact, there's a podcast recommendation and a games recommendation thread here right now, and there frequently are. We can cut down on those by simply listing what might interest people that come here.
>no journals
Journals go in "Other Readings". The name may be a bit misleading.
>no encyclopedias
Encyclopediae go in "Other Readings". There also are three already.
>no online bibliography/research tools
Those go into the Programs & Add-Ons sheets.
>no sources
I don't understand what you mean there.
Could the Japanese have made better use of the Yamato, or was it completly useless ?
>>2080208
The age of the battleship was long over when they start using these in the pacific. the importance of aircraft carriers with their long range torpedo and dive bombers could destroy capital warships with ease and practically render them irrelevant in the battlefield. Also the Yamato had very inadequate anti-aircraft guns which made things even worse. The naval war in the pacific was about sinking and destroying each other's aircraft carrier not battleships.
>>2080237
So, how could the Japanese navy fare better than it did ? From what I understood, it was pretty good, and had a few advantages. But its intel was terrible and its codes were easily broken.
>>2080277
The IJN's ships suffered from the lack of radar and other advanced technologies fitted to the US ships at the time. It doesnt help that they also lost most of the aircraft carriers in the battle of midway which effectively sealed the fate of IJN. Also the IJN had no way to replace their losses as the americans can.
What does /his/ think about Miguel de Cervantes?
subscribe to his patreon
I fucking love Don Quijote, makes me proud to be a spic
Cervantes was the ultimate loser in his time.
>Go to Lepanto for glory and honor
>Get sick in the crucial moment
>Nevermind, fuck fever, I'm killing some kebab
>Get one hand disabled forever
>Get kidnapped by muslim pirates while traveling back to home
>Couldn't be rescued because family money wasn't enough
>Finally came back to Spain, let's get a job
>Tax collector
>Some money was missing so he finished in jail
>Tried to be famous writing theatre plays
>Everytime cucked by Lope de Vega
>Wrote El Quijote
>Book was so good it was pirated by everybody
>Copyright didn't exist so piracy made Cervantes to not win any money
>Second Quijote book appeared, it was a success
>But it was written by Lope de Vega (disguised as Avellaneda). Book was full of insults to Cervantes
>Butthurted, Cervantes wrote second part
>It was so good it was pirated. Again.
>Cervantes dies poor
>Meanwhile Lope de Vega continues being rich, with so many lovers and being the idol of Madrid
Today I found out that Russians are still butthurt about Napoleon
What the fucking hell, how can you unironically be butthurt about a war that happened 200 years ago and that you won at the end?
Sure Nappy humiliated the Russians for a decade, but they won eventually, so why the buttpain?
Can't believe these faggots call us "butthurt belt" because we're still mad at what they did to us a few decades ago while they themselves are butthurt about stuff that happened centuries ago
Historical myths influence contemporary culture.
Whoda thunk it

>What the fucking hell, how can you unironically be butthurt about a war that happened 200 years ago and that you won at the end?
But Russian history started in 1917.
>Napoleon was a coward
>Tsar Alexander was very brave
Is it opposite day?
Where was the brave tsar when Friedland and Borodino were fought?
How effective would the tactics and soldiers of Rhodock be in the Middle Ages (vs france and co)?

Stop having a nice head on your shoulders.

About as well as the Swiss did.
>Martin Luther
>Martin Luther King jr.

What's with people named "Luther" ruining society?
If you smell shit everywhere you go, check your shoes and go back to /pol/

MLK helped stabilize race relations for decades until the war on drugs fucked it all up. Do you want niggers chimping out in gangs because they get treated like shit or actually working and thinking they're equal?
What Christian denomination would Jesus most likely belong to if he was still alive today?
The Quakers
He was what we call a 'muslim'

None, he'd be a jew. Not in Pauls fake religion for gentiles.

Why there were no commandos in the middle ages? People were too retarded to realise capturing intel and fucking with supply lines is a good idea? No wonder they used swords and axes (worst weapons in history) unironically.
>>2079250
A lack of explosives would make disruption of lines by a small group much more difficult
>>2079256
Then just use fire lmao.
>>2079250
But there were
We have written evidence of them being used as far back as the siege of Troy
What nation's history is your favorite? Why do you like that history so much?
I am mesmerized by American History. The god-like status of the founding fathers, the battle for freedom, such awesome tales from early America. Civil war was badass too.
>>2079107
I am mesmerized by French History. The divine right to rule of the French Kings, the battle for the Revolution, such awesome tales from Western Francia. Civil wars were kickass too.
i feel bad liking others' history. but i'm not proud of my history either
>>2079107
Do you by any chance come from the USA?
Is there a way to completely stop caring and never getting affected by bad things.
Yea. It's called man up.
Yes.
Why did he invade Kuwait? Was it not apparent that he would get his shit kicked in?
something something the department of state said they wouldn't care if he did something something bush administration changed their minds because something something bin Laden was planning to station his troops in KSA
>>2078838
because in the previous year he had spent over 40% of his GDP on the military and he couldn't just let it sit there. Also the Iran-Iraq war had shown that Iraq's extremely narrow access to the persian gulf was vulnerable to being cut off. Kuwait was rich as fuck and could expand Iraq's coastline significantly.
He also had gotten mixed signals from the state department since he was buying tons and tons of weapons from the good ol' USA. They didn't care when he fought a war that was blatantly expansionistic against Iran, why would Kuwait be any different, who even cares about Kuwait why is it even a country?
>>2078838
He also chose Kuwait in particular because they were carved out as a British protectorate, so it scored him imperialist points.
Also, there was some evidence, which Saddam found very convincing, to suggest that the Kuwaitis were slant drilling near the border, meaning that they were taking Iraqi oil. For a country just recovering from war and totally dependent on oil revenues, that was a big fucking deal.
How did he survive 1905?
A loyal army
>>2078537
-The quality of life in the Western heart of the empire was not effected harshly
-He had not destroyed the heart and soul of his army and had it replaced with conscripts
>>2078537
Stolypin pretty much ran the country back then and Nicky did absolutely nothing.
