are those effects overkill? should I give volume to the letters too? am I stuck in 2010?

legibility is quite tough here, what will be the back drop? will the characters be negative on it? It'll be v hard to see. If they're white on a diff color backdrop it shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to bring some interest too it, maybe you could connect every two horizontal strokes, where they meet the figure?

So you'd have empty space between each pair of strokes, each pair of strokes is connected by the intersecting figure's lines.

However:
The icons do not have the same weight.
The sperm tail seems weird - i would make it pointy.
The text doesnt seem to line with the icons. - the "e" in reproductive.
I would also change the & - it is not lines and the size seems strange
