have you heard of vim? according to their design you don't even need the arrows and most of the right side keys since they make you lose time (even a few seconds per day cuold turn to hours or days)

When I have to calculate something, or type numbers, I find the num pads to be more useful and confortable than the row at the top.

Numpad is some top tier productivity, when I'm typing numbers in anything but a sentence.
The only real hindrance is if you don't have the muscle memory to use it. It's really no different than using a calculator.
I like the arrow keys as well. Sometimes I don't want to scroll with a mouse, or just want to move the type cursor with precision. Or moving shit in illustrator / anything else. It helps get exact measurements because it's more predictable than dragging.
