Discuss.

we can cooperate in small groups, around 150 ppl
size of ancient settlements
over that size we are unable to form meaningful bonds and competition for resources starts
be it money, food, women, rocks, whatever

its how we evovled

thats a paradox
>cooperation
>egoism/self-intrest

you can only pick one
>>
>>2571155
That is retarded. It is in my self-interest to cooperate with others as competition is but a race to the bottom. It's why workers form trade unions and CEOs form cartels.

Whenever I am reading about Roman history I always try to draw lessons from Rome's demise and apply it to the modern day. Circumstances were different, but I believe it is very easy to see that with every great civilization decadence and the lack of healthy civic engagement cause moral rot from within.

I would also say that the rise of Christianity plays a massive role in dampening Rome's imperial ambitions and therefore it always put the Empire (Especially Byzantium) on the defensive.

What do you believe are the greatest influences of destruction that brought down the Romans?

probably the disintegration of the republic and the political legitimacy of the ruling establishment replaced with a system that incentivized profligate warlords within the empire to wage civil war for their own gain.

"Obviously the fall of Rome was caused by [thinly veiled reference to present day attitudes and policies of my ideological enemies]!" - every jackass pseudo-historian since the early middle ages.

Rome had not sought an expansive war since the days of Trajan. Them being christfags did not change their attitudes to bellum iustum

Why have British people contributed absolutely nothing to the advancement of human culture? I can't think of any relevant British artists. They contributed absolutely nothing to any realm of art compared to continental Europeans. All relevant painters, composers, etc were from anywhere between Germany and Spain, but they sure as hell weren't from Britain.

Not only that, but Britbongs are so insecure about their inability to contribute positively to humanity that they thrive on stealing the cultures of other people and either take credit for it or gloat about how they stole it. Pretty much every historically relevant artifact in any British museum is either on lease or was stolen from the Egyptians. I don't fully blame them, British """""architecture""""" is pretty shit-tier, especially considering the only British structures of historical note were built by the Romans, the Vikings, or only came into existence within the past few centuries. Brits will point to Stonehenge as an early example of British structures, but most of their obsession over it is wewuz-tier autism.

So I ask again, why haven't the British contributed to human culture at all? Even Americans, who are essentially British offsprings, have contributed far more to the advancement of humanity.

>b-b-b-but muh shakespeare
The only reason that British literature is anything of note is because American high schoolers can read it.

Hi all, next month I'll join a friend and walk the Hadrians wall path, does anyone have book recommendations on the wall/ Hadrian? I'm currently reading Memoirs of Hadrian by Yourcenar and it's pretty good, but more specific books about the wall or Romans in England are very welcome

Is the determination on what is history, given by the moderator(s) above, still correct, in the light of ´the present´? Why are we ´restricted´ to also talk about events that have taken, are taking or took place in the last 25 years. The present is as much part of history as events that took place before 25 years ago? It is not per se a critique on the mods, just a question in general.

So after seeing so much out of context kaang posting I was wondering if anyone had any information of the various ethnicities of ancient Egypt, and how common Nubians, Levantines or even black East Africans would have been in Ancient Egypt compared to ethnic Egyptians. It doesn't have to be limited to a specific dynastic period. It can be pretty much all the way up until the later Roman period.

Read Kemp's Ancient Egypt - Anatomy of a Civilization.

There is a core of brown people that are North-Eastern Africans. They are some golden mean between not too white and not too black.

They are their own thing, immersed in a mess of differently colored people, some lighter, some darker, not only from all four corners of the land, but as populations within a larger Nile Valley civilization, influenced by neighboring African territories and the Near East both in demographics and culture throughout prehistory (pre-dynastic Egypt) and millennia of history.

Egyptians remain Egyptians and in their own particular way brown, regardless of whether the current dynasty is of "blacks" or Greeks. In many ways they have been a bridge between Africa and Asia.

Meanwhile African-American genetics is crystal clear that if they're looking for an Urheimat for wewuzing purposes, it has to be from the lands their ancestors were stolen from, whom, suprising exactly no-one, were on the Atlantic side of Africa.

Since historians tell us those places were not devoid of pre-colonial civilizations, the wewuz crowd could look up the archaeology of those, while leaving North-African territories taken over by Greeks, Romans and Muslims alone.

There was one of the dynasties that was legitimately black Nubians, which is probably how WE WUZ KANGZ arose.

I want to say it was the 15th dynasty.
>>
Sorry for the off-topic question but did Egypt ever conquer/had Sudan? I know the Nubians pushed their way up Egypt once and conquered it but did it ever happen in reverse? How far down did they went if they did?

I want to live as anti-theistically as possible, specifically anti-abrahamic-monotheism.

Should I become an atheist or should I start worshipping Satan?

Serious question.

Worshiping Satan would be semi-agreeing that God and the Devil actually exist.

I always hear people say that recording history about our current time period will be a piece of cake, since everything is recorded on computers and basically every little detail is posted on the internet.
But isn't the opposite true? For instance if you want to read the information on this floppy you would need a machine that has already aged poorly and isn't even in use anymore. You would need a specific tool for every couple of years, just to retrieve information. Compared to printed stuff which, if preserved, can always be read.
Stuff on the internet also doesn't last forever. About half of the sites I went to as a kid don't even exist anymore. I guess you can make physical copies of every site, but good luck sifting through all that.

What are your thougths /his/?

I'm not an expert and I'm sure you'll get much better replies in this thread, but you're basically right. Data rot in general is a big problem, particularly data rot through obsolescence. I remember reading something about how so many early pieces of software and documents they created from the early 80s are already completely unrecoverable and lost.
>>
This was developed, so there's hope.

But yeah, most of data produced in the last 30 years will eventually disappear.

Wouldn't it be useful, with this knowledge in mind, to create a digital archive? Regulated by the methode of 'the historian' (which is every changung, but has a foundation). Meaning in other words. Does 'the historian' need to be more interdisciplinary (like braudel suggested in regard to social sciences) and work together with IT?
