What if we are actually alone in the universe? What if mathematics fail us and there isn't actually any other life forms anywhere else?

Don't you think that revelation would have far bigger philosophical implications even than not being the only ones?

Nah it's fine.
If there were other intelligent life forms they'd be much more likely to want to exterminate us than befriend us.
>>
>>2202673
Well, from an imperialistic standpoint. It would be great, means we would have free way to conquer and exploit literally the entire universe.

But it would also mean that this small piece of rock in the middle of bumfuckingstan and only this small piece of rock somehow gave birth to a freak chemical combination that is capable of sapience.
Even disregarding filosophy and espirituality, it would defy mathematical probability.
>>
>>2202693
I don't think anyone ever seriously calculated the probability of a planet to generate life, and then subsequently intelligent life.
I mean, our own planet only ever generated one species like that, discounting other primitive men.

Okay, I give.

Mr. Dandalo, I give. I've only just realized that this whole Byzaboo thing I've been nursing since those glorious summers as a 14-17 year old playing CrusaderKangzToo has spiraled out of control. What began as simply a reflexive glee spurred by feeling myself possessor of some esoteric knowledge ("Well, most people don't actually know that the Roman Embire dint even fall until 1453 [or was it 1204???]...), is now a gross sublimation of something all the more sinister. Now, now this reflexive cringe and whinge -- dare I admit, trigger -- whenever anyone as much mentions Manzikert or Mehmed or even your very own Fourth, Mr. Dandalo, now I know that it is merely a stand-in, a convenient formula of metaphor and synapse by which I can subconsciously give shape to a number of ills and self-loaths I never even knew were there.

Don't you see Mr. Dandalo? I want to thank you! Thank you and all your blessed four-score and teen years of existence for collecting one final debt. That which I owe to myself. For you see, I was never reaally in love with the Byzantines. Few are, at least, not those of us who attach so much emotion to something of the past. Instead, I used that faded codicil of the good ol' Imperium as a cypher for regret, to sublimate all my own past mistakes, regrets, and poor decisions. The idea of the wrecked empire, Mr. Dandalo, was nothing ever more than my finally peering down from the mouse -- or even, up at a mirror -- and not being able to help but notice the degradation of flesh, that waste that the silent hours have long since stolen from me. Oh don't get me wrong Mr. Dandalo, this isn't a bitter realization, no! This is a jubilant one, for you see, we all feel regret, we can't help it. I'm sure you carried your own all those years after personally witnessing the fruits of your labor wrecked by Byzantine agency.
>>
>>2202701

Yes, we all carry regret, path not taken and all that. I'm just glad that now, I can do something about it. Now that its out in the open, and no longer being subsumed as 'utterly' futile butthurt, NOW I can go out and seize hold of what years I have left (that I may have have of yours total more). Thank you Mr. Dandalo. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I bet that holy cross splintered up did wonders for all those Italian and French churches, and I'm sure that French whore sung wonderfully on the Patriarch's throne, and if it weren't for you, I bet the Quadriga would have long since been a Turkish cannon, killing many a Hungarian or Armenian. Thank you, THANK YOU Mr. Dandalo. What's that? You want to see if that little Ancona under your manskirt can still feel a tickle? Well Mr. Dandalo, if you insist! Please me to please you! Haha! Yes! [gargling down your spire of St. Mark]. Oh Mr. Dandal-OH!

>what caused it to fall apart?

France ended their european dominance at Rocroi in 1643
After that they were a minor player in Europe and then Napoleon's invasion finished them off
Seeing their master conquered by its neighbour made Spanish colonies cease to respect Spain and revolt

How accurate was this show prediction of after effect of Axis winning the world war?
41 posts and 4 images submitted.

It would presumably be a nightmare of constant partisan activity leading to eventual state failure.
>>
>>2201976
Pretty accurate. The only realistic ending is when Hitler dies and the Reich tears itself apart for leaders vying for control. Nazism will stay, but there will be a Nazi France, Nazi Britain, Nazi America, etc.

Because it is a very basic idea. Yeah, you want personal pleasure and to minimize any discomfort that befalls you.
And you want the same for everyone else.
And that's when individual peculiarities and desires conflict and you have created an egotistical dystopia.
You can't please everyone and yourself at the same time because what is pleasurable and good is subjective and dependent on the individual.

While watching documentaries on these topics I stumbled on a particular comment made by some poster.

It captured my attention because its not the first time I've heard it. Althought, it has never fully convinced me for the two very valid reasons that I am not as informed as I would like to be and, most of the times, the people who have said it don't prove to be the most rational of individuals / tend to be incredibly biased or as uninformed as me.

Wishing to clear any doubts, I was hoping anybody could shed some lights on what these claims mean and their validity.

Said man said, referring to the events that led to the dead of Tsar Nicholas II and the subsequent downfall of the old regime:

>''This was all done because of the Rothchilds. They're leaving a lot out....and a lot of this is not true''

When he said those last two lines, I am wondering what he really meant.

Documentary referenced the life of the Tsar. The repression of civilians and peasants. The influence of Rasputin on Alexandra. The unrest brought by the huge losses on the Eastern front during WW1. And the poor decisions on behalf of the monarchs which eventually led to the events of February and the abdication of the Tsar in March 2, 1917.

I wonder then, what is ''not true'' of all of this. And what is it that they are ''leaving out''.

Explain me the nature of such comment please.

Please respond.

The documentary in question is ''Russia's Last Tsar'' made by National Geographic in 1994.

It can be found here, just in case anybody wondered.

I'm trying to find sources about the late bronze age in Egypt, the fertile crescent and small Asia.
I'm interested mostly in the day to day lives:
- clothing
- food production
- smithing
- building material
- social order
- technology

All i manage to find is either only focused on war, or regards areas other than those i specified. Id appreciate some help.

The good guys were the ones who didn't throw a tantrum over the results of a democratic election and consequently get 600,000 people killed in an ultimately pointless war.

So uhm... Basically, if the car manufactures could make any car they want, they would do them like - safer and ecologicer, cause they would be forced by free market. Now they have these regulations and shit, so thay like, rebel against them.

white supremacy. It was vital to their ideology and national identity.

Also expansionism (for more slave states). The Mexican-American War was unpopular in the north and backed by the south. The Confederacy planned, after getting their independence, to invade Mexico, colonize it, and turn it into a giant slave plantation.

So it's basically become totally obvious that Foucault was right about everything and psychology is the biggest meme mankind has ever memed.

The fact that "disorders" as totally vague and arbitrary as Aspergers are supposed to be legit yet transgenderism has been accepted as normal is a testament to this. Never before in all of history has there been a field so subjective, so arbitrary and so obviously a tool of social control that's managed to convince everyone it's scientific.

How is it even possible in the post-war developed world for a field with the mission statement of "You're different therefore you're inferior" to exist?

continue: A British invasion launched from Canada, would certainty overwhelm the Union (forcing the Union to fight 2 fronts)?

It would have been a catastrophic mess for sure. European involvement would have meant another European country joining in, hell, maybe the first world war could have started. But I'm sure the Union would have had much tougher time winning the rebellion.

agreed, like if Britain invaded the Union from Canada
