I've been thinking lately ever since I went back to school a few weeks ago on something that has to involve Russia. I'm taking Imperial Russian history from 987 to the present which also involves the history of the USSR and current events surrounding Russia and Ukraine.
My question is, is Russian culture inherently authoritarian and collectivist? Are Russians in general authoritarian and its just their nature? I don't believe in biological determinism well it depends of course, if we are talking about some cultures from Arabia or Africa, yes the cultures can determine that outcome.
I guess I ask this because well I don't believe that Russians are inherently collectivist or authoritarian because as a lolbertarian I think that governments under any banner can be oppressive no matter if its Russian or not.
Since 4chan doesn't like it when I type too much I will continue to explain this in a comment.

99% of their population or something were serfs for centuries, its ingrained in their culture to be cattle
I don't believe that Russians are inherently collectivist or authoritarian in nature because I believe any society can be collectivist and authoritarian if under the right circumstances. Also I don't believe that Russia as a state is unique in the sense of totalitarianism because you don't need the Russian state as something to give an example of totalitarianism because there are plenty of autocratic regimes that don't follow the Russian tradition and who gets to decide if a totalitarian regime follows the Russian tradition?
I think that's bullshit because states can be oppressive regardless if its Russian or not.
Look at Maoist China, Mao despised Stalin and the later Soviet Union for its "revisionist" policies ironically towards Stalinism but the point is shouldn't we instead blame Marx and Engels for this ideology of communism? It doesn't take the Russian state in order to make communism oppressive and totalitarian in nature.

So was much of Western Europe and in some cases they developed a totalitarian culture and a mentality that didn't need Russia to help them with.

No. Not really.
The brutality of the Anglo-Norman is boundless.
After we were driven before the Roman menace the witless Saxon moved in, like the craven carrion craving cretins they are and leeched from the Romano-Celtic culture, claiming it as their own.
Then, then themselves were driven before a greater foe, the Norman.
This is when the Anglo-Norman aggression against the peaceful Celtic people peaked in such vitriolic action as:

Not to mention the destruction of Celtic genetics, language and culture.
It is time for you to leave and for you to take your multicultural sacrificial lambs with you.
Go back to Germany and Scandinavia and never return you filth.

Except the reality that show was about is his successful multi-billion dollar business.
He'd been in politics for decades at that point.

if this is true, then this man was very different from I thought he was

Interesting. Always with such stuff the question is whether it's authentic.
As for Stalin, from what I've read it's pretty clear that he was no robot. He liked to go on trips out to the country and get drunk and tell old stories and dirty jokes and so on. He certainly had a human side. But at the same time, he was a ruthless paranoid totalitarian dictator.

>>3388330
Himmler objectively did betray them but nobody ever brings that up. Why?
>>3388336
He did it at the end of the war to save his own skin whereas Staffenberg and the others did it in July 1944, when Germany still held onto portions of the Soviet Union and most of continental Europe and did so not necessarily to save themselves (although that was certainly a factor), but to negotiate an end to the war and avoid the needless sacrifice of millions of German lives for a lost cause.

If colonial exploitation is to blame for the dismal state of sub-Saharan Africa, why are the exploited Central and South American and South, East, and Southeast Asian colonies nowhere near as completely horrible?
>>3384782
Colonial exploitation is only one of the various issues responsible for the state of modern africa

As well as the unique history of Africa as a whole from the Pied Noir settlement of Algeria to the pre-colonial yet imperialistic and economic conditions of pre-19th century Africa as well.
This of course isn't even talking about the Cold War era proxy wars and the western nations propping dictatorship for cheaper resource extraction.
Ultimately, colonialism was only one part of a chain of social and economic development that lasted for thousands of years.
Africa came out behind primarily because it came in behind.

Is the fatal flaw in Communism its inheirent idealism? Are Communists too distracted with their goal of achieving Utopia that they carelessly speed past necessities (such as a stable agricultural economy) to skip to the "cool stuff" like industry, military, monuments, etc? If so, could this argument be applied to other idealist ideologies, such as Fascism
the idea of a utopia is impossible in the present human condition. communism and fascism would work if we weren't human, but those that seek power are typically those that are corrupt or intend to abuse it. humans are fickle meat bags who constantly think "What if it were like this though????????" and this gives rise to idealism. nothing will ever be perfect unless we can change our consciousness.
>>3387651
I doubt it, since population growth under communist regimes was usually higher than their capitalist counter-parts.
In my understanding there's nothing wrong with communism societal structure or ignorance of human nature. The problem with communism is it's inherent inefficiency. To calculate prices for an economy you literally need to account for thousands of variables. Not only that the inherent inefficiency of a system that requires an organization to produce centralize than redistribute goods for and services at the price and amount to be deemed the most beneficial, instead of producing to maximize profit is to complicated. By the time you determine the right amount to be produced, market conditions have already changed and you have to do it all over again. The only way I can believe communism can work in this day and age is through the use of supercomputers to model the economy and the way it'll change through time

probably because he saw them somewhat as equals in terms of being "strongmen" rulers, but we know how that turned out after FDR died. Stalin thought Truman was a bitch (and he was a bitch)
