1945: You are luftshutz (air defense boy) assigned in Pfalz/Baveria. You got a wife and kid (10 years old). Orders come in. You're going to Berlin under Steiner and Shorner to attempt the pinser attack that would trap and destroy a huge chunk of Reds.

If you don't go you'll get away with it but are you an eternal pussy?

If you do you risk your life in a hail mary attempt to briefly stop the Russians.

Please respond, I'm asking for a...friend.

Holy fuck, I have not thought of that book in years and you just sent a shiver up my spine.

It's funny. When you're younger, it feels like you experience life less in terms of events and objects as we do now as oldfags, but instead, felt everything in terms of atmospheres, of sheer feelings.

Vividly, I'm now recalling the sensation of those scenes where the young artisan is taught how to stamp out those little gold leafs. Little bubbles of gold ore blown, then gently hammered down. Little delicate leaves. Or did the artisan already know?

Thanks anon, it's been awhile

>The Huns in Sweden ?

>Götaland and Gotland in southern Sweden now have the highest frequency of haplogroup Q in Europe (5%) and almost all of it belong to the Q1a2b1 (L527) subclade. The Romans reported that the Huns consisted of a small ruling elite and their armies comprised mostly of Germanic warriors. Gotland and Götaland is the presumed homeland of the ancient Goths. In the 1st century CE, some Goths migrated from Sweden to Poland, then in the 2nd century settled on the northern shores of the Black Sea around modern Moldova. The Huns conquered the Goths in the Pontic Steppe in the 4th century, forcing some of them to flee the Dnieper region and settled in the Eastern Roman Empire (Balkans). It would not be improbable that some Goths and Huns moved back to southern Sweden, either before invading the Roman Empire, or after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, displaced by the Slavic migrations to Central Europe. After all, even ancient people kept the nostalgia of their ancestral homeland and knew exactly where their ancestors a few hundreds years earlier came from.

I'm really confused by Post-Perry Japan.

The Shogun wanted to get rid of the foreigners.
The Westerners supported the Emperor's side.

The Imperial side wanted to modernise and adapt western technology
But also hated the westerners and their culture.

But the people who hated the Westerners catch the Catch phrase "praise the emperor, expel the barbarians" meaning they supported the emperor and werent on the shoguns side.

What, which side was modernist, which traditional?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
The Shogunate were enemies of the westerners but modernised the most, wearing western dress and using western weapons.

The Emperors side remained much more traditional, but were on the side of the westerners.

Very confusing.
>>
>>2430860
The Imperials made it a point to hate the west even more than the Shogunate, at least in their pitch to the people.
>>
>>2430860
You seem to be conflating "modernization" with "westernization". None of the nips had any problem with guns, battleships, etc. beyond what it would take to get them. One side wanted to do a tech rush and let the barbarians in for their technology even if it meant changing their culture somewhat to facilitate that exchange and the other faction viewed that cultural shift and the level of western influence on Japanese politics and economy as unacceptable.

Hey there /his/, I'm going to be starting an Ancient history course soon, split between Rome and Greece. I've got Rome covered in terms of reading, but I'm in need of some books on the basics of Ancient Greek History, along with any other sources.

I've read my Herodotus and much of my Thucydides, but I'm in need of a better grounding for the period on the whole, discussing the basic structure of society in the Hellenic world, and some of the basic aspects of society. I feel like I only have a very patchy understanding of how the average Hellene would live, how their societal structure evolved and so forth.

Why did the Jews sacrifice children? What for?

A better question is: Are these events–which are true and inarguable unless you are being dishonest–the results of crazy kool aid drinkers or vindictive of mainstream Judaism? While these events should come to light–also the part where Jews are covering it up or even sympathetic to the murderers–they don't imply all Jews supported child sacrifice. Or even most. While a certain number of Jewish ritual murders are obvious lost to history it still doesn't mean it was mainstream beyond fringe cultist.

Any more historic examples of this?

I think the prime example is the Manchus.

>conquer China

>enforce Manchu culture

>eventually Han-ized

>Now only 10 people speak Manchu, and most Manchu are assimilated

their conquest of China backfired. They might still exist today if they remained in Manchuria

>>
>sacks Rome
>demands his men refer to him as "Alaricus", raids Fabricae to dress them up as Roman soldiers, corresponds only in Latin
>>
>>2428605
It's called assimilation.
Because you can't be the foreign conqueror of several hundred million people and expect to stay on the throne without trying to appease them by adopting their culture and language. Kublai and the Yuan did it. Mughals did it. Ptolemies did it. Royal Hautevilles of Sicily did it. Rurikids did it. The House of Hanover did it.
