I've studied the history of philosophy in some depth. Besides more depth on pure philosophy, and general socio-economic and political history, what else can I study to give more breadth and background understanding?

I'm talking about things in addition to history of science, art movements, literary criticism, logic and rhetoric, mathematics, and theology.

Basically I am asking, what else can I add to that list? (either subjects or specific books)

As opposed to simply literary criticism, also genuine literature.

It's really more like they showed up to a party while it was already winding down, thought "that was a cool party" and then tried to throw their own party like it later on.

Like, after the Crisis of the Third Century, Rome was basically the living dead.
>>
>>2595235
Why did the HRE call themselves "romans" though

what was their actual reason for doing so, I'm sure there's some historical founding document that explains why they chose the word "roman"

>Wilhelm had wrote to Nicholas the question of Russian interests in Manchuria and Korea were besides the point, saying instead it was a matter of Russia "undertaking the protection and defense of the White Race, and with it, Christian civilization, against the Yellow Race. And whatever the Japs are determined to ensure the domination of the Yellow Race in East Asia, to put themselves at its head and organise and lead it into battle against the White Race. That is the kernel of the situation, and therefore there can be very little doubt about where the sympathies of all half-way intelligent Europeans should lie. England betrayed Europe's interests to America in a cowardly and shameful way over the Panama Canal question, so as to be left in 'peace' by the Yankees. Will the 'Tsar' likewise betray the interests of the White Race to the Yellow as to be 'left in peace' and not embarrass the Hague tribunal too much?"

Kaiser Willy actually, unironically thought the Japanese would ally with the Chinese to dominate the world. This is what racists of the time actually believed. And no I don't mean "he said mean things about Asians" racists but real bona fide "race is a real, 100% scientific, and accurate historical determinant and policy platform" racist. Racism, while useful as a way to rally support and curry favor because "they took our jobs", is woefully ignorant not just of other cultures but also of geopolitics, economics, and historical context.

See Roosevelt's executive orders on Japanese internment. The educated and thriving Japanese middle class entrepeneurs and workers of the American southwest had all their property forcibly confiscated and, to fill in the resulting labor vacuum, business during and after the war were incentivized to import cheaper black, Mexican, and central American workers (see Bracero program and the Great Migration).
>>
>>2595400
The desire by Japanese to incorporate Koreans into Japan proper was correct.

They also didn't necessarily think the japs would ally with the chinks. Just set themselves up as a foreign dynasty and project all that manpower and resources westwards too.

The yellow peril is real and the Chinese espionage in the US among third and fourth generation chinks even proves it.

Back in 1915, the majority of Italians did not speak Standard Italian. Rather they spoke various regional languages, some more closely related to French or Spanish than Standard Italian, including Sicilian, Neapolitan, Piedmontese, Venetian, and Sardinian. Additionally there was no real Italian national identity; regions had been their own states 50 years prior and had their own cultures. On top of this, there was enough of a difference in physical appearance between certain populations that certain traits (e.g. below average height, olive skin, low rates, high rates of very dark hair and eyes, high cheeks, etc.) got stereotyped as 'southern', while others (pale skin, higher rates of blondism, etc.) got stereotyped as northern.

Did all of this cause issues? Did the Royal Italian Army count as a multi-ethnic army? Did they ever have the same issues as the Austro-Hungarians, where language was a serious issue and there was a shortage of officers who could easily communicate with their men?

This wasn't unique to Italy, though.

Southern French people spoke Occitan, a language similar to Catalan, prior to WWI. Likewise the dialectal differences within English and German were far more pronounced (no pun intended) back then than today.

Obviously A-H and Russia had lots of diversity issues.

The Sassari brigade from Sardinia was the most succesful military unit in Italy by far:
>Between 28 and 31 January 1918 the Sassari was again in the first line during the first Italian offensive operations after the Army had spent the second half of 1917 in a defensive posture. To the north of Vicenza the brigade managed to capture the Col del Rosso, Col d’Ecchele and Monte Valbella and for this feat was awarded a second Gold Medal of Military Valor for both its regiments. A feat not achieved by any other brigade in the course of the war. At the end of the war the Sassari was the highest decorated Italian unit of World War I, and individual soldiers of the Brigade earned:
>6 Military Orders of Savoia
>13 Gold Medals of Military Valor
>405 Silver Medals of Military Valor
>551 Bronze Medals of Military Valor
>The brigade had suffered the highest loss rate of all Italian Infantry brigades in the war: 2,164 dead, and 12,858 wounded and missing in action; a death rate of 13.8% of all men that had served in the brigade during the war. The Italian writer Emilio Lussu had served in the brigade during World War I and would later write an anti-war book about his experiences: A Year on the High Plateau (Un anno sull'altipiano).

/pol/ checking in, wanted to give an opinion, though it may get removed by a mod.
This is one of my favourite boards, and as a radical right winged someone who lives on /pol/, I really appreciate the lack of political discussion and derailing on this board, this board didn't suffer the same fate as the old news board, and I think it is perfectally appropriate to ban and kick those who derail threads with politics. Anyways

Tl;dr Is there anything wrong with /his/ and it's community? If it is the frequency of /pol/ viewers, should the board be changed to just be "history" and have stricter non-political rules, or should there be a containment rule for /pol/?

P.S if this is unrelated to /his/ I apologize, the FAQ board is slow and unrecognized and I felt this was the right way to ask.
I'll bump with random historical pics

Why do Catholics think it is okay to direct their worship towards statues and paintings rather than God?

>Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exodus 20:4-6 (KJV)

Paintings and statues (in any context) are unacceptable according to the Bible, which we Christians follow, only photos are okay. So why do Catholics create and worship them?
