oh cool i haven't seen that vid
that software is called max/msp/jitter by cycling74 (the band autechre released an album using only maxmsp a few years ago and there's this quote i read somewhere 'max is so powerful it can do anything you want'). i've been using it for years and it's pretty amazing but also expensive however there's also the free version called puredata/GEM by the same company but it doesn't look as pretty as max plus max has a plugin for ableton called max4life.
you can find books/pdf's easily
here's one i recommend
Demystifying Max/MSP -by Paul Schuette (free on the weeb)

another good software is TouchDesigner (for live music/VJ/generative art) or even Processing+framestein (free and it has a big community but it isn't VPL and you'll need some knowledge of programming)
and there's also a few others more experimental like nodebox (mac), quartz composer (mac), reacTivision, SuperCollider, structure synth, Context Free, VSXu, FLxER, FreeFrameSDK and Nato.0+55+3d

i think got carried away since i haven't meet anyone who likes or even knows about that stuff.
This is really cool.

Oh thank you! Ton of material here.I think I will go with puredata gem way. How different is than max ? And is there any online generative art community ?
Bampu
If you're not doing strictly interactive stuff you might want to look into Houdini as well. It's a 3D animation package with very strong procedural foundations. Sort of like C4D on steroids. The learning curve is pretty killer though...

i see, lol, blender looks like a good option too and my guess is that is easier than houdini
puredata looks like fun and I think I will go with that since I already know programming

Not often I come across people who have used MaxMSP/Processing before. I used to use them with Arduino sensors to build art installations, making visuals react to rising and setting of the sun and stuff like that.
