Why do the folders downloaded by exdownloader replace all apostrophes in a title with "'". The same thing occurs in Pandaviewer when it displays titles with apostrophes. So it's two different programs that do this.

It's pretty damn amazing how Happypanda has evolved. I've been here since the post on /g/ if anyone remember. I think the first version i tried was 0.15 or something. I got Happypanda because my old way sorting my doujin/manga wasn't as useful for my ever growing collection. So far I have found out 2 things.

1: I am super picky. I mean it isn't enough that I get metadata for all my stuff, but I have to edit all the titles and make sure I mark each one as completed or ongoing

2: I have a ton of stuff that not on sadpanda. It seems my save first and see if I like it later lifestyle has paid off. I have tons of stuff that is no longer on sadpanda a lot of it translated. The only bad part is that I have to fill in all the info myself and can't just look up the metadata.

I'm not sure if the database site still works since it hasn't been updated since 2013. They are basically your usename and password for the two e-hentai sites.
If someone had yours, they'd be able to login. Afaik, happypanda only need them to be able to fetch metadata from exhentai. If you're paranoid or w/e then don't put those two values. Happypanda will still be able to fetch metadata but only from g.e-hentai.

Ohh images collection. Hard to say since everyone has their own way of doing things. I personally, like to use tags over multiple folders because too many fetishes, series, ect. all clash with each other. With an image viewer with a thumbnail viewer that lets you tag your images(drag and drop also) while browsing, makes browsing and searching for images so much better. You can pretty much just stick all your shit in one folder and never have to worry about anything else other than the folder location and the whole tag metadata file with all your tag infomation so you can back up all your tagging information if you decide you want to move your stuff from one drive to another without worrying about losing or redoing anything. Tagging can be a bit tedious at first though, which is why its probably not for everyone. Its just what I do. I don't go full booru or pixiv in the details of my tags though, that's a bit too much. I just use my own personal simple tags/tagging system.


The problem though or, alteast the one I'm having, is that there are so many image viewers that are great in some areas but at the same time are complete shit in other areas. A lot of people will recommend Xnview/XnviewMP which is pretty damn good and has a shit ton of features but my problem with Xnview is that its slow as balls if you have a lot of images. It take me over an hour for it to load of 60k images. Picasa might also be a good viewer too if you don't mind it being own by google and aren't afraid of botnet, I've never used it myself. I still haven't been able to find a decent free image viewer with a thumbnail viewer that lets me tag shit with ease that's as fast as the Windows 7 Live Photo Gallery. It doesn't support many image types but it's pretty damn fast for what it does.

Any good H-Doujin Databases to keep track? Or is doujinshi.org the only good one around?

Since I noticed that some works are not in the exdb database, but are contained in the pururin database, I wrote something to create a similar SQLite databse file for the Pururin database.
The database itself is quite small, 1/10 the size of exDB, but it might be useful to get infos for translated works.

The works that aren't in the exdb is because it doesn't have the galleries that were purged, though those can be obtained using the api. That's what x-links does. Need to the gallery url for that, but that's in the other projects as well, though not fully filled out. Otherwise, it's on chaika as well. I don't think there's going to be anything on pururin that isn't elsewhere.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you want to add information in manually, just right click them and hit Edit. If it's skipping galleries, they're probably not on the panda. Although, I've seen mention of a bug with it rarely missing galleries it shouldn't.

If you've found a gallery that it shouldn't have missed, you can go hit Edit and add the exhentai link to the URL box, then hit the "Get metadata" button next to it.

I want to fully use Hydrus but I can't get rid of my bad habit of browsing/saving/naming individual image I like manually from sankaku/pixiv/danbooru. Please help convince me to abandon years of obsessive custom tag for series name and fetish.

Because fucking python and fucking PyQt. Qt uses plugins for image operations on many formats and during compilation of PyQt it only compiles against required plugins, ignoring the optional ones (like jpg). I have no idea how to include them in the compilation, but you can edit gallerydb.py's gen_thumbnail method to call an external command (like imagemagick's convert) to make a temporary png version, generate thumbnail from that and delete the temp png.
It's a terrible thing to do, but it works.

OK so the developer helped me out right away in gitter. When downloading files galleries with eze it was also producing a JSON file, and it was something with that causing my problems. Removed all those and all my galleries are added fine now. He said it's probably something to do with unicode characters in it or something, and that he'll probably fix it in an update.
He also said I should delete my DB and start again because it could be corrupted. Hope this helps you too!

