Patriarchy has just been thousands of years of men going on about muh dick and flinging shit at each other.

Let's give matriarchy a chance.
>>
Sort of.

When a society is capable of producing more than enough to live, people start trying to solve other problems in life.

But we haven't really seen how people will use a solid increase in their personal purchasing power, because it hasn't really grown for fifty years. We know that at the high-water mark, they used it to try and gain political freedom.

Why did some Jewish people take Polish and Russian surnames while others took German-influenced Yiddish surnames? Were Yiddish surnames taken in Slavic-speaking countries, or only Austria-Hungary?
30 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>2629374
Jewish surnames in the Russian Empire were roughly 50/50 Slavic/Yiddish in origin with a small percentage derived from Hebrew.

In the Russian Pale of Settlement, numerous surnames are drawn from two Yiddish dialects, Northeastern (peculiar to Lithuania, Latvia, Belorussia and northern Ukraine) and Southeastern (characteristic of southern Ukraine and Bessarabia). The differences between these dialects mainly concern the pronunciation of vowels, as illustrated in the following samples:
Northeastern Yiddish: Treger, Margolis, Nodelman, Borekh, Gorfunkel, Beim, Likht
Southeastern Yiddish: Treiger, Margulis, Nudelman, Burikh, Gurfinkel, Boim, Lekht
The regions in which the Yiddish names were particularly common were Bessarabia, Podolia and Volhynia.

Surnames derived from German words and/or with German suffixes were common in two areas a good distance apart:
A continuous region in the southwestern part of the Empire comprising Bessarabia, Podolia and Volhynia. In this area, almost all surnames based on the German language belong to the category of artificial surnames—surnames that had nothing to do with either the origin or personal characteristics of their first bearers. Often them represent compound names, with two roots appended to each other: Apfelbaum, Kirschenbaum, Prinzenthal, Rosenzweig, Rotblatt and Weissberg. Certain names came to this area of the Empire from neighboring Galicia; others, even more numerous, were constructed locally, immediately after enactment of the law of 1804 that forced all Jews of the Empire to acquire hereditary family names.
Courland, a guberniya outside the Pale of Settlement with a large Jewish population authorized to continue residence there after Russia’s annexation of the area in 1795. In this guberniya, the German language was the source of the creation of a large majority of surnames.

Ashkenazi Jews took surnames based on the language of the country they lived in and the profession allotted to them. Just like everyone else.

It's called conversion. Ashkenazi Jews are LARPing as Jews.

Might is right. If you have the strength to rebel and succeed in overthrowing your masters, you deserve to be free as long as you can.

Would the southern states of America have been better off if the Confederacy had survived past the Civil War?

I understand that "better off" is very subjective, but it seems to me that the South benefits much more as part of the modern American superpower than it would have as a separate nation constantly at odds with their northern neighbor.

but I agree with ya, constant war with north would have been shitty

YFW we do not live in a world dominated by the German Empire and its ally, the Northern States of America.

Why groups who are most associated with their larger sub-races/language family, are always the least pure of that said group?

Germans - Least Germanic of all Germanic people
Turks - Least Turkic of all Turkic peoples
Latinos - Least Latin of all Latinos
Blacks (Afroamericans) - Least "Black" of all Black people
Russians - Least Slavic of all Slavic peoples

I agree only because it's shrouded in mystery, and what we know is so ancient and foreign it's like something out of a fantasy novel. The bronze age was a golden age in Europe. They had an extensive trade system, huge battles were fought that we may never know much about besides a few artifacts, kings rose and fell and no one will ever remember their names. I'd love to take a time machine to that time to experience it.

Too bad we know relatively little about the Bronze Age in comparison to the Iron Age

Can we discuss an interesting, unique, powerfull but misunderstood civilization that stood toe to toe with Rome? Enough with the Roman/Nazi circlejerk. What were they like? Did they really sacrifice children, were they really le happy merchants using others to fight, or were they a highly militarised society as Aristotle suggests?

>>
>>2628416
They certainly burned children, it's not clear if it was for sacrifice of if it was just normal to cremate dead children (as opposed to dead adults).

My understanding is they had a mixed military, with both their own soldiers but also lots of allied/mercenary troops such as Celtiberians and Gauls.

Does anyone know anything about their government? I've heard them variously described as "republic", "empire", "kingdom", etc. What was their style of government?
>>
>>2628428
They were republic-ish with their own weird rules. Money was a big factor since they were big traders. I like to think of a mix of Mediterranean republicanism mixed with a touch of Ferengi.
>>
>>2628428

They cremated all their dead, adults and infants alike.

RPF were backed by US so it was in their interest to stand back and let the RPF roll in and take Kigali.

Catholicbros, I don't know what we're going to do about Francis. He seems hell-bent on changing doctrine in his quest to be "merciful." Just when I was starting to get hopeful again, he has one of his officials send that dumb letter to the Maltese bishops.

I guess the best thing to do is trust in God, pray the Rosary, and hope he either has a change of spirit or dies soon.
