Why haven't Islamic countries produced many Nobel Laureates. Even Israel has two more than the entire Islamic community.
Where did it go wrong?
Islamic Golden age ended with the Crusades+Mongols. Turks kept Islam in the stone age for the next 500 years. Thats why.
>>2284123
israel is not middle eastern or muslim in any technological or economic sense, so that's a big strawman

Why is Nobel Laureates the unit of measure used? It's a fucking meme.

>Heaven Worship was a monotheistic religion in China popular during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, adherents worshiped an entity or concept known as Tian (天 "sky"), or Shàngdì (上帝, "Lord on High") or Dì (帝,"Lord".
>Heaven Worship remained an orthodox state religion in China up until the 20th century.
I find it interesting that a monotheistic religion was overtaken by polytheistic religions, it seems like the opposite of what happened in Europe. Please discuss and share information about Chinese religion ITT.
What are the main differences between the Taoist denominations?
>The Nestorian Stele is a Tang Chinese stele erected in 781 AD that documents 150 years of history of early Christianity in China.[1] It includes texts both in Chinese and in Syriac.
Well, Chinese Heaven worship isn't exactly "monotheistic": Shangdi (Heaven) is considered to be the supreme creator deity in some traditions, but his worship wasn't particularly widespread, because he was considered too remote and alien from humans to even hear their prayers. Shangdi essentially delegated all his power to the various gods of the "Celestial Bureaucracy", and it was these deities who attended to the human world and mortal affairs, as well as the daily running of the cosmos. Only the Emperor worshipped Shangdi directly, and it was usually only through one annual sacrifice that he did.
Second is that Shangdi (Heaven) essentially came to mean the entire collective of the Celestial Bureaucracy in later eras, similarly how Elohim in Hebrew used to refer to the entire heavenly assembly and not to one deity in particular.
So I wouldn't call it strictly monotheistic.

Any intelligent books written on the nature of faith? They can be critiques of faith, or argue in favor of it, I just want to look at this beyond the typical arguments of "Yee haw I love god" and "All people who believe in god are stupid and reddit is the best!"
>>2283626
Most arguments for faith aren't "Yee haw I love god."
>>2283626
You might enjoy C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity".
You would also profit from knowing what faith actually is.
Faith is the human ability to believe what you have not personally seen. Everyone has faith, and everyone uses faith. It's not the possession of or use of faith that is critical in religion; it's the object of that faith.

I've got a pretty general auestion that I'd appreciate someone answering for me.
In movies and TV, when we see scenes of down time in war with soldiers sitting and talking on the front, it seems as if you can always here sounds of small arms fire and explosions in the distance.
Is this really accurate? If you have two armies on one front, and you start hearing shooting, wouldn't that mean that either your side is advancing or another allied army is being attacked? Would soldiers really just sit and listen to it casually, or would that be a sign to sit up and get ready for what might be coming?
Just keep calm and make tea

>>2283616
Shooting doesn't necessarily mean advancing. It could just be a jumpy grunt who thought he saw something.
Now, if you started hearing artillery and men screaming then you would see some action.
>>2283670
Not just like a few cracks in the distance, but sustained machine gun fire and ordinance like in media.
