Which continent has the most boring history? If you say Antarctica you're a pussy.

I'd say South America because there's literally nothing interesting there. Just jungle and some natives. At least Africa had pyramids and shieet.

South America had the Incas. Plus the Galapagos island is pretty cool.

I'd say Australia/Oceania.

None of them. Conflict was pretty much inevitable between two neighboring countries that split on bad terms with such huge ideological differences. Some may blame the Brits for wanting to divide and rule but Mountbatten said himself that he wanted to keep India united and I see no reason to doubt him.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Jinnah for partition. However it was probably for the better because the current size of the muslim minority in India is just enough that they cannot start any major rebellions and also not small enough that they are defenceless

Like Macadons of old, the steppe horse archer of the mongol was almost an unbeatable force. Add that the mongols tend to not tolerate bullshit from their conquered people. Anyway, like Alex empire succession proved to downfall as various chieftain would claim their piece and fight for the title of Khan of khans.

Why do so many people look down on certain hobbies calling them time-wasters?
E.g. Videogames, movies and TV series, anime, comics, lego, even certain books
Time you enjoy ""wasting"" isn't wasted.

Common rebuttals:
>yeah heroin addicts sure are putting their time to great use
Endangering your long-term happiness for short-term happiness is definitely unhealthy. If you're playing videogames or watching anime for 10 hours a day you might want to change your lifestyle
>sure, those activities are fun, but there are other, more productive hobbies
Yeah, but is producing something you don't really need strictly necessary?
Now, if you think engaging in these activities would have a positive impact on your life, be my guest, but if you don't you don't really lose anything by sticking to your pastimes.
>some hobbies promote a unhealthy sedentary lifestyle, and they can isolate you from other people
Refer to the first point.
>hobbies like movies, TV and videogames are not real hobbis. The real ones are [insert biased definition here]
>Definition of hobby: a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation

Were slave soldiers effective?
Mamluks btfoed the mongol-frank alliance.
7 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>

It has little to do with slave vs. free (or professional vs. levy) and everything to do with training, logistics, and discipline. There were plenty of Middle Eastern slave soldiers who were subpar, and sometimes you had an army group that was an elite fighting force. The Mamluks were good because the state, and thus the army, was centered around a close-knit group of slaves who trained together as a unit for years with the numbers and resources to support thousands at a time.

Was the victory at Ain Jalut really that impressive? The Mongols weren't lead by any well known commander (who wasn't even Mongolian), and Mongol forces were only 10-12k. Yes it stopped the Mongolian advance, but the real reason is because Mongke had died and the Mongols had a shit succession process.

How historically accurate is Ben-Hur's portrayal of Romans. Pls, guys, tell me they're wrong. I always fancied Rome for being politically and administratively ahead of their times, but this slavery and oppression thing doesn't stick right.

So many friends my age (late 20s) are finally realizing the hard truth that they won't have a career in academia. Too many grad students, and not enough faculty positions. Now they've spent their entire lives in education and know nothing about the dog eat dog real world.

I'm getting a history degree to become a teacher or professor. How worried should I be?
>>
Honestly, if you wanted to be an autodidact on the level of a university educated history student it would take far more time to come to an understanding of historiography with a broad knowledge of sources in the area of your choice than it would to an equivalent amount of study at university level. Realistically you are only going to be a shallow hobbyist, which is fine, but memesters shouldn't pretend that you can teach yourself to the same level. university history courses are generally very efficient at conveying a number of learning goals needed for the study of history.
