Why to designers spend thousands of dollars on Apple laptops and desktops to use the same programs that a $500 Windows pc can use just as effectively?
Human nature and the effects of conformity almost make me want a macbook or imac but then I remember there's literally no fucking difference from my PC in terms of software usability and it would just be a massive waste of money.
Can anyone here sell me an Apple computer?
No, they'll shill hard for the memebook but the best you'll get is vague shit like "WELL...WELL...ITS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD" whatever the fuck real meaning that has.
You can build a PC for half the price, one that you can upgrade and maintain yourself without having to ship it to some curly mustache knit beanie wearing fuck in Cupertino. Fuck, you could even build a hackintosh if you're the type that jizzes over iOS and still save hundreds because it didn't show up in a plain white box with a fruit on it.
there is no advantage, people do it out of tradition
for a brief period of time, Mac versions of Photoshop and Illustrator were much better than their Windows counterparts but today, whether it's a beefed up PC or a mid-range machine, it will always win even the maxed-out Mac Pro or a entry-level MacBook both in price and performance.
God dammit am I fucking sick of seeing this thread pop up every month.
>Can anyone here sell me an Apple computer?
No. Go fuck yourself. Nobody gives a shit what OS you run except for edgy 15 year olds
>average mac designer
yea I use a mac
>average PC designer
I USE A PC BECAUSE IM NOT A SHEEP, IM NOT A RETARDED MACFAG SHILLING HARD FOROVERPRICED CRAP TYHAT NOBODY NEED MT SUPERIOR GAMING LAPTOP CAN DO ANYTHING YOUR SHITTY SHMACBOOK PRO CAN DO BUT BETTER AND CHEAPER BECAUSE ITS NOT FAGGOTWARE MADE BY CRAPPLE FUCK YOU AND YOUR EFFECTS OF CONFORMITY YOUR COMPUTER SUCKS BALLS YOU'RE A FUCKING WASTE FAGGOT
Which one of those two do you want to be ?
>>308457
Like I said OP, they won't have any real Apple selling points. It comes down to identity for them, and they base their identity on the brand loyalty. It's why they buy memebooks in the first place.

>Putting yourself into that kids second category
I go to this board for the first time ever and the first thread I see is the exact same thing you see on /v/ all the time.
I got the new surface book last week, I can run huge photoshop files compared to my old shitty macbook, fuck that shit, even better specs at a cheaper price.
UI is fucking annoying though.

>Mac threads on /v/
This is why I don't bother with /v/. Literally 0 fucking sense at all.

Guys, I found the mac user.
I think he's still upset that he spent all that extra money for no reason.

Apple computers are nothing special compared to Windows PCs, and in fact I like them worse. Their phones are godly, but after trying Apple computers two separate times a couple of years apart, I'll never buy one again.
The "artists use Macs!" meme is bizarre. Photoshop just straight up runs worse on OS X than on Windows. Photoshop on my Macbook would constantly flicker whenever I would scroll or zoom, and I think there were a couple of other UI bugs on OS X that weren't present on Windows.
Just stick with Windows.
>>308496
It's all preference and what you're used to. My transition to mac was tricky. After 10 years on it I feel completely out of touch with windows. For all intents and purposes they're equal, but different. These flamewars are the dumbest things on the internet.
I'm using both, windows and mac. A macbook pro at work and a windows tower at home. In my opinion MacOS is way better for a steady workflow. In addition it's less likely that errors occur, the computer crashes, etc. I can bring it to conferences, meetings, etc. and I never have any problems with connecting it to beamers, etc. This is more problematic with windows laptops. Not only because of Windows itself but also because of the manufacturers of the laptops.
Just one hour ago my windows PC decided that it needs an update now and shut down the PC by itself. It's probably possible to deactivate this shit but people tend to be lazy in that case and therefore problems like this occur. And it took about 45 minutes to update before I could use my PC again. If that happens at work right before a client is coming.. oh well.
And of course: If you can't use a macbook and even are complaining about it, then many design companies would not even invite you to an interview. They won't buy an extra windows laptop for you special snowflake

>Not an argument
In the year 2017 of our Christ and Savior Lord Jesus Christ, Apple caters extremely to mass consumer markets. They don't hide it, and the only people who are upset are fags who bought PC laptops for college that shit their brains out every 3 months and spend weeks in RMA Limbo.
I BELIEVE in the 90s, Apple was supportive of CMYK printing? ??? Something actually relevant to a "Creative Field" and top it off with their not-shit-design desktop computers (which also became as close to an "all-in-one" unit as it could get, in a world of Gray plastic shitboxes, and it became the creative person's maymay.
I'm a video editor who uses PC now, but I can say that a lot of my clients who are older, or not post-production heavy favor Apple products because of the support and reliability, which blows chunks when exchanging certain Adobe Files. For Video, the Mac OS bottlenecks the ever living fuck out of renders, but for 90% of the other shit you use it for, it doesn't matter and the gamma makes photo editing lovely. Not to mention the stupid "suck you off" customer experience you get at an Apple Store. I just wanted my iPhone (Fuck Verizon), and I got a bunch of high fives instead. After 2011, all the desktop iMacs used mobile parts anyway, so if you want to buy a Mac, you should just buy the laptop to get the most bang for your lots of bucks. They're fast, clean, easy as fuck OS to organize and find files with and slim/light.
The question is, why does anyone who doesn't do renders pretend like they're amazingly intelligent for bragging about their cheap PC being able to open that thick InDesign File slightly faster than a Mac? You guys literally have no idea what suffering is, you just sound like a middle-class mom bragging about coupons and what a value you got on those men's dress shirts at JCPenny's!
If you really want to rustle someone's jimmies, talk about how the iPad Pro is innovating beyond Wacom and what an amazing tool for an illustrator it is.

