Could anyone outline some key differences and similarities (or provide some reading sources) between the German & British empires at the beginning of the 20th century? I'm curious about political, economical, and social aspects.

I find it interesting how two related nations- one continental one maritime, domintated their said space in the world. Also the fact that they were both Protestant, the hot beds of industrial advancement (bar america) & have the characterized personas of "stiff upper lips" & "no nonsense".

Even today there is no denying their economical and industrial dominance in Europe

The historian Waqidi writes that after the battle of Battle of Maraj-al-Debaj, Emperor Heraclius sent an ambassador to ask Khalid to return his daughter. The ambassador gave Khalid the letter from the Emperor which read as follows:[128]
“ 'I have come to know what you have done to my army. You have killed my son-in-law and captured my daughter. You have won and got away safely. I now ask you for my daughter. Either return her to me on payment of ransom or give her to me as a gift, for honour is a strong element in your character. ”
Khalid said to the ambassador:
“ Take her as a gift, there shall be no ransom. ”

Italy produced the Renaissance because of high urbanisation, economic prosperity, Greco-Roman heritage and competition between city states, which also produced war. War didn't cause the Renaissance, but a lot of what caused the Renaissance also caused war. War can drive innovation or stunt it depending on the circumstances. The US eclipsed Europe in the 20th century largely because they were untouched by it.

Switzerland was just tiny mountain nothing land.

The cuckoo clock does not hail from Switzerland. While it is most often associated with the Black Forest region in south-western Germany, its true origin is not completely clear but assumed to be somewhere in either Bavaria, Saxony or Bohemia.

Why do people undermine or otherwise never talk about mindfulness in Stirner's philosophy?
People talk about "the creative nothing" like it can be achieved overnight by calling everything a spook or only use Stirner's ideas when it suits them, while ultimately being spooked themselves and turning the concept of "spooks" into a spook.
In my mind egoism explored the self in a very similar way to anatta, but uses that knowledge for the opposite means of indulging in or enhancing the self.

Stirner is Nietzsche for babies.
>>
>>2096075
I believe the efforts required to achieve the philosophical ideals of both Stirner and Nietzsche are equal but people simply dismiss them in Stirners case because memes are funny, creating and perpetuating this opinion.
>>
>>2096069
Stirner has been reduced to a meme.

Although I find a lot of them funny, and they did introduce me to him, he isn't taken seriously despite having a lot of good shit to say.

I find his idea that the self is an end point of language pretty interesting.

I
pirated
ultimate general civil war and its pretty gud even for early access. However its fucking ridiculous how the rebel infantry brigades will get like 500 more men than your north ones. The enemy always outnumbers you, even if hisotrically you should outnumber them drastically. AI is pretty competent though and Shiloh, Gaines' Mill and Malever Hill were really tough for me and there were a few instances were my line was on the brink of total rout.

Did aliens help humans build civilization?

Yes. It's literally in Genesis. The reptilians fed the ape people "apples" that made them smarter. They're not even trying to hide it.
>>
>>2095870
>aliens
Not in the traditional sense. The "aliens" are very much of Earth origin. They are just underground, hiding until the atmosphere is more supportive of their species again. They like high CO2 concentrations and heat, lots of heat (cold blooded). They are part of the same evolutionary branch as dragons which, yes, still exist but even deeper underground in the layer between the crust and mantle (they really like the heat and can survive indefinitely at high temperatures with little to no food source). When the next major volcanic eruption goes off and covers the skies with cloud, they'll come out to rein. Eventually the extreme heats associated with the CO2 and cloud insulator will lead to another major ice age, and the cycle will start over.

I know that several Chinese post on this board, so I want to ask you guys something: where does your "China has 5000 years of history" meme come from?

If we define "prehistory" as anything prior to the invention of writing, then Chinese history begins around 1500 BC since that's when Chinese writing (in the form of oracle bones) first appeared. That means Chinese has roughly 3500 years of history.

However if we go by traditional Chinese historiography which defines Chinese history as beginning with the Xia Dynasty (even though there's no firm proof yet that the Xia Dynasty existed), then the Xia Dynasty began in 2070 BC according to the Xia–Shang–Zhou Chronology Project that was commissioned by the PRC. That's still only roughly 4100 years of history though.

So where does this "5000 years" figure come from? Did you just decide to round up?

Your picture explains why, Sima Qian made that claim.

My parents told me it was anywhere from 2000 - 4000 years. I'd honestly put it at ~3000. Westerners like to poke fun at Chinese for saying 5000 years of history but I've never heard it when growing up. Maybe some of the hardline nationalists believe it.

>Westerners like to poke fun at Chinese for saying 5000 years of history but I've never heard it when growing up.

We poke fun at it because any foreigner who has lived in China could tell you that they've had Chinese matter-of-factly tell them "China has 5000 years of history" numerous times. And since I'm American, Chinese usually tell me this in a way that implies US history is pathetic for only being 240 years old.

>for some reason, tickets are nearly impossible to get

>finally my day comes
>I notice something's wrong as soon as I walk through the doors
>I don't see any of the regulars
>theater is full of youngsters
>they're all wearing plaid shirts and have patchy facial hair
>overhear some of the whippersnappers talking
>"I think it's so great that the story of America will no longer be dominated by white men, but by a diverse group of actors of all races and genders"

>show begins
>a colored person walks out onstage
>starts some sort of African tribal chant
>if I listen hard enough I can make out some of the words
>figure this part is the slaves telling the story
>then some young Latin gentlemen comes out
"My name is Alexander Hamilton"
>I'm very confused
>the little brats next to me are all chanting along
>another colored actor declares himself to be Aaron Burr
>three songs in and I can't take it
>struggle to pull myself up with my walker

It's not like the good old days, I tell you that.
