Why did no martial art, either Eastern or Western, use an uspidedown stool as a defensive weapon?
I've been training privately, and by holding the two legs closest to myself I am confident I could block any sword strike to myself, even from a trained night
Pic related, except my stool has metal legs and a leather seat
>>2099681
It's very unwieldy. you'd have to drop it on the ground to go on the offensive, unless you jsut wanted to start clubbing someone with it.
a samurai would hit your stool out of the way and then cut you

Why are concept such as surveillance creep and function creep accepted as inevitables but "slippery slope" is a fallacy?
>>2099656
"Slippery slope" is a logical fallacy in argumentation because you can't predict the future. It very well might turn out that your slippery scenario comes to pass, but when you're crafting logical arguments, you can't rely on your intuition about what might happen in the future
>>2099731
Duly noted thanks
slippery slope is not a logical fallacy
if there is a sequence, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
is it "slippery slope" or just reason and evidence applied to predict 10 is next?
Why people think it is immoral to do experiments on humans for medical purposes. If they could develop a cure faster then it is legitimate. It is killing people but in a time where you dont have cure the more people are dying. So isn't it better to sacrifice few to save many?
Pic unrelated
>>2099548
I've always advocated using prisoners guilty of heinous crimes (torture-murder) as fodder for medical science. Also anyone getting the death penalty should just be harvested for their organs. One mans death can save many from the same fate. It really feel like justice in my vindictive mind.
Would it be right to kill you to harvest your organs to save 5 people?

There is no theory of nationalism that describes the origination of national identities across cultures. (Britain and France as opposed to Lebanese and Syrians, for instance.)

Is depression more common today than throughout history?
That's an insanely difficult question to answer.
Best you could hope for is some DSM survey data since the 70s or something, which is basically going to be meaningless.
>>2098992
Okay then I'll rephrase it. Did people have some vague idea of it apart from the victim simply feeling sad? Are there any historical accounts of people suffering what appears to be a deep melancholy without what seems to be any particular reason?
>>2098992
DSM definition of depression in the 1970s is likely to be beefed up by people feeling distressed by 'disorders' that were only 'discovered' in later editions.
I think a qualitative look is the best you can hope for - I can recommend Faber's Book of Madness as an overview.
> The most influential of the Greek writers and intellectuals was Rigas Feraios. Deeply influenced by the French Revolution, Rigas was the first who conceived and organized a comprehensive national movement aiming at the liberation of all Balkan nations—including the Turks of the region—and the creation of a "Balkan Republic". Arrested by AUSTRIAN officials in Trieste in 1797, he was handed over to Ottoman officials and transported to Belgrade along with his co-conspirators. All of them were strangled to death in June 1798 and their bodies were dumped in the Danube.

> le Habsburg "Defender of the Faith" meme

Political has always been more about maintaining power than standing for principles. I'm sure the ottomans and Austrians had an understanding about things like this.
>>2098846
>influenced by the French Revolution
That's the key point, not Christianity and Islam. The Austrian didn't want to have another enlightement revolution on their fucking doorstep, they were a reactionary monarchy deeply opposed to this shit.
He was literally a Napoleon's agent who published revolutionary shit smack in the middle of Austria and the Austrian officials captured him when he was trying to meet Napoleon in Italy. Then they handed him to the Ottomans because he was their subject by law.

This doesn't address how much each church has evolved. Protestantism was born much later on but it can be closer to original Christianity than the Assyrian Church. Not that I am saying that it is, but food for thought.
