What are some good & active design groups/forums on the internet for discussion amongst graphic designers or similar digital media people?
I know we are supposed to be all competitors and shit but I am eastern europoor anyway so I don't care to share my trade secrets to other westerners since they are far away from them, and in turn, I don't feel shame in adopting their advice either.
Pic semi related, recently tried photo manipulation thingy to explore into some of the styles I like in terms of design and try to recreate something with my own hands. You're welcome to critique it but it's not the main purpose of this thread.
I know it's a slow ass subboard compared to likes of /pol/ and /tv/ so I can reward at least one poster with doing a free photomanip request on photoshop (just don't ask too fancy, it's free after all) for effortposting.

Not true, I've been through art schools and done quite a bit of fine arts. Pic related, latest example, purely done in spare time for myself.

Is replies like these a standard quality for this board? I am OP and I've yet to find a dedicated reply to my question.
you won't find people knowing much about being "social" here sorry
you'll have better chances on some common place like facebook or (is it vik?) or maybe even reddit, besides of course networking with and meeting people in the real world
good luck to you either way op!

This is a very symbolic drawing; the depth is absent, and you've mangled most of the characters features. Both mouth and eyes look like they've been done by a child, attempting to draw from their memory.
You sure you've been through "art schools"? Did they mostly teach you confidence and not skill?

This is an attempt at photorealism. The ones I've drawn from life have no such problems. I agree I could've done better, but such harsh criticism is not warranted, makes you sound rather bitter and jealous.
About art school; I mostly learned technical skills there in regards to different aspects of graphical design, about the creative process, how to work with clients etc. there were not much fine arts classes there, which is a shame actually. The other art school where I interned at for 2 months has more fine arts classes, but at the time I was badly motivated and they reassigned me to more computer classes instead of fine arts.
I don't necessarily think I am THIS bad at fine arts either. I've seen art school students who do worse than me, and it's kind of a meme these days how many graphic designers cannot do fine arts at all. Pic related, here's a coal drawing from me, another one for comparison.

Thanks for advice, I usually avoid Reddit because I don't like their normie-ness, but it seems like a good option since these sites like FB and Reddit have enormous amounts of people and probably some decently large Graphic Design communities too. I'll check out some!

LOOMIS, VILPPU, HOGARTH, Norling_-_Perspective_Made_Easy.pdf
like most people if you don't have the magical talent to draw directly what you see (which you don't have), then you're supposed to CONSTRUCT the thing you' want to draw and model out the lighting same way you would construct the objects in linear perspective.
after many years of drawing you can get that skill to just draw directly without the help of simplified spatial objects.

Thanks for the PDF anon.

5 or so years ago there were a load of forums where you could meet people and join GOOD active design groups. Now forums have mainly died it's quite hard to get in and find groups online.

What a shame, I guess I was born too late for some things after all..

that shit is failed rainbow LOL

Different anon. You wasted your money going to the wrong "schools" if you weren't doing hundreds of studies like pic related, in addition to portraiture, figure drawing, linear perspective, and anatomy as some of the most basic fundamentals.

This is the result of proper coordinated training, and at an atelier at that with no expensive tuition. Understanding of line, edge, value, form, perspective, anatomy, and composition and style all evident. Entirely possible in 1 year.

I don't know where the cool forums are, but this is not one of them. I come here to steal fonts. If I'm commenting it's to critique, because honestly most 'designers' here are absolutely hopeless or novice.
