Who is your favorite emperor and why?

My personal favorite is Julian the philosopher/apostate depending on which side of the fence you are on. The last pagan emperor.

He saw Christianity taking hold and understood what it meant in the larger picture. He undid a lot of Constantine's work and forbid christians from dominating the education system.

He attempted to secure of freedom of worship as a principle and put himself at odds with the early church and its psycho authoritarians.

He saw the danger that organized monotheism brought with it and tried to turn the rising anti-intellectual tide. But alas it was too little too late and he diesdmfighting the Persians (according to the record) but I have my serious doubts about that.

My close second would be Marcus Aurelius.

What can I say? I get a chubby for philosopher kings.

Stoicism is the absolutely most redpilled state of mind.

Don't let your emotions control you.

When something terrible happens to you, understand it will pass. Look forward to the future.

When something amazing happens to you, understand it will be over very soon.

If it gets too bad, you can just kill yourself.

That's it.

Stoicism is how you should keep your state of mind.

You desire to LIVE "according to Nature"? Oh, you noble Stoics, what fraud of words! Imagine to yourselves a being like Nature, boundlessly extravagant, boundlessly indifferent, without purpose or consideration, without pity or justice, at once fruitful and barren and uncertain: imagine to yourselves INDIFFERENCE as a power--how COULD you live in accordance with such indifference? To live--is not that just endeavoring to be otherwise than this Nature? Is not living valuing, preferring, being unjust, being limited, endeavouring to be different? And granted that your imperative, "living according to Nature," means actually the same as "living according to life"--how could you do DIFFERENTLY? Why should you make a principle out of what you yourselves are, and must be? In reality, however, it is quite otherwise with you: while you pretend to read with rapture the canon of your law in Nature, you want something quite the contrary, you extraordinary stage-players and self-deluders! In your pride you wish to dictate your morals and ideals to Nature, to Nature herself, and to incorporate them therein; you insist that it shall be Nature "according to the Stoa," and would like everything to be made after your own image, as a vast, eternal glorification and generalism of Stoicism! With all your love for truth, you have forced yourselves so long, so persistently, and with such hypnotic rigidity to see Nature FALSELY, that is to say, Stoically, that you are no longer able to see it otherwise-- and to crown all, some unfathomable superciliousness gives you the Bedlamite hope that BECAUSE you are able to tyrannize over yourselves--Stoicism is self-tyranny--Nature will also allow herself to be tyrannized over: is not the Stoic a PART of Nature?

Helmut Khol was an opportunistic hawk, The collapse of Communism should not have meant the end of the DDR. Rather, it should have resulted in a reform and better relationship with the West that Egon Krenz should have enacted as soon as he had the chance, he took too many half measures and people rushed to their "Savior" the FRG. The reality is more was lost than gained with the loss of the DDR. Everything was rushed because of the archaic system and lack of opportunities in the DDR.

I'm not a native German so I don't expect to have local knowledge of the Ost or Die Wende. So please no memery, just discussion.

Keeping a good deal of well-equipped cavalry battalions must have been expensive.

assuming equal numbers, technically yes

however it's extremely expensive so we can only discuss this in theory.

Most of those in Parliament's army carried Bibles, and they were led by a devout Puritan member of Parliament named Oliver Cromwell. He was a good organizer and military commander. His army was aided by the strict discipline that was characteristic of the Calvinists, a discipline that helped in maintaining military formation in the heat of battle.

I don't see /his/ discuss Persia that much, despite how vast and powerful it was at multiple points in history. Who was the best Persian ruler? Which empire out of the Achaemenid, Parthian and Sassanid ones was the most important? Why was Persia perpetually warring with the Greeks and Romans?

>best Persian ruler
That's literally 1000 years worth of rulers, but almost universally it's considered to be Cyrus. He's to Persians what Alexander is to Greeks, although Persia would be at its greatest extent under Darius or Xerxes (I forget which).

>most important
In terms of legacy? Definitely the Achaemenids. The entire Greek model of empire (satrapies, etc.) was based on the Achaemenids. Also, first empire in the modern sense that would endure all the way to the British.

>Greeks and Romans
They shared a border. They were both great civilisations with imperial ambitions. And that border just happened to meet on the most fertile and rich parts of the planet.
>>
>>2636051
I'm unironically a Roma/Byzaboo despite being Iranian, so I don't mind.

There's just so little about the Persians before the Islamic period compared to the Greeks and Romans that I find it hard to get into it.

The Shahnameh is pretty sweet to read but it's hardly contemporary.

Nope. More died from arrowfire, but the number one killer was disease.

I would not be able to stand Napoleonic warfare. The guys on the line had the biggest balls to stand there and take and fire shots. I remember reading that guys would do snuff to calm their nerves, and brothers would be next to eachother and just see a shot blow their brains out. Crazy.
