>Germany weren't the bad guys in WWI! It was different than WWII!
>They just started a horrific bloody war over an obscure backwater assassination in order to gain any semblance of relevance, using atrocious chemical and biological weapons on innocent people, using serrated bayonets and other inhumane vile tactics to win a war they started all to try and land somewhere somewhat important on the global stage!

Why was it acceptable to be a hebephile (attraction to pubescent girls) back then but people call you "pedo" for even being attracted to 16 year olds now? What was the historical turning point where this changed so much?
>>2655894
My guess is a combination of several things.
1) The creation of the notion of "adolescence" coming out of the industrial revolution.
2) Lengthening lifespans in general.
3) The far lower infant and mother mortality rates today.

>Why was it acceptable to be a hebephile (attraction to pubescent girls) back then
What "back then" are you referring to?

Can you stay the fuck out of our shit? I know it's rough, being told you major and interests are flatout worthless everyday I know. But for the love of god STOP INJECTING YOUR SHIT INTO STEM AND OUR COLLECTIVE DISCIPLINES. It's not relevant to the practical problems we aim to solve. Our feels and how to express them is not going to make me understand fluid dynamics more. I shouldn't have to take an art class or some bullshit humanities course when my major is engineering. The beauty of STEM is that I don't have to deal with your Critical Theory shilling nonsense, and I want it to stay that way, because it should stay that way. Stop giving humanities, something that is rotten to the fucking core, a foot in the door to STEM so they can spread their cult dogma to people who actually have an interest in education, bettering themselves, and focusing on tangible problems using objective truth in this world rather than bitching about everything all the fucking time. STAY OUT IF OUR SHIT, FUCK!
Why not be happy that you can expand your horizons instead of being unhappy that you have to challenge yourself with a different type of academic curriculum ?
Of course one can complain about the costs if you want, since US universities are obviously failures, but why be unhappy that you get a chance to have a well rounded education ?
But steam is a real word, stem isn't.

What made the axe so superior to the sword or spear?
The ability of cutting down trees
>>2651352
>easier to make than a longsword or broadsword
>much less metal used
>small, handy and quick
>not as bulky (read: long) as a spear
>some applications as a tool
>round blade delivers the full power even at a glancing blow
lindy did a video on this.

It was not superior to either weapon, it just filled a different niche.
>>2651352
In what context? In general, though, it's good for getting through thick armour without getting stuck as easily as a pointed weapon.
How come during the American Civil War, the soldiers just reloaded after firing? Why not just charge with bayonets, or even just move towards the enemy instead of sitting with their thumbs up their asses reloading?
Because they had ammo and wanted to use it properly?
Because most of them liked the idea of being able to shoot a second time.

When people post "top 5 emperors" lists you always get the same few names: Augustus, Aurelius, Diocletian, Justinian, etc. However, the one thing in common with all of these people is that they had a terrible succession plan that fell apart after they died.
If guys like Augustus and Aurelius can still be considering two of the greatest emperors ever despite the fact that their succession plans were bad and everything got chaotic after they died. So, do you guys believe that an emperor's ability to transition his power to another should be taken into consideration when considering the "greatest" emperors?
Because if that's true, then guys like Trajan deserve the top spot for doing great things during his life AND getting Hadrian in there after him, who was also a great emperor.
I'm going to go out and say the Elagabalus does not deserve to be on the list of top 5 worst Emperors. The guy was just emotionally depraved and people like Constantine did political actions that had much more lasting effects that were bad for the empire as a whole.

>If guys like Augustus and Aurelius can still be considering two of the greatest emperors ever despite the fact that their succession plans were bad
Augustus had good succession plans but all his successors kept fucking dying.
>>2657187
the roman succession of emperors is really sad to read
the best monarchy in this regard is probably Denmark, a nice neat line of kings stretching back to mythic times
other european monarchies that had sallic law are up there too, especially France before they got revolution'd
say what you will about the germanic barbarians, but when it came to honor and respect and succession laws they had no rival, romans were pretty disappointing in this regard
New adaptation of the Iliad onto TV in the form of a miniseries, produced by the BBC, Netflix...
Except that it isn't.
>Troy: Fall of a City is an upcoming miniseries based on the Trojan War and the love affair between Paris and Helen
Can we just have one fucking adaptation of the actual Iliad? I would bet money that even on this board, most people are completely unaware that Homer did not write about the fall of Troy, Helen living in Sparta, Achilles's death, etc.
The whole point of the poem is the messages that Homer gives to the reader: the lack of glory in war, and the importance of being able to feel empathy, to name a few.
>Achilles is played by an African
Why virtue signal? Why not just have the whole cast be Mediterranean in appearance? There is a lost epic about Memnon of Aethiopia fighting with his army in the Trojan war, and even Homer makes reference to Abyssinians fighting in it.
Can't we just have one faithful adaptation of the Iliad?
Rant over
>Have the most irredeemable violent asshole in the whole book played by a Black person
Who wants to bet they'll relegate the gods too.
>>2657139
>lack of glory in war
Which if why we glorify Achilles to this day? He chose glory over a boring farm life.
>>2657173
Yeah, and he eventually dies.
When Odysseus meets Achilles in Hades, Odysseus asks Achilles what it feels like to be the most glorious among the dead, Achilles says he would rather be the lowest servant than first among the dead.
Achilles made the wrong choice.

Over here we paint boiled eggs red, and break them on Easter symbolizing rebirth
I don't really know on which board to post this question, but I'll do it here.
Recentlly, I've been watching more and more debates and figured out how little I know about world in general (history, philosphy, politics, religion, literature,..).
I'm currently 21 and said to myself to invest about 5 years into learning these topics in my free time and see where I'll end up. Is there any guide, or how would you recommend me to start out with learning and connecting all of the above related subjects?

>>2656417
It's really hard to choose the Sadducees, given how little of their beliefs have actually survived the ages.
Still, they were a smaller sect than the Pharisees even when the temple was around, and that was before they lost their main locus of support.
>>2656451
We know they didn't believe in the Resurrection and may have doubted the existence of angels. Their doctrine seems somewhat materialistic by comparison to others. They also were the pro-Roman and pro-Hellenistic side despite being the ruling caste (you'd think it'd be the opposite).
>>2656462
Why? They benefited the most from collaborating with the Romans.
