What exactly were they trying to go with this new different route with Nuki Doki? It seems like such a failure so far. 4 episode so far, and the main character still haven't had actual sex yet. The episode is short and everything is so lackluster. Why did it go in such a different path? It's like a ecchi show where they blue balls you with the childhood friend the whole time.

Poro has been incredibly lazy lately. They've acquired a big audience thanks to previous works, and I think that now that they have guaranteed success with every release, they don't really bother. They've stopped drawing scenarios and just put blurred pictures instead, and/or making chibi characters, it has been happening for a while now. In this case, they avoid animating scenes as much as they can, and so most of them lack movement, have loops, or do the same animations for different characters (something that happens too obviously in the first episode of the new Nuki Doki)
Poro was a good studio, but now they're going downhill. I'm not saying it's over just yet, and the only thing we can hope for is a better release.

This is the original path.
The first two OVAs that came out years ago were anime-only material. I guess the series was so demanded they decided to animate the story of the actual VN instead of making up stuff.