You can't right-click and save the images though, they're not using a standard <img> tag but an HTML5 canvas. Also every page is broken into small pieces that are randomly placed so you can't even fish it out of your cache. Not sure how HorribleScans did their rip. Do PandaViewer or HappyPanda have a way to add multiple folders and have the content of the folders separate? I have a very organized doujin collection. So i don't want everything together in one list. In YACreader i can many libraries of folders and they are all separate with favorites for each folder. Maybe i missed something in HappyPanda, but it seems every folder i add just get added in one combined list.

irfanview can't gif for shit (and the developers intentionally made it worse last year), nor is it good at transparency. dump irfanview, it's very dated code/interface and frankly not that good. honeyview is flawless, but doesn't have any editing features. irfanview isn't worth keeping around for the convenience of not having to open paint.net once in a blue moon.

sxiv is best on linux.

for webm, use either firefox (greasemonkey script webm infinite loop), or mpv (configure for webm infinite loop).

hydrus network requires a time investment and also requires you to rethink how you handle your collection, but I think it's worth it.

A lot of people use Honyview. It's very good. Only thing keeping me from uninstalling irfanview is that Honyview can't do webm(yet). I think more people need to keep asking for webm support on their site.

if you want to be extra ghetto, you could just use mpv as your image viewer. mpv can be configured to behave differently per extension, so you can rig it as a sort of picture viewer that includes webm/mp4 support.

First, you'll need the lua script that automatically adds files in the same directory to mpv's "now playing" playlist (https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/blob/master/TOOLS/lua/autoload.lua). Then you need to edit the script to add .jpg, .png, .gif, .bmp, etc support.

Second, create the following mpv.conf:

The < and > keys navigate through the playlist. mpv can be configured to run commands via keyboard shortcuts, so you could rig the delete button to delete the current file, for example. I'm not going to go into that though.

Ideally though, you just use hydrus network for actual viewing and storage of your stuff, and honeyview/video-player-of-your-choosing-for-webm to view one-off files you haven't yet imported to hydrus. Hydrus supports picture and video formats, you can apply tags to both(!), it can be run over a network share, updates every week.

I was too late to the game to use honeyview3, but why do you hate 5? Sure, the default interface is bad, but after hiding all of the UI elements (including the Windows standard borders) and setting the titlebar to autohide, you're left with a nothin'-but-picture minimalist interface, which is timeless and universally good.
No other (Windows) image viewer is as speedy, light and responsive while also having perfect gif/transparency/etc support (as I mentioned, irfan often just cannot render gifs at the correct speed or even color, and the devs have no intention of fixing this for purist reasons***).
The feature set is a little on the leaner side, but it does everything an *image viewer* should- scope is important. Years and years of feature-creep is a big reason why irfanview sucks.

***If you aren't aware, irfanview used to have decent GIF support, but there were always some GIFs irfanview couldn't render right. Honeyview and any given internet browser don't have this problem, so it's obviously not an insurmountable issue.
But.... apparently frustrated with trying to get GIFs to work, last year the irfanview devs decided to support only the "official GIF standards" which a vast majority of GIFs do not adhere to, because many GIFs follow a different de-facto standard. They dropped all attempts at general GIF support, as a result, irfanview will fail to render many GIFs properly, and the devs will not fix this because in their minds, if the GIF doesn't work under the standard they chose, it's the GIF's fault.
This is why it's good to check in on the community of software you use from time to time- so you know when the developers have gone batshit insane, it's time to look elsewhere. This is the reason I left irfanview and eventually found honeyview.

But even so, it seems 5 is a slower, heavier 3 with a worse UI and support for some extra obscure image formats nobody uses anyway. So I'm trying to figure out HappyPanda. When I add a ex gallery for download, there is a "cost" listed under it in credits. Am I limited as to how many downloads I can make? How can I monitor my credits?

I am vaguely aware that g.e-h/ex has some sort of metagame rpg thing, but the only thing I've ever used the sites for was the galleries, so I'm a bit confused.

check their wiki, they explain it in a lot more detail. The site has 3 kinds of currencies. GP and credits are the ones you use to download galleries. You can get them by uploading your own galleries and getting hits, running the Hentai@Home client, or playing the shitty game.

There's ways around these costs. OP lists a script to download without paying, or you could try torrenting instead.
