Yes, together with Napoleon.

the struggle of ireland against english rule is one of those things that sit right on the fence post.
On one hand they were invaded by a foreign force and were forced to capitulate, etc.
However, they too would do the exact same to the English if the cards were reversed.
The Irish are also complete faggots, and habitually steal.

Is it true the standardization of languages is an artificial 19th century construction rooted in nationalism and that prior to this every micro region in a given country spoke a barely mutually intelligible of the language that would eventually be standardized? Or is this communist propaganda trying to undermine the legitimacy of the nation state?
>>2208838
>Is it true the standardization of languages is an artificial 19th century construction rooted in nationalism
To a large extent, yes for spoken languages, but literary (written) standards definitely did exist before
>barely mutually intelligible
not really
That is sort of what happened with the German language, at least.

Let them unite into a single Islamic state, a Caliphate, and elect a Caliph.
Then let them get rich and powerful.
Then let the liberal mold form in the good and easy times that come.
Then let them ponder abortion, contraceptives, gay rights, feminism, and such.
It will come on its own.

Maybe it's different in other countries seeing as I am Australian and Australia is a very young country, but why is World War I seemingly the start of battles that are commemorated? Say for instance, the Crimean War 60 years earlier is seen as something that is viewed at purely critically, and the causalities lost there are not commemorated at all.
But for WWI there continues to be services, memorials and commemorations for it. The individual people there were lost to the war have been emphasized. Was it because of the sheer size of the war, or are there other reasons at play such as the widespread sentiment that the war was "pointless"? Interested to hear from ya

I am genuinely curious. Theology and religion has become an interest of mine as of late. Some of it is even compelling, but I always have a nagging voice in the back of my head.
Why do the writings of Jesus get a legacy of apologetics whle L. Ron Hubbard and the twitter of Tila Tequila will not? Why do equally improbable metaphysics and histories of the world like Mormonism are met with dismissal while Christianity and Islam get respected?
I'm not the fedora wearer I used to be, I do feel that religion has more value and good morals within it than I used to. I just can't see any reason to believe in God, at least not a personal God. I understand believing in a deist/platonist sort of God, but one who cares a great deal about human behavior and customs just seems superstitious
I know its not cool on 4chan to talk like this, but I am genuinely asking for reasons to believe in Christianity, Islam, or any religion.
There are literally zero reasons.

How much evidence do we have that Roman's really had female slaves?
I'm not asking because I disbelieve, but from reading about the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the vast majority of slaves were male. So would anyone happen to have some good primary source-based knowledge on how many slaves in ancient Rome were women, and how they were treated?
Also, on the issue of female slaves - just as I can find claims all over the internet about a "patriarchy" and "wage gap" in modern times, I can find lots of claims about female slaves being routinely 'raped', but do we have any evidence for this other than supposition? All the sources I see are just claims without citations.
Is there anyone out there with a high degree of knowledge of Ancient Roman literature who can help me on this?
>>2207962
How would you treat a female slave?
>>2207962
What about sex slaves sold at brothels and those bought as slaves by private individuals?
>>2207962
>How much evidence do we have that Roman's really had female slaves?
Overwhelming evidence.
Tons of paintings and frescoes show slave women. The stoic philosopher Musonius Rufus complained about how frequently horny Roman men fucked their female slaves. Diocletian's economic edicts included comprehensive price controls that set different going rates for slaves depending on whether they were male or female and their age group. Slaves weren't covered under the laws governing "stuprum," the Roman legal system's blanket term for sex crimes like rape and molestation.
>from reading about the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the vast majority of slaves were male.
That's because most European buyers in the Transatlantic Slave Trade were seeking manual laborers for backbreaking agricultural and mining work. Women were also purchased for these jobs, and as servants for the colonists, but the bulk of the initial demand was for men. The Spanish and other colonial powers originally enslaved the local Native Americans, but needed another source of cheap labor after the original inhabitants died off from overwork and disease.
Romans made heavy use of slaves in agriculture, but they also used slaves in practically every field you can think of and for specialized tasks. Literate slaves were in high demand, while in the Americas the slavers generally did everything in their power to stamp out literacy among their slaves.
>Also, on the issue of female slaves - just as I can find claims all over the internet about a "patriarchy" and "wage gap" in modern times, I can find lots of claims about female slaves being routinely 'raped', but do we have any evidence for this other than supposition?
Too tired at the moment to dig much further than the previous examples tonight, but it's observed in modern slavery, and was a frequent occurrence with the aforementioned Transatlantic slave trade. There's a reason most "black" people in the US have some European ancestry.
