How could europé have prevented a fully muslim anatolis?

Uniting against the Islamic heresy as soon as Arab armies appeared in Mesopotamia.
Persian cooperation would help.

It is the Byzantines fault for being utterly retarded.
First they enter a 20-30 year civil war after Manzikert and then they massacre the Latins like utter retards.
So, Isaac II Angelos declares himself an enemy of Frederick Barbarossa, who bashes him, goes across into Anatolia only to wipe the floor with the Turks and capture their capital city.
If the Byzantines were allies at that point, Frederick would have likely gave all that territory to the Byzies and they would get the entirety of Western Anatolia, but no.
Because Byzies are retarded.
Also, Manuel could have retaken it, but fate chose failure.
What do you see/think?

What?
War Movies: I'm looking for a movie to watch tonight that covers a period in history that gets overlooked (preferably pre- gunpowder) that shows realistic combat. The movie being good would also be nice.
13 assassins is cool
probably doesn't depict real events
lots of samurai killing lots of other samurai with swords in the late Tokugawa period
>>2385864
Arn. Movie about Crusades. Pretty good.
>>2385864
Don't know about realistic combat, but the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is pretty good.
tfw you realize the Romans were the barbarians the whole time
yep
they finished what Darius and Xerxes couldn't: the extinguishing of freedom and civilization in the West
It didn't return until the Enlightenment

Apparently traps were a recurring motif in ancient art.

Source?
Should man be free to preform acts which might be considered degenerate onto himself? Consumption of narcotics, becoming overweight, living a life of negativity and crime for instance. Is personal freedom really just?
>>2385692
Personal freedom is your only hope for not degenerating because without it you're either degrading yourself or others.
becoming THICK is a noble pursuit
>>2385692
The issue is that a framework to prevent such things has other undesirable effects.
women are the gatekeepers of sex and the agents of partner selection
monogamy arose as a social solution for the sex market were non alpha males would get more chance of reproducing and women would get help raising children, this contributes imensely to social stability, since reproducing is somewhat easir than in absolute natural state allowing for lower competition and men being calmer and able to dedicate energy to other endeavors
Can civilized society exist without monogamy, even if its just while having kids below 18?
>& Humanities
That's wrong though, women were gang raped and shared communally, the guy with the best dick at pumping his competitors semen out passed on his genes.
Every man used to have a slice of the pie but not all reproduced.
>>2385627
polygamous societies are nowhere near as stable as monogamous ones and matriarchies thartt managed to survive to this day are quasi-dictatorships were women organize in family groups were the oldes women has absolute power and men are drones with no voice

I've decided to get into philosophy and fell for the start with the greeks meme. Should I start with Plato or Aristotle and which of their works should I read in which order? Also, where can I read them for free?
It's probably not really worth it to spend your life reading philosophy books of every school. read an overview and then try reading into a specific book and see if its something you can grasp/get behind.
Plato is probably the best to start because,
I) The Apology provides a nice ground for how to tackle philosophizing, and isn't a bad place to start.
II) While not exactly a response, Aristotle builds off of Plato's works, so knowing the latter while better inform you when you address the former.
Most works should probably on Gutenberg or floating around online if you just search the title, though I'm not sure how good their translations are, so shop around some, and if it comes down to it, try LibGen.
>>2385178
Neither, start with Thales, read the Presocratics as you can find them, and then move on to Plato, and then Aristotle.
Imagine being Foucault in that debate and having to be all like "damn, Chomsky, you fuckin' fine, all dialectical with your human nature and horrific language theory. I would totally write an article with you, both my literary persona and the real me." when all he really wants to do is write about relations of power in societal institutions. Like seriously imagine having to be Foucault and not only sit in that chair while Noam Chomsky flaunts his disgusting theory in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing his shitty haircut, and just sit there, word after word, hour after hour, while he perfected his argument. Not only having to tolerate his stupid fucking syntactic structure theories but his haughty attitude as everyone on the audience tells him he’s STILL GOT IT and DAMN, NOAM CHOMSKY DEBATES LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and hear this stupid fucking analytic contort his books into types of mental gymnastics you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been writing nothing but a healthy diet of critical theory and post-structuralist best-sellers for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the opium dens in France. You've never even heard anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on his dirty thick-rimmed glasses as he smirks suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to sit there and revel in his "revolutionary (for that is what he calls it)" cognitive science, the cognitive science he worked so hard for with his anarchist buddies in the previous months. And then Fons Elders brings up another subject, and you know you could refute every single person in this room before the analytics could write a review of your book, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Foucault. You're not going to lose your academic prestige over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.

I like this OP.
I noticed that religion seems to be a shared interest among users of all boards. But I noticed that there really isn't a board to discuss religious theories or related philosophical doctrines. If anyone is interested, how can we go about getting a board for discussing /rel/?
For those interested, Copypasta this post and keep spreading it to other relevant boards for visibility.
I second this idea
>>2384966
Honestly no, it would become the /pol/ of religion.
>>2384966
Religion. Gross!
A Spiritual board, that excludes all the flaky, ditzy people, would be good. But it'd be a lot of work to exclude their nonsense, cause there's a lot of them. Probably wouldn't work and it'd be a nonsense board.
A Environmental board. With weather extremes destroying our fragile infrastructure so frequently, there should be a place for deniers to see lots of examples of it--surely some of them are capable of intelligence.
Can you lose your salvation?
I've seen good arguments for and against the "Once Saved Always Saved" doctrine.
Catholics need not apply.
Why would you lose it?
>>2384920
Why ask the question if you're not going to allow Catholics to pitch in?
>>2384920
Is punching a baby after being saved enough to make you lose salvation? Or is god ok with it?
Member when all Europe got BLACKED?
Map is kinda wrong. Warsaw was not capital city of Poland back then.
>>2384913
Also the beaker mask was created only in the 17th century, so it's anachronistic to associate it with the Black Death of the 14th.

>tfw i was born too late to fight for nationalist spain

>>2384780
I was just watching a documentary on Spain's civil war this past week. I love that through it, it had about two sentences of how the anarchists burned down several churches, killed 11 bishops, and 4000 priests/nuns, but when the nationalist purges happened against armed combatants, it took about 45 minutes to explain it and interview survivors and spectators.
But what actually went down in the aftermath of the war? Were there mass purges like in other authoritarian states, or did life somewhat return to normal?
