What's the best method to crop(lossless)/optimize pictures for social media? By preference as square proportions.

I like uploading paintings on normiebook but I want it to be the accurate size and proportion.

Any guide on this or tips?

I use Krita and gimp.

Photoshop is fine. There are also some dimensions you can look up if you want to make sure a certain part shows up in thumbnails/etc., but that really only matters if you're doing company branding and need to have text show up properly.

Also, Facebook's compression is complete ass and I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd even suggest only posting cropped versions on FB and directing people to your actual site/portfolio/whatever you use to see the full thing.
