Were England and France fundamentally similar?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Similarities
>Unending rivalry still going today
>Both hate germans and tolerate americans
>Both have similar cultural heritage, France is more catholic though
>Both were once great superpowers
>Both have made huge strides in sciences and medicine
>Both are genetically similar

Differences
>France is a republic founded on liberalism
>Britain is a monarchy based in tradition
>France has hosted more philosophers and artists
>Britain has pushed technology further
>France is on the whole slightly less industrial and more agricultural
>France has an focus on their land army
>Britain has a focus on its navu
>France has been a major player in Europe for the past 1000 years
>Britain has only been a major player since the mid 1700's
>Britain has more linguistic ties to Germany
>France has cultural ties to Spain

They're less similar, more like 2 sides of the same coin.

France and Spain are similar, Britain and Germany are similar.

"Baron Roman Nikolai Maximilian von Ungern-Sternberg is what you would get if you crossed Vlad the Impaler, Genghis Khan, Hitler, Stalin, Kali-Ma and goddamned Christopher Walken from Sleepy Hollow all up into one dude with access to automatic weapons, high explosives, a horde of psychotic Mongol warriors, then had him blessed by the fucking Dalai Lama to be the physical incarnation of the Tibetan Blood God of Vengeance. In the “Mad Baron”s six months humping sanity to death, massacring communists and fist fighting wolves (literally fist fighting wolves) in the steppes of Central Asia as the self-proclaimed heir to Genghis Khan, Maximilian von Ungern-Sternberg cleaved himself a blood-soaked reputation so horrific, brutal, and out-of-his-gourd fucking insane that it can only truly be classified as SPOOKY HALLOWEEN SHIT."

If the Free Territory in Ukraine or revolutionary Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War are considered exemples of true communism or anarchism because the warlords that controlled them were self-proclaimed anarcho-communists, why can't the territoriy ruled by Ungern-Sternberg be considered the legitimate successor state to the Mongol Empire? After all, he was a self-proclaimed heir to Genghis Khan...

His real claim to fame was Fallujah, probably one of the few instances where the Muj was without a doubt BTFO.

It just showed that he knew how to handle a insurgency with the right resources and managed to lead his Marines and supporting Army units to wrek the Muj without causing a majir political shitstorm.

Plus I heard he carries the Meditations od Aurelius everywhere he goes in combat

We would have turned around and went directly to war with the Soviets while they were weak to avoid a potential war later on. Fearful of the Soviets later having the destructive power of the bomb, wise to the authoritarian expansionist nature of the Soviets and pressured by a both parties for being potentially too sympathetic to Communism, Wallace would have tried to secure complete American hegemony. It would almost be like Kennedy being encouraged to be particularly strong against the Soviets like in the Bay of Pigs to avoid being seen as weak.

With Stalin sending forces against Japan, Wallace would have engaged us in a race to subdue the Japanese with the bomb, but stoking fears of a communist invasion of the island to demand that they reorganize their armed forces under American vassalage to invade the Soviets on the eastern front. Meanwhile, in Europe, allied forces would take a very brief time to organize and prepare for a blitzkrieg through eastern Europe, lend-lease program to the Soviets and damaging their supply. Naval and Air superiority would be used to damage weakly secured supply lines in eastern Europe and land troops from the Baltic and Black sea, quickly encircling Soviet forces and liberating eastern European nations along the way, none too pleased with the idea of being ruled by Soviet overlords. By the time war is declared and the Allies nearly push the Soviets beyond the baltics, Japan and the Allies on the Pacific theatre will be prepared to open a new front in the war, beginning a long march through Russian territory.

During the war, Wallace would use the distraction and the hardline on communism as a pretext to pass more social reforms. Wallace would also begin drafting plans to dismantle the perceived menace of the old colonial empires which he blames as partially responsible for both World Wars.

In Orthodox Judaism it is taught one does not need to convert to Judaism to be saved but as long as they subscribe to the Seven Laws of Noah divinely revealed in the Torah (first five books of the Jewish Bible) they will be considered Righteous Gentiles and have a place in the World to Come.

The Seven Noahide Laws are:

1. Do not deny G-d.
2. Do not blaspheme G-d.
3. Do not murder.
4. Do not engage in illicit sexual relations.
5. Do not steal.
6. Do not eat from a live animal.
7. Establish courts/legal system to ensure obedience to the law.

What are /his/ thoughts on this?

