Hey /gd/ multimedia design student here.
What are the design ethics/rules you personally follow and believe in?
To stay as far away from "designer culture" as possible.
I love design more than anything, but I hate the entire culture.
>>301738
what aspects of it annoy you?
I make sure to talk more than I work.
Have fun. Bee happy.
When I do work, it's just empty trope, hence I put my face in it, not because I'm a narcissistic talentless hack, but because I can.
If I lose market, I'll just wave my dick around as a promo stunt.
Need I mention that I'm a radical liberal?
Who am I?
>>301741
Not him, but the pretentious adherence to """imperative""" "principles""". Everything does not need to conform to contemporary """princples""" in order for a design to be proficient. Guarantee I make more than most of those pretentious fucks in the design arena, and I am a pre-law econ major. Fucking idiots think what they are studying is so complexly esoteric. It is simple bullshit...
>>301752
I make $4k/month just doing part time bullshit for my own lil company whilst in school. I could potentially make $2k/month more, but I have to study.
>>301748
>radical liberal?
Is he ? Or is it just a poltard way of saying he's a leftie ?
>>301761
>implying there are any centrists (or right-wings) in NYC.
>implying there's such a thing as a 'moderate leftie'.

op here, i agree to you to a certain extend. I believe those principles are basics, and can be broken in thoughtful cool ways. How do i get to your level though?
>>301765
i agree with you* FUCK
>>301765
Im not on a better level than you, I just know how to bullshit. Ill draw a half circle, and write a 15 page creative brief explaining why it is the Goddliest circle for the client's brand. This is all bullshit. People respect complexification if simplicity, so thats what I give them.
>>301770
And they eat that shit up. And pay me $900 for working 4 hours drafting shit, and then complexifying its context.
>>301771
One of the first designs I did several years ago. Looks like some bullshit an Indian man would do. I made it in 2 hours, then spent 2 more writing a 9 page creative brief. We had the price set at $700, but charged $300 more just because I could due to their glorification of visual contextual reasoning. People are stupid. Obfuscation is immune to critique by stupid people.
>>301772
yeah the type looks kinda "fiverr", but the untrained eye would be easily swayed. How did you start out with such high paying clients?
>>301774
Well those aren't that high paying.
I bullshit my portfolio, made it appear I worked on high-end brands, and thus made myself artificially valuable which translated into truly valuable.
Mostly, it is how I present myself: a pretentious designer that takes his work seriously. I don't compromise on price, I don't bend to every will of the client unless they give me good reasoning (even though I don't give a shit, its all about branding myself as calculated).
>>301775
I am able to do this because I am not going to be a designer for much longer, so why bother being nice? All I need be is respectful and prudent, not nice nor compromising.
>>301764
oh so it is really just poltard garbage, thanks for the answer
>>301783
You're just proving my point.
>>301736
Get paid and get out. If a shitlord argues with your good idea, don't kill yourself making a case for it, just refuse to sign the finished product (they'll usually be delighted! because, of course, they're shitlords) and put what you really wanted in your portfolio instead.
