I think I'm an unironically good theologian. This is very awkward to me since I'm an atheist.

Should I just go into theology anyway and bullshit about believing?

You're spiritually blind and not a theologian at all, much less a good one.

So theology isn't a science worth studying critically?

>Philip gets assassinated
>Alexander becomes king
>Athens swept away by demagoguery and revolts against Macedon
>convinces Thebes to revolt as well
>Alexander literally wipes Thebes off the face of the earth, kills all the soldiers and sells the rest of the people into slavery

how do you even fuck up this badly?

I mean he was right that if there was ever a time to strike it was in the transition to a young unproven leader. He was just unlucky enough to revolt against military and political genius.
>>
>>2639792

>unproven

Alexander had whipped that ass at Chaeronea just 2 years before. Demosthenes was there in person. He should have known better
>>
>>2639806
Possibly but it was still the only chance he would have of seeing an independent Athens. I also have no idea how widespread info like Alexander being the key commander in a battle was. I honestly don't. (Obviously I'm talking about in their time)

It would most likely be pretty boring to be a farmer or rancher with like two other guys in the middle of the great plains.

yes but what about being a cowboy?

I hate to disappoint you but the Wild West really wasn't all that wild.

You can be a cowboy now. Just go find a big ranch and say you want to ranch hand but you have no experience.

Why did Croatia leave its 900-year-union with Hungary to form a kingdom with a people they absolutely despised and had just been at war with, the Serbs?

Early in college, want to study the historical origin of consciousness. What direction should I go?

Philosophy, neuroscience, classics, psychology, and archaeology all seem relevant to what I have in mind. Sort of like the Julian Jaynes stuff that Westworld helped popularize, although his bicameral stuff is apparently bunk. Basically I want to study what other people have to say about where consciousness came from (is it all biological, or a product of certain cultural and political corcumstances, or dependent on art and/or science and/or religion, etc). What fields are best for this, and are there any respectable scientists or scholars working on this problem right now?

hey /his/
Humanities question here:

We aren't comfy anymore.
Why do we care so much about preserving life? It seems like today its all about curing this, and protecting that. Keep the homeless alive and help Heroine addicts. Get rid of Abortion and outlaw capital punishments. Ban fire arms and LGBT.

Nothing makes sense to me. Why are we not trying to lower the population of the world. We always try to perserve life and then when there is too much life around we go into crisis mode because there are more people killing each other or overdosing or homeless instead of going to the root of the problem. Society simply has too many fucking people.

Right now we have all these disagreements with the way politics should be run, but from an anthropological standpoint, we known that Human Kind should have never come this far and it is impossible to govern this many people.

Historically speaking in times of crisis where populations got too big, Nature set its course and damned off all the masses. We have come so far to a point where we prevent things like all out war and plagues and disasters.

We know what our end game is, if we don't do something soon. We also know from History that we as humans do nothing but strip the land clean then move out.

So tell me /his/ Why do we let this happen when we know our doom? Give me actual educated reasons if you dont mind. Historical reasoning as well as Humanities reasoning's.

so, /his , I have been recently been looking into different countries and their history starting from 1200's an onward, and I have thought about how amazingly good and terrible each empire and country is. It got me wondering, what would be the stats of each of the countries if they were to follow some sort of game format: i.e: STR, DEF, CHA, and other specified regions such as sea warfare, border-warfare, siege-warfare, etc. i know for certain the Croatia would have the highest in border-warfare, Courage, and god-tier DEF, with the possibility of a "I'm fortifying this position" theme. England would have ridiculous ranged attack and such. I find this sort of stuff hilarious to think about. i dunno, what do you guys think should be the stats?

Why does everybody think china surpassing the United States is such a big deal. I mean historically china was always a giant superpower. They for one were the main reason for European exploration, they were insanely wealthy, and had manpower out the asshole. They were always historically much more important than any other country.

Because America has to be the best at everything.

It's strange to see the global acceptance of the US as the world superpower despite only being a very powerful country for the last 100+ years.
I mean that is nothing, and how much longer can it last?
>>
Because China as a state does what is prudent, not what is just.

Throughout the centuries this has led to untold human suffering on scales we as Westerners can't even comprehend. Hundreds of millions of dead, mass famine, societal collapse, backwardness, hubris, failure to come to terms with even the most basic premises that ensure human dignity. China lacks the moral authority to be the de facto "leader" of the world like the US currently is. China as leader means worldwide destabilization, because the Chinese have never sought to set in order anything but themselves.

>Medieval European soldiers are either knights or mercenaries.

Did Medieval Yurup have other kinds of soldiers besides these two? Like common, permanent footsoldiers? Pop history would have me believe every fighting man was either a knight or a merc.

Poor people weren't allowed to hold weapons. There were militias in the free cities like in parts of Italy or Germany, but outside those places it was just knights and later mercenaries. Nobody, in western Europe anyways, wanted to arm the same peasants that worked in their fields. It was both dangerous to the social order and economically unsound.

Permanent soldiers loyal to the state coming onto the scene in France is something of a milestone for the end of the middle ages.