Here are some elaborations on each of the Seven Laws:

1. Acknowledge that there is only one G‑d who is Infinite and Supreme above all things. Do not replace that Supreme Being with finite idols, be it yourself, or other beings. This command includes such acts as prayer, study and meditation. The prohibition of idolatry provides that the non-Jew does not have to "know G-d" but must disregard false gods. This law refers only to actual idolatrous acts but, unlike Jews, Noachides are not required to suffer martyrdom rather than break this law. They are, however, required to choose martyrdom over murder. The Tosefta (Av. Zar. 8:6) records four possible additional prohibitions against: (1) drinking the blood of a living animal; (2) emasculation; (3) sorcery; and (4) all magical practices listed in Deuteronomy 18:10–11. Genesis 2:16 states: “And L-rd G-d commanded to the man, saying…” This Divine command to Adam implies that only the One True G-d, the Creator of the spiritual and physical realms, should be obeyed and honored as the Deity, and the greatest honor is to serve and worship Him. Thus, one should serve and worship only the One True G-d, and not any idol. The Oral Torah (Tractate Sanhedrin, ch. 7) explains how all of these 7 Noahide Commandments are encoded within the Hebrew text of the verse Genesis 2:16: “And L-rd G-d commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat.’”

2. Respect the Creator. As frustrated and angry as you may be, do not vent it by cursing your Maker. Leviticus 24:10-17 relates the incident of a Jew who violated the injunction of Exodus 22:27 and blasphemed in anger. Moreover, it states in Leviticus 24:15, “ish ish” (any man) who curses his G-d shall bear his sin.” Why the double expression of “ish ish” (literally: “a man, a man”)? To include all mankind, Jews and Gentiles. This demonstrates that blasphemy thus is prohibited to Gentiles even as it is for Jews.

3. Respect human life. Every human being is an entire world. To save a life is to save that entire world. To destroy a life is to destroy an entire world. To help others live is a corollary of this principle. The edict against murder, and the punishment for this transgression, is stated in Genesis 9:6: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, among man, his blood shall be shed; for in the image of G-d He made man.”

4. Respect the institution of marriage. Marriage is a most Divine act. The marriage of a man and a woman is a reflection of the oneness of G‑d and His creation. Disloyalty in marriage is an assault on that oneness. Five of the six types of relations that are forbidden by G-d to Gentiles are covered in Genesis 2:24: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” This verse explicitly forbids relations with one’s mother, with a woman who has ever been his father’s domestic partner or certified wife, with a woman who is currently a domestic partner or certified wife of another man, with another male, or with an animal. A Gentile is also forbidden to have relations with his maternal sister, which is learned from Gen. 20:13: “Moreover, she is indeed my sister, my father’s daughter, though not my mother’s daughter; and she became my wife.” (Note that Abraham said this to appease Abimelech. It was actually only figuratively true in his case, since Sarah was the daughter of Abraham’s brother. So they had the same paternal grandfather, who people often referred to as “father.”)

I'm reading a book on Caesar at the moment, and it presents him as a reformer who was highly beneficial for the more improvished members of Roman society, as opposed to the nobiles who were acting purely in selfish and profit-driven interests.

How accurate is this?

It WAS a bad idea for Japan to attack America and other Western powers in the Pacific, right? Recently I've seen people claiming "muh oil, muh oil" to justify that the attack was necessary.
I know that Japan's plan was to wipe out the US fleet out in one major battle, which would result in the US ask for a peace treaty, but that wasn't a good plan, right?

>I know that Japan's plan was to wipe out the US fleet out in one major battle, which would result in the US ask for a peace treaty, but that wasn't a good plan, right?

Not exactly. The entirety of the fleet, even the Pacific fleet, wasn't in Pearl Harbor. Rather, the plan was to knock down the fleet enough that Japan would have a free hand in the Pacific for about 6 months to a year, at which point they could have dug in a long, deep, island defense, which they assumed (wrongly) that America wouldn't be willing to invest the time and energy to overcome.
>>
>>2169858
right.
but, again, wasn't this a flawed plan?
From my understanding, Japan only attacked the Western powers at that point because their advances in China were stalling. Japan had tried to invade Russia, but that also failed.
It seems that Japan's solution for failing military advances and a shortage of resources was to open up multiple fronts against multiple military powers.
Am i wrong in saying this was a poor plan, or am I oversimplifying the situation?

Was he /ourguy/?
>overthrew king that did nothing but smoke dope all day in a peaceful revolution
>established the Republic of Afghanistan
>allowed the country to be secular, peaceful and prosperous
>took up arms and defended his entire family against hordes of communist revolutionaries who eventually broke in and slaughtered everyone
Afghanistan was basically a first world/western country back in the day, the kingdom (1926-1973) was rather successful and things were really great in the republic (1973-1978). It was so safe that there were tons of American hippies traveling the countryside for vacations and such. The reason Afghanistan is considered basically the worst country on earth now (and rightfully so) is because after the communists took over in the Saur Revolution and killed /ourguy/ they handed power to the soviets a year later. From there they lost power in a few short years to the Islamists who were previously kept in check by the king and president. Once religious fundamentalists get ahold of your country (post-communist might I add, as well as with a population easily persuaded by public opinion) you can fill in the gaps. Then the US invaded in 2001 and it's basically unsalvageable now.

Ah, how things could've been..