i found the edgy 15 year old with a mac.

you're actually aware that mac is also a gaming plataform and not only for design?
its a fucking shitty plataform, but its still a plataform.
nobody in this thread has ever had sex

Downtime would be the first issue. The Macs through the years have worked consistently without the issues of viruses, file compatibility, and "industry standard" apps not causing issues. A lot of graphic designers aren't tech-savvy and a simple fix for some would require outsourcing for others. Second issue is lifetime. Macs appear to have a longer life compared to PCs and the resale value was always better. Personally, I've been modding my '09 Mac Pro with SSDs, upgraded processors and Nvidia GTX980 GPUs to compete with the latest Mac offerings.
If the Mac Pro doesn't go back to a modular format I will be building an ultimate hackintosh next year. I think I've maxed this thing out so the mobo will be the bottleneck if I were to upgrade again.
I work in MacOS and game in Win10 on the same box.
Why are you guys even writing walls of text.
It seriously comes down to this:
>Plugins
>Preference
>Comfort
Just take whatever. I have both a MacBook and a top range desktop. I prefer windows but sometimes it's just easier to throw open the MacBook and change some things.
>>308410
I made a hackintosh for Sketch. I'd assume most people have stories like mine.

>Why to designers spend thousands of dollars on Apple laptops and desktops to use the same programs that a $500 Windows pc can use just as effectively?
spend your money in whatever the fuck you want, let the other people spend their money in whatever the fuck they want, you are not the economy/tech messiah, get over it, it`s a waste of time.
if you had found that you can do good work with a PC do it.
I need a Mac to run sketch because the sketch devs are cucked by Apple.
>>308410
I need it for Glyphs,Robofont,Prepolator,Metrics Machine, etc which are all MAC exclusive software.
Also the eco system is a little more stable than Windows in my experience
I don't know
> why can an Adobe exec jew and steal and drag their ballsack on the faces of college students yet no one bats an eye?
While I don't know anything in the slightest about building a proper PC for design purposes, I can tell you that you can get a Mac and decent software without the need to shell out big bucks for the latest model, contrary to popular belief. What I would recommend is going on to ebay and purchasing a plastic Unibody MacBook with 4gbs of ram between the years 2009 and 2010 because it will be able to run the latest version of MacOS and you can get that computer configuration usually around $200 but if your good at monitoring auctions you can get one for as low as $130. And if your interested in getting Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for it theres a way to get those for relatively cheap as well; purchase a copy of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard for aroun 15$ on eBay, despite it being around 7 years old, it's can still use te internet pretty fine and it's the latest version of MacOS that runs Rosetta which is essentially a software that allows you to run older pre-Intel switch Mac applications such as The Adobe Creative Suite 2, but I digress. Once you have the disk you're going to want to partition the drive so that your max will run both the latest version and Snow Leopard. Then once you've installed Snow Leopard into the second partition you can then go to here: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html?promoid=19SCDRQK where if you're fast enough you should be able to pause the page mid load and you will have the links to all of the available Crearive Suite 2 programs for Mac at the bottom. From there, download them and install onto the Snow Leopard partition and now you have a Mac and Adobe software for only around $145-$215. And one last thing, while Creative Suite 2 is over 10 years old at this point, it's still a moderately robust suite of creative softwares that work just fine for creative work.

Can't tell if your autistic or have absolutely know idea how to use a Mac. I'm employed by a design agency, and I can assure you, you would never get employed unless you have at least solid understanding of the OSX environment, with terminal experience an non essential bonus.
>>308410
Only reason to get a Mac is if you do web development, and even then it's not a very good reason. That said I don't hate on Macs, I had a used Mac for a while I bought off cragislist for a bit. You should at least be able to use both Mac or Windows without sperging out, it's pretty basic computing skills.
>>308900
any student worth their salt should be pirating that shit
>>309215
i was given a macbook that i used for 2 years. i currently use Winders and a Ubantoo WM for web dev stuff.
if you're going into web and thinking about program suite
sketch and then brackets (annd then cheatsheet) are a real good combo
and they're not owned by ajewbe so you're not being starved for shekels long run
>adobe rose student subscriptions in aus by %280 because "exchange rates"

should mention, for mac
Sketch app

Use GNU/Linux
I hate it. My work forces me to use it, and changing the shortcuts in my head that I learned with Windows, that horrendous fucking mouse and idiotic OS. I hate Apple and I hate that I can't have a PC and instead a raise for the worth of that machine. But no, every couple of years they need to buy a new Mac, because it's supposed to be the standard. Fucking idiots.
Can juggle photoshop, indesign, and illustrator at once better than my PC which has better specs.
>>308410
Never go for mac , i had mac book pro used it for few months it sucked , now i got alienware laptop and works soo much better than mac.
>>308457
Implying Mac owners are calm and collected while they're actually either rich OR stupid enough to waste money because they like the look of it.
>>308470
well its completely correct, wording that way to make it sound dumb dosent really change that.
>>309814
>alienware
Opinion immediately invalid
lolz at work with my winders in a sea of mac cucks... Adobe files work seamlessly between mac and pc so long as you're using the same version and have the same fonts installed. I'm a visual artist and have no issues with PC and Illustrator/Photoshop.
